How wrong is this...

Ok so.. first of all you have to remember that since third grade all 87 kids in my class have been together so basically we know everything about everyone.

There's this one girl who no one really likes.. her father died when we were in like fifth grade so ever since then (even before then) she's been a huge bitch to everyone. Basically in ninth grade she invnted a boy named Angel (I believe based off of the show Buffy). That was fine, she can do what she wants. If she feels the need to make up a boyfriend to feel good that is up to her.

Here's where my problem comes in. She made up another guy named Kevin and "introduced" him to my friend Danielle. "Kevin" sends Danielle e-mails, talks to her on AIM (he and nivin are never on at once) and tells her he loves her. She's basically a loser and latched on and believes she loves him.

So what was harmless is now basically going to be damaging. Nivin insists he's real even though she's never met him and the only one to ever talk to him on the phone is Nivin. When Danielle asks for the number, she says she can't remember it. Yet every day Nivin knows exactly what Kevin and Danielle talked about.

How messed up is that? it's one thing to let yourself believe a lie but now she's involving another person and potentially breaking her heart.

Basically! She's pretending that she's Kevin and allowing Danielle to believe it. I mean, Danielle is the ONLY one who does but still, that's enough.

No one EVER made fun of her because her father died. Everyone was nice to her and tried to be the best people they could to her. The fact is she was a bitch before that and when her father died she used it, and still uses it, as an excuse to be mean to everyone. You're right, Leloo..... everyone has a tragedy in their life at one time or another, that's not an excuse to just treat people however you want. Too bad there's not some way you can prove it to Danielle, but it's her bad if she doesn't want to listen to the voice of reason.

The story is entirely true. Trust me, I wish I had made it up. What's hard is that other than using logic and obvious observation, it's so hard to give evidence that he isn't real. And Danielle is so insecure that she wants some guy to love her. It's very weird but most guys run from Danielle, even on the internet they block her...

I don't know, sometimes people need to make mistakes in order to learn and grow. It is possible that this Kevin is a real person. Even if he is not real I am not so sure that it is your place, Leloo, to do anything about it.

Let your friend come to her own realization. In situations where I might have acted stupidly (rarely!) I might appreciate a friends concern certainly. Just make sure that if you do try to intervene in some way it is with the right intentions. Not because you can't stand Nivn, but because you are concerned for Danielle. That would mean being truthful with yourself about why you are upset about this situation.

Really though, how often do teen girls listen when others bad mouth their love interests? Real OR imaginary.

She probably knows, but you know what, she wants to have a boyfriend. Real or imaginary, it makes her feel good, that someone out there is there for her. That you don't believe it, or others for that matter doesn't matter to her. The urge to have something that others have is strong and its filling a need for her. I say let her have it.
