Any Sword and Board rangers around anymore? If so whats a good standard these days. Still getting used to everything having been away for several years.

ok, if I drop my cman, and drop my summoning to 15 instead of 16, I can get to 1x ambush..

I don't think the standard has changed much. The new skills not withstanding, this is mostly what I've stuck with since back when...

1x armor till I have enough
1x shield
1x CM
2x edged
1x ambush
1x PF
1x dodging
1x HP
1x SMC to 24
1x survival/firstaid
2x S&H
1x perception
1x climbing/swimming
1x spells
leftovers go to MIU/AS and some lore

Ugotfaced: I would definitely up your perception to 2x and Ambush to 1x. These skills directly affect your ranged AS.

Your 35 ranks in armor is for chainmail? Might as well push to 40 ranks to take care of the maneuver hindrance.

Roelon: I feel Daerkstar more or less nailed it. Flavor training to your tastes based on your vision for your ranger. I like having a little MOC in the mix for an occasional multi-strike personally even if 90% of my swings are aimed.

My preferred path is:
1x armor til 27 ranks for brig
Use a buckler with no shield use
2x blunt
1x cman
2x stalk and hide
2x ambush
1x spells
1x harness power
1x - 20 ranks dodging, your mobility will make up the difference
20 ranks of MIU if you want to use haste imbeds and be badass
Spend the rest as you see fit on things like climbing, swimming, perception, etc.

Yeah, I ambush from hiding with a mace and a buckler. I have no DS problems whatsoever without shield use. I also keep 20 ranks of MIU and haste imbeds. That allows me to hide and ambush in 4 seconds with one swing kills 90% of the time at level 34.

Using Nilandia's link, you should train your Ranger to 30 ranks for Brig.

It is true that at 27 ranks you will train spell hindrance for brig to be it's lowest.

However.

At 30 ranks you will be fully trained for Brig and not suffer a maneuver penalty for being under trained.

Though, to get annoying technical, RT penalty =/= maneuver penalty.
