View Full Version : Is LNET chat ....?

I saw an interesting argument about LNET chat and its effect on GS. I'm curious to see what other points of view there may be.

Do you feel LNET chat has positively or negatively affected GS? and why?

Sihaya

I've been very vocal about my experience and appreciation of Lnet both here and IG. Without Lnet, the game would have less interaction, and now with a smaller population, how can that be good? I wouldn't have played any version of GS the past couple of years if Lnet had not been available.

I was skinning long before lich and myklians aren't nerfed. Do some research before you try to troll and fail horribly.

I think LNET chat has some positive and some negative aspects.

Communication is essential to a game. However, I see negative parts of that communication affecting the game through OOC actions.

There was a time when IC actions were separate from OOC actions. Has that time passed forever?

You're still a nobody.

How are you somebody, or... better than him at all?

You are more well known, but well known to be a thief, liar and all around dumbass.

So does being well known as a a dirt bag in both prime and shattered, make you 'better' than someone that is well known in shattered for being a good guy, yet unknown in prime?

I have sat back and listened to you try to fake your way back into merchanting and am tired of it.

Inspire
06-01-2011, 06:11 PM
I probably should have stated this before, but I'm looking for points of view from Prime players and not Shattered players.

I don't believe Lnet has any negative affect on Shattered as there is no IC atmosphere.

You're not any part of merchanting so your opinion really doesn't matter.

The only person who could call me a thief doesn't really give a shit about what happened and we talk pretty frequently now.

I do not give a shit about several of you, who follow me around (It's cute, like a puppy.) but you keep raging on about something that happened nearly a year ago. I've moved on. You stay right where you're at because you seem to be happy there.

People see your trollbully harassment for what it is. QQing.

I'll continue to operate as an honest merchant in prime as I always have. You guys PLEASE continue to troll and give me the publicity I need to advertise my items to everyone in the game.

Prime is not Shattered. Some people are able to get over things and move on. If you're incapable of getting over what happened, you might seek therapy.

Oh, by the way... REMEMBER when you sent me $1500? And then several hundred dollars again and again... and again. Without a problem? I DO!

There's a big difference between coin and cash transactions.

I've done both, just because I show the items here in silvers doesn't mean they went for one form or another. I think it's easier to track the items value in silvers.

I've had a ton of transactions with a ton of people on the PC. (Without complaints.)

You can judge me for what happened in Shattered but I'm over it and don't really care.

To be somewhat on topic though, I love Lich. LNET however can be SUPER distracting to myself, and I find that I tend to act all half retarded and crazy on it, never shutting up etc.

I know it's as simple as untuning, but it's hard for me to do when it has ample entertainment value when I am doing boring shit.

But, I think I'm on the fence still. Lich itself is a godsend, but for me personally the whole lich chat etc stuff kinda ruins the fun in the game that was RP, meeting people etc..Even if we'd just use AIM back in those days, it still added a bit more and now not so much because of it.

Dear Inspire,

Your past transgressions have ruined your future here. Accept it and move on. Regardless of what you have to share, insightful or otherwise, you will be mocked and every thread you start will most likely ultimately turn out like this one. While I've never had a bad transaction with you, I still think it is you who are piloting this failwagon.

You have some nice stuff, and people will continue to trade with you I'm sure, but you are much better off laying low instead of drawing attention to yourself by posting polls or trying to troll Ross.

Dear Brute,

It's nice that you're not a trollbully. I don't care what the failwagon does, I'm still going to continue to post. They can continue to troll, but eventually people will see that a bully is nothing but a bully, and life will continue.

I actually like the spotlight, I move close to my items when it's shined my way and they sparkle in the light. Everyone knows you can't pass up a shiny object!

BTW. I tried the lay low route and even adopted a new posting name. (Even sold about 100m in gear with no problems.) It doesn't really matter with the failwagon. They are only here to bully and harass, so I may as well embrace it and have fun with it. Although I do hope one day the failwagon is able to act like they are older than 5 and I'm not in fact surrounded by a bunch of infants every time I log into GS.

This board may be called the Gemstone Player's Corner Forum, but there are topics for WoW and Other Games. I'm not saying they shouldn't post but they really have no relevance in regards to their opinion when it comes to anything gemstone related.

When they're trolling merchant threads it's pretty pathetic. Maybe less eThug when they're talking to their eFriends.

Another thing to point out is that 99% of the threads created are Gemstone related.

Kajmir
06-08-2011, 03:00 AM
I know it's been awhile and not to jump back on topic but I'd been meaning to post my feelings here because I care way too much about irrelevant things...

I dislike lnet chat, because it's almost solely OOC commentary intermingled with IC information - for example, "I died come save me at ####" ..orly? And how would my Character have garnered that information? Hypocritically, I "set showdeaths on" despite the fact that mystically "sensing" peoples deaths has never felt 100% kosher. I suppose it's easier for me to justify hearing a death cry of sorts than reading, via lnet, what traditionally might be an ooc whisper.

However, I choose to simply untune from lnet chat, and this solves the problem for me. I have no real need for lnet at all, tho I do enjoy the ease of tracking spells. I definitely have no desire to be a part of the OOC conversation, because I don't want my character to know characters as players, I want to know characters as characters. I feel lnet chat has the potential to severely impair the validity and magic of the roleplay environment, as well as hinder the development of inter-character relationships, and I'm certain that if I "tuned in," it would be impossible for me to immerse myself in the world of Elanthia and play the game in the way I feel it was intended (the way I like to play?). This game, for me, is a bit of an escape from reality, which lnet chat, like any ooc conversation, can easily bring crashing back down.
