Question on Armor for Archery

I have a level 27 human ranger whose a sniper...Is it appropiate for him to fit into robes? Or was it a stupid mistake and shoulda moved down to leathers from brigandine yesterday?

Not a ranger expert, but if rangers can't train in armored stealth, robes loose a lot of their luster.
