I'm going to southeast Asia for two weeks in June and I need to figure out where to go. Thoughts from people who have been there? Also any suggestions for good websites to do research would be helpful.

I was thinking Thailand (Bangkok, Ko Samui), then Cambodia (Angkor Wat), then Vietnam (Hanoi or Saigon). Am I missing something awesome? We prob want to limit the number of destinations to 3-4 given the length of the trip so keep that in mind.

Thanks!

Singapore is the shit, just don't tell anyone you're American. It works easier for me because I'm brown, but who knows.

My cousin went to one of the more touristy beaches in Thailand for 9 days or so after graduating from UVA. She and her friends loved it. I'd stay away from Bangkok, myself. I'm not a big fan of venturing into anything I'd consider dangerous or tempting fate, though. Bangkok probably has an undeserved reputation or maybe an old rep. What about Hong Kong? I never hear that discussed as a place to go any more. Has it declined or is it still a destination? SE Asia is not on my radar typically. All I know about is that the Thai beaches are quite the place.

I've been to Hong Kong already. It's awesome, but I'd rather go to new places. Yeah I don't think we would stay in Bangkok for very long. Just to fly in, maybe stay a day or two, and then head to the beaches. I heard Ko Samui was awesome and Phuket overrated, but that's just from talking to one person.

My in-laws spent a fair bit of time in Thailand while India kicked them out for a few months, and really liked it. I'll try to find out exactly where they went.
