Ok a paladin has sought to raise on two consecutive occasions and on both has suffered a spirit death. He has 8 spirit in total and on each occasion had all spirit points in tact.

What could be the potential cause? (I know nothing of Paladins and don't have any details of the paladin's training to hand alas. Just looking for potential issues that I can bat back at him for consideration.)

Any and all assistance greatfully received.

Insufficient training in Spiritual Mana Control. The % chance of failure is 100 - SMC bonus, so 24 ranks are needed to eliminate that possibility.

Ok just spoken to the paladin who says he has 24 SMC.

Could anything else be causing this? Is wearing armor during raising an issue? I know i'm not giving you much to work with but any other ideas?

Oh he also says that he was raising without a problem and then suddenly today and yesterday had two consecutive spirit deaths. He is at a loss to know why..

Is it possible that the people he is trying to resurrect have enhancives or something that give them 11 spirit? 8 won't be enough for him in that case.

This. WTF is a Paladin doing at level 40 with less than 10 spirit?

Ahhh ok. In that case his raising is going to be somewhat problematical. Thanks. will put that to him.

No idea what level he is but will put Bob's response to him in the hope this helps.

Thanks both.

I think there is also a bug in the Paladin raise somewhere that leads to spirit death if a helpful cleric chrisms the body beforehand. It basically strips an extra 2-3 spirit away from the raising paladin. At least that was the conclusion I came to a couple of months ago, but if this is happening without that circumstance then there just might be an actual bug in 1640 all by itself. Either way I've already stopped raising except in extreme emergencies months ago because of this. And yes, the official response to my inquiries on the officials was...*crickets chirping*.

It isn't as important for most paladins. Unless he was specifically created to be a raiser, not really a big issue.

What is their CS stat, Aura or Wisdom?

Questions in general: Would 9 spirit be enuff for a paladin to raise a player with 11 spirit?

Also: which stats effect spirit?

Thanks,

You will lose 75% of the dead characters maximum spirit points when you raise them with 1640. So just times their max spirit by .75 (round down), and that will tell you how much you will lose. For example:

11 x .75 = 8.25, or 8 after rounding down.

If you have 8 or less spirit, you will die. Twice. If you have 9 or more, you will live (unless your raising paladin is in the Council and forgot about those nasty spirit draining signs that are going to drop...right...about...now).

I've always felt paladins should get a full mind when raising. They are in no way a competition to clerics, well, maybe the NPC cleric. The small amount of EXP a paladin does get doesn't really make up for having to wait for spirit to go hunting again.
