Advice is required please regarding training in the use of a longbow acquired at Droughtman. It's an e-bow (don't know if this makes a difference, such is my ignorance of these weapons.)
I know that I need ranged weapon training and that rapidfire will help.
Any other advice for this warrior? :help:

Warrior bow training = tough.
Ideal training for a bow is 2x ranged, 2x perception, 2x ambush. Obviously warriors are not ideal bow users but they can make it work. Ebows are great because you never have to deal with ammo which is by far the most annoying part about archery and why ebows and self ammo quivers are so expensive.
Firing time should be fine as a dwarf. With 2x perception you should be fine aiming for the eyes. Don't use it in water rooms! (I assume it's WD-style).

Ahhhh, I never thought of perception or ambush training, which will make training a little longer I guess. But then this game is a marathon, not a sprint. I have the time. Thanks.
I noticed another thread about archery a moment ago. Gonna' stroll over there to take a look-see.
Thanks mate

Why do you think Rapid Fire will help you at all? Do you mean Haste? Yes, Haste will help as much as it does with any sort of RT.

Rapid Fire is 515, which doesn't help at all with firing a bow.
Haste, which is 506, however will. Along with wizard's strength and a few other spells.
Granted, if you are using haste and have a decent strangth, that's all you really need to fire this thing.

Didn't engage brain
I meant the Cman multi-fire

mfire is beyond useless

Archery is good because you can aim, mfire is terrible because you fire the same number of unaimed shots as you could fire aimed shots in the same time span.

Taking all the advice on board.
Just went out to try the bow. Awesome! Bear in mind I have no ranged training so was sticking poor unsuspecting beetles and trolls with a fluctuating AS of 97 to 121. Wish I had time to do more experimenting.
You draw back the string on your thick ruic long bow and a straight ruic arrow shimmers into view.
You fire a straight ruic arrow at a jungle troll!
AS: +101 vs DS: +111 with AvD: +23 + d100 roll: +100 = +113
... and hit for 5 points of damage!
Attack bumps an eyebrow.
Oh! So close!
** As you hit, the edge of your ruic arrow seems to fold inward upon itself drawing everything it touches along with it! **
... 25 points of damage!
Eye swells under sudden pressure loss!
The arrow splinters into tiny slivers.
Roundtime: 3 sec.
Roundtime changed to 1 second.
Used haste, based upon the info provided publically and privately and it was great. Soooo tempted to use fixskills to shift some training to get fully ranged up, but am resisting.
Thanks for the info all. Appreciated. You have been awesome!
:thanx:
For a warrior I think the best way to use archery is to setup the creature with take downs and try to fire eye shots until you pop it. At least for an older warrior.

Sounds like I have a lot of experimenting to do. I think a suck it and see approach is in order, but i'd be a fool to ignore the advice i've been getting.
Realistically I have three months before I am fully trained in range so will see what happens.
Am proposing open fire. Not going stalking and hiding. Ambush is good too currently.
oooo am getting quite excited!

Well enough people are saying the same thing for me to discount going down this route.:)

Pretty sure it doesn't. Don't have any spare cman points to test it though, but it requires you remove two or more arrows from your bundle at once, and since ebows don't require ammunition the mechanic doesn't work.

With great haste, you let loose a volley of shots against a red-scaled thrak!
You draw back on your elemental bow and a bolt of lightning appears.
You fire a bolt of lightning at a red-scaled thrak!
AS: +236 vs DS: +232 with AvD: +14 + d100 roll: +40 = +58
A clean miss.
The bolt of lightning consumes itself in a fiery burst!

Tap to the arm pricks some interest but not much else.
** As your bolt of lightning hits a red-scaled thrak, it gives off an electric shock! **
... 5 points of damage!
Light shock to left arm. That stings!
The bolt of lightning consumes itself in a fiery burst!
Roundtime: 11 sec.

Huh, well that's cool. I was sure it didn't. Wonder if that's a new fix.

I could never get it to work with my ebow, it has uses depending on the creatures you hunt... Something you can't crit kill for example.

Update:
Well I can't complain about the effectiveness of the longbow...
Only 1/2 way through ranged training with 1x perception and ambush and it's only NOW functional for me with that level of training, within the temple and only after legging critters. And believe it or not I only just learned about the permablessed element reading info in another thread about another bow. (I am constantly amazed at how little I actually know!!!!!!!) Just need to guard against being disarmed in there now. Haha. Can't wait until I'm fully trained.
I'm hoping that 1x ambush will be sufficient. It certainly works for the claid head shots but arrows to eyes require more precision I expect. The cost of ambush training points above 101 don't justify the benefits - to my mind - for claid use, so I can't see myself going down this route for what is a tertiary method of attack. Hopefully head shots combined with the random effects will be more than sufficient.

Ready access to Surge = sweet for archers.
