So i had an idea for a two handed ranger. Much more physical, no hiding.

1x armor
1x CM
1x ambush
1x perception
2x twohanded weapons
1x spells
1x harness

climb/swim as i can, same with AS/MIU.

Any thoughts? I'm thinking GoS. My plan is to use 608 for ambushing and make liberal use of ranger spells for set up.

You might as well go Paladin. Just sayin'.

Good build here, add 2x hiding :)

1x armor - stop at brig or chain
1x CM - good
1x ambush - stop at 40 ranks
1x perception - you only need this for maneuver defense late in the game
2x twohanded weapons - good
1x spells - good
1x harness - good

Add - 1x dodge and 1x PF and you're good to go.

climb/swim as i can, same with AS/MIU. - good

Stop at 40 ranks of ambush? You need 1x for pushdown.

^ He said no hiding.

He said he would be ambushing still, with 608. Get pushdown still for that?

I think it looks fun.

This does look like fun. I had my ranger open swinging a claid while using 610 and 616 til about level 40 and it was efficient but kinda boring. Never thought about skipping hiding training all together and using 608 without it but it sounds good on paper.

Nope, in the same way a wizard doesn't from fading from invisibility.
You need the ranks.

I find THW incredibly easy as a halfling.

30 armor
2x THW
1x CM
1x ambush
1x perception
2x s&h
1x PF
.99x (level - 1) HP
.5x (working to 1x) dodge
40 ranger/20 minor
30 climb
1x survival

Been gone for a very long time and my only death was dancing at the Thanatoph and falling off the ledge. Other than that - I don't get touched. I use a 4x katana and aim for the eyes or a claidh and aim for the neck/head. I run cman smastery, cast vine, while in cast rt I'm hidden, then I ambush as soon as the vine pulls them down. Pretty effective.

This was basically exactly my training plan (except I was 0x dodge and slowly added up to .5x).

Do I need the perception here?

Your preference. Not essential.

20 is enough to make most perception checks in the game. Anymore is for seeing stealthy people, noticing you're getting robbed, etc.

Can't believe I'm about to do this, but the people that have shown interest in my halfling ranger haven't finalized anything -- So he's about to become a 2 handed user as well.

Screw picking up arrows and definitely screw crossbows!

This'll be fun :D

##Update

Yayyy! Wasted a fixskills. Completely forgot to consult my stats before doing this. Aimed ambushing with a Maul in 7 seconds. T_T. Gonna just retire the character now

How could your agi/dex be that bad on a halfling?

Eesh sorry to hear that you're retiring him. I know how easy it is to bork your shit.

Aren't we supposed to be able to ambush with a claidh in 6 seconds?

I tanked my agl pretty good and it just seems to be a bitch when it comes to ambushing w/ a maul.

As a side note -- I really wish I would of went the weedmage route.. Even though I'm no where close to 635. XD

Drew

You can't weedmage until cap or very near it. What is your dex and agi bonus added together?

46, then it becomes 52? with my vest and leg greaves (dex enhancers)

I have a blast with my THW ranger. She has hunted well over her head since the beginning, she's 63 now. She's one of my favorites. Built like a warrior with ranger spells. It takes a lot of patience though and setting short term goals along with the long ones. If you still need help or ideas, PM and I'll send stat and skill info.

You need 1 more point of either dex or agi (with your enhancives) to get a second off roundtime.

Sorry I missed this when you originally replied.

I'm doing the THW ranger thing and having a lot of fun with it, but I'm kind of at a point where I can't decide what to do with my spells. I'm at 20 Ranger/7 Minor Spirit, but can't decide whether I should keep going up to 640, or switch and get 120, or what. Opinions?

Skrimp on dodge to get extra ranks of spells early. Try to get 640 and 120 by about level 45 then re-add dodge and get more armour.

I got 640 at 40, and then worked double time to get to 120 after that. Think I got 120 by about 50 or so, still working to catch up the ranger spells, I'm now 64. Getting close. But I've still been extremely efficient hunting, even with my spells being under level.
