Also, it's really only set up to deal with melee. You'll note it will subtract your trunc(dex/4) from your raw damage as if you're swinging the weapon.

I don't care enough to fix it since I don't play anymore.

This doesn't completely explain the results. The javelin is listed as a polearm on the official docs and that designation has been carried over to Krakiipedia. However, javelins inspect as thrown weapons. The damage factor for this result is ~.310. Now we have a weapon with a DF of .310 and a 27 AvD. There is no weapon, of any base, that has values corresponding to this attack result.

I believe that adepts have full leather equivalent armor (AsG 6). With an AvD of 27 they would be in either (AsG 7 or AsG 9).

The javelin's listed AvD values on both the officials and KP are identical to a spear (polearm). It could be possible that the javelin when hurled has a different set of DFs and AvDs that we don't have listed anywhere. So, what I suspect is that when swung it acts as a spear and when hurled it acts as a javelin.

This is not too difficult to test.

Step 1: Attack a target with a closed fist
Step 2: Attack the same target with the javelin using the Attack verb
Step 3: Hurl the javelin at the same target
Step 4: Compare the AvDs for the javelin results.

Repeat with two different targets.

Since the closed fist has unique AvDs for each armor sub-group the exact AsG for the target can be verified. If the AvD is different for the javelin when using the Attack verb vs the Hurl verb then we will know that the javelin has two different weapon bases (similar to that of other thrown weapons). It will act as a javelin when thrown and as a spear when attacking.

It would be very helpful if you could do this and post the results.

That's pretty clear evidence that both the officials and KP have the javelin incorrectly classified as a polearm. It is a true thrown weapon that acts as a spear (polearm) when used in melee. A new damage factor and AvD table will need to be constructed for the javelin.

Closed fist AvD of -3 shows that Prisym is wearing augmented chain
Spear (one-handed) AvD vs augmented chain: 22 (this matches the known data)
Javelin (hurled) AvD vs augmented chain: 21 (this is a new result)

If you have the time and could get the AvDs for cloth, scale and plate by using the same method that would be great. First use the closed fist and then have the target with no armor and then wear any soft leather, any scale and any plate class armor we can complete the AvD portion of the table. We only need one result from each of the missing armor groups; the other AsGs can be backed out from those results. Accurate damage factors will require considerably more effort.

I'm having trouble with it. I ran the script and when I attacked something I got this message:

I tried creating a blank txt file called dataCritAnalysis.txt in that folder and then re-ran the script and attacked something and this time nothing happened. Nothing showed up on the game screen and the txt file I created was still blank.

Any ideas?

I see problems. A .254 DF satisfies all but the 457 endroll hit, but a .253 DF satisfies it but neither the 366 nor the 426 endroll hits. Also, those are both screwy numbers for DFs.

A 20 AvD could also indicate plate, but it would be very strange to have such close DFs for scale and plate, and they would still be screwy numbers.

It could be that kiramon have damage padding. Can you hit them with a well-defined weapon?

It could also be that you accidentally had that GoS sigil running that gives heavy damage weighting. This gives a possible DF range of .225 - .233.

Sorting the madrinol/chain set, I found one message (Lodge) with a definitive DF: .254. Glance would be at least .002 higher, .257 or .256. However, sorting the kiramon/scale set, Lodge again has a definitive DF: .253, and Glance could be at most only .001 higher, .254 through .252. This suggests that it is not the thrown messaging.

Also, it would be weird that Glance did more damage than Lodge anyway.

I was not using sigils at all through the boar test for sure. Potentially they were still on for kiramon.

Plate hits are inconsistent too, but this time the issue can be solved by going 4 digits: .1022 to .1029 get the job done.

Also, if heavy damage weighting is present, then the range of .087 to .080 work.

Plate hits are inconsistent too, but this time the issue can be solved by going 4 digits: .1022 to .1029 get the job done.

Also, if heavy damage weighting is present, then the range of .087 to .080 work.

I've always had inconsistencies when researching DFs where the same .xxx value will not satisfy two samples. So, this is not unique for the javelin.

No. It ONLY requires an endroll of 1150 for a rank 1 crit vs plate. With a 249 endroll the raw damage rounds down from 1.49 to 1 HP.

Yeah it doesn't bother me too much. I am not maxed on enhansives, and I think you are using a 10x weapon which is stringed so you can pump it up pretty good.

And for the area that I hunt most things are in the middle 200s low 300s defense.

Ok Danical here are the results of my testing on destroyers. Overall I still don't think the ambush strategy is as viable as the focused mstrike strategy. It worked about 40% of the time, which was consistent with my anecdotal experience. Furthermore my calculations indicate that they have a whopping 31-35 points of padding based on the below hits. At the bottom I included the raw results for each destroyer I killed. In some cases I wasn't very quick with the vanish so I took some unnecessary hits, but I still got beat up pretty bad. It's also worth noting that I only got two rank 8 crits the entire hunt, and no rank 9's.

I see in a lot of shots, you aim for the head and don't hit the location. It seems your accuracy isn't what I thought it would be at cap with a handaxe; this confuses me. Also, if you get a rank 3 on the head but don't kill, switch your next aim location to the neck, I realize you can't do this for your offhand . . . as such a number of your offhand attacks hit an area that isn't the head after your ranked out the head with your primary hand.

I'm no longer sure crit weighting via AMBUSHing is rank based. Someone want to pin down the formula during the new fixskills?!

The most crit padding I ever calculated for Destroyers was 11, I think at least, that's what I updated KP with. It could be that crit weighting from AMBUSH varies proportionally to the degree you pushdown the target -- I see you don't get the full pushdown every swing? I dunno, I'd have to examine the logs in depth before making any conclusions. I'll be back home sunday night.

I was also surprised at how often I missed, even on the first attack of a fresh destroyer (before ruining the head). Some of it was likely due to being injured. I was pretty beat up for most of the hunt. I wonder also if maybe due to their skills or their level advantage that affects aiming success. I certainly have better success aiming for, say, cerebralites, but even crawlers I probably only hit what I aim for maybe 80% of the time.

I don't really see a strong correlation between the endroll (a proxy for how much pushdown I'm getting) and the weighting. There were six hits for which the minimum net weighting was at least 20, and those endrolls were 339, 326, 257, 297, 255 and 394. That's an average of 311, compared to the overall average endroll of 318. On the other side there were two hits that implied a maximum net weighting of 32 or lower and those endrolls were 205 and 395. There isn't as much data on this end because most of the crits were rank 5 or higher, which makes it impossible to calculate a weighting cap (you could have 1 million points of weighting and still get a rank 5).

It's tough to pinpoint because of the randomization of crit ranks and the randomization of padding. Another thing to consider is the level difference may give them some additional padding. I remember I used to hunt capped bandits when I was level 70 or so and there was definitely some pseudo-padding applied to the hits. If you're curious to see more I can post logs of that but I'm leaving for Italy in about an hour so won't be able to do anything until I'm back in a week.

Aiming is quite level based, if I remember right. I also tried OHE ambushing destroyers in the test instance and found it to be rather ineffective. I tried with both an hcw dagger and a normal axe with an AS of around 565 and was pretty disappointed.

I should add that I was fully 2x ambush and hiding, etc.

Maybe it's just that level reduces crit weighting which would explain the reduction in pushdown theory. Show us the shots of like level non padded creatures and the bandits you spoke of when you get back. Interesting stuff.

Not sure what you are considering a theory here, the lack of push down vs level, or that you don't get the full effect of the phantom weighting if you don't get the push down or both. I know that the ambush push down is effected by level vs level, it wouldn't surprise me if the weighting was the same way. I am a bit curious as to how much the level difference effects it and if the effect is constant per difference in level or if like TWC the level difference effects it by a % chance.

I think the theory is both pushdown and weighting are separately impacted by level but they're only tied together inasmuch as lower average pushdown is going to generate lower average endrolls, which will compound the problem of lower weighting. In and of itself weighting only depends on endroll for a given level difference. It doesn't have anything to do with how much pushdown was achieved to get that endroll.

At least that is what I think, and I am basing it on the fact that when I was hunting bandits at lower level I wasn't ambushing (so no pushdown) and was still noticing the pseudo padding.

Realized I forgot about this after going on vacation but if I remember I'll try to pull the logs this weekend.

Also on pushdown it is a % chance. Against cerebralites I get full pushdown more than against destroyers, but it is variable for both. Sometimes I get full pushdown on destroyers but none on cerebralites.

Are you sure its a percent chance of full pushdown rather than a factor of the level range variability? Do you see different levels of pushdown for different attacks on the same creature?

Most definately. I ambush with two weapons and will commonly see different pushdowns for the weapons against crawlers. Without making contact, I've seen the second swing have a better chance plenty of times. Less often, but it still happens, my second swing with face a higher DS.

Absolutely. Exactly what Rhovan said. And it's not binary full pushdown or not. It's some kind of sliding scale.
