View Full Version : Interest in an Aelotoi MHO?

For those of you who don't read the Officials, or might not look into the Aelotoi board.. I'm pondering the idea of starting an Aelotoi MHO. It won't be anything really ambitious, just a group for Aelotoi to socialize with each other and do some educational bits about Aelotoi customs and culture and history. It would most likely be Landing based, because that's where Traiva lives, but events would travel around Elanthia.

But...just because I'M thinking this is a great idea, it doesn't mean anyone else really cares. Sooooo... Do people think this would be a good thing?

As mentioned on the officials, I wish you the best. I can't really offer to help out, but it might be useful to try to come up with specifics as to what you would do in terms of events. Perhaps even hold an initial event just to gauge interest.

I think it'd be fun if it was done right.

I'll bring out my Aelotoi if I am still playing.

The "gauging interest" part is what's happening here, before I invest some of my limited time and energy even on an event. The way I see it, the people who are reading forums are the ones who are most committed, one way or another, to GS, so seeing the responses I get here let me know if it's worth it to try to grab the others.

A few weeks ago, someone mentioned in IM that there should be an Aelotoi MHO. I told that person that if they felt that way, they should start it up, and was told, "Oh no, I'm not the person to do that!" For better or worse, though, the idea's stuck with me to the point where I now want to see if there are others who think this could be a good thing in general; until I started looking at these replies, I had no clue whatsoever what people's thoughts were on such a group and if it was needed or wanted.

I have roughly outlined the sorts of events this group would sponsor. I'm not going to go into full-on event planning mode right now, because that's a waste of my time if this group is never formed. If I see enough interest between the 2 forums to hold an in-game "informational meeting", and there's enough interest in that AND enough people besides me willing to put forth the work needed to run events, then the vague event ideas will see more cohesive forms, and we may actually get somewhere. But I cannot run a group on my own right now, and I'm willing to put the idea on hold until a time when I can do just that or when others step up to do the work needed.

(I haven't had time to check the Officials, so I don't know how much interest has been expressed there.)

PM me or post here with your exact thoughts on what "done right" means? We may well be on the same track with that, or you can give me some good ideas. (I'm certainly not doing it half-assed, that's for sure!)

I used to think this, but my experience as a CHE officer is actually that many of our most active members in-game don't read either set of message boards frequently--or at all. I still find it puzzling.

Tracking people down in game is definitely a pain, but sometimes it's the only way to go.

It shouldn't be seen as a waste of time to have a social gathering of Aelotoi even if nothing comes of it. The idea is who is committed enough to come and roleplay, rather than just say, "Yeah, that sounds like fun." As stated, there is a big difference between the two.

As a player who has attended many functions by various groups I would say go for it. These player built social events are very entertaining.

Having been involved with starting one before my advice is: Have more fun with it than agonizing over the details. Just plan fun social gatherings at everyone's leisure and build from there.

As someone else said, a lot of people don't read the officials or the PC, but are very active in game. It's definitely worth running a little informational event regardless of the turnout on the boards. Just be sure that you advertise heavily both in game and out.

Also keep in mind that a fun group will inspire people to drudge up forgotten characters and roll up new ones, specifically for the purpose of that group.

I think that sounds interesting, actually! I would be game for it.

There hasn't been much of a chance for me to explore the whole Aeletoi thing, although recently that seems to have improved.

I will help with whatever I can, should you choose to pursue this idea!

I'm down. My little aelotoi would enjoy the interaction with more of her race.

Obviously, there was enough interest, and the meeting was begun before all the invasion fun started. (And since Wayside Inn didn't go crashing to the ground around us and no one seemed to want to run off to help, it continued.)

PENDING APPROVAL, the new MHO Yllyc Simisiri, The Windborne is now formed with the dual purpose:
1) Provide education on Aelotoi history, culture and customs
2) Provide a group for Aelotoi to socialize

For the time being, membership will be restricted to Aelotoi only; anyone of any race, however, will be welcomed at events (unless otherwise noted in the event details). Once we're official, I'll post details on how people can join.

Once the application has been approved, we'll be holding our first event, hopefully in mid-June. I'll post the details of what, when and where as soon as we're official.

Thanks to everyone for their support!
