Aside from breakage (heh), is there any mechanical difference between enchanted steel and magic metals for weapons and armor?

Now that wizard enchanted stuff can be blessed, I don't think there is. Weight maybe.

Some creatures can only be injured by magical metals

Yes, but steel is "magical" once it gets enchanted.

Correct. Certain metals will have a lower min weight than others. Based on modifiers.

Because the weight formula is truncated, any magical metal with a lower than normal weight will knock at least a pound off weapon weight. This can be pretty handy in a few extremely specific situations.

Unfortunately, I don't think it works like that. When lightening merchants determine the minimum weight of an item you give them, I think they look only at the item base, not the material modifier. For example, a standard suit of augmented chain weighs 26 lbs. Lighteners will only take it down to 13 lbs, whether it's made of steel or imflass (which would have started at 18 lbs). On the other hand, I think the same standard is held for heavier materials, so your 39 pound glaes chain can still be lightened to 13 lbs. At least, that's what I've experienced.

If that's true, then that is dumb. Good question for the officials.

Pretty much what Warriorbird said, the only real reason nowadays is style.

Some stuff is rare, you might just like one name over another, you might like one cause of where it came from (location it can be found), etc. etc.

It's the main reason I like my Vaalin full plate, I don't know of any other armor made from it, actually only thing I know of is lockpicks.... although I'm sure the treasure system spit something else out, just never heard about it.

Yea, I bought imflass full plate, enchanted it to 7x, and started lightening it expecting the minimum weight to be lower. It's the same as steel or vultite. Just the initial (non lightened) weight is different.

Which makes my +32 full plate a waste of a lot of time.
