I am level 17 and channeling 302 with 2 open hands in offensive. These are the results I am seeing consistently during hunts. Keep in mind that channeling gives a hidden +20 to the end warding roll and that is x2 with both hands open so +40. I hunt with full wizard spell ups.

The Ogre swings at me are when he catches me in offensive to give you an idea of DS. DS is around 270 in guarded. This was the log from a single hunt.

A triad of ebony orbs conjoined by crackling ribbons of violet energy suddenly appear out of nowhere. The pulsating orbs take up a position directly in front of the large ogre, and slowly begin to move apart, stopping when they form a triangular shape of equal height to the creature. Encasing the ogre within this framework, the triangle begins to rotate with tremendous speed, binding the ogre with a cocoon of energy ribbons. A blur of violet and black obscures a large ogre from view and as mysteriously as the orbs appeared, they fade away.
All that remains of the ogre is a charred ashen figure of its former self lying upon the ground.

If you think that's good, wait till you're doing the same thing with 317 to everything you see.

When I manage the full spellup, I'll pull that in the aqueducts and one-shot about 3/4 of my targets.

Is that good? It seems like it is to me. I know from asking around there aren't many builds out there that use 2 open hands and offensive channeling, so I just wanted to post the results I have got so far. I have heard great things about 317, just figured I probably wouldn't get to hunt with it for a long time.

Tell you the truth, I'm not really sure. I'm definitely hitting harder on corporeal undead with smite on the same endrolls, but I've also got almost 70 levels on you and >50 ranks of religion lore. I'd say you're doing pretty well, though I'd be expecting more higher rank crits. On the other hand, I've heard that smite is a bit more powerful on undead than bane is on living, as a way of balancing its narrower scope.

I'd say grab some religion lore if you don't have it and see how it changes.

Then my suggestion would be to forego one spell rank on your next level and spend the points on religion lore, and see how you like it. I can't say for sure but I'd bet money that the extra damage from the lores will outweigh the relatively small amount of CS you'd lose, especially if you have no lore currently. It's up to you, though - I'm no expert on lore interaction with smite beyond what's on Krakiipedia anymore.

I originally started off as an OHB+board user, thinking the old D&D-style clerics, then switched to open hand+shield in the mid 30s and stuck with that ever since. The shield saves my life with monstrous DS.

Recently, for the hell of it, I wore the shield and did dual open-hand... and a supplicant made me his bitch. It wasn't pretty.

But I digress, what's your DS like with dual open hands?

Pretty low. It's not really feasable without outside spells as a hunting method. It's nice for finishing off incapacitated critters, especially along with some voln fu if you need to conserve mana. I do know that with a wizard spellup, my open handed DS hovers around 400 depending on environmental conditions.

This is with 6x armor, level 84, with 43 ranks in MnS and MjS

Don't know what DS would be like self spelled. My wizard is my main, so I always have a full wizard spellup. Also I only have 9 ranks in MjS and 10 in MnS since I am only level 19. Tough to say what it would look like later on. I will keep experimenting with it, and if it no longer becomes feasible I will use my fixskill.

And I wasn't picking and choosing shots, that was like 10 smites in a row, some living some undead. The constructs can't be death critted but you can see the crit was hefty on them still.

So it's obvious that going into the field with this sort of setup, you really NEED 3rd party spells. The question then becomes- if you DON'T have access to "external" help, is the loss of defense worth the added, heavy offense?

A good stun before something can hit you will help a lot to add to your 'defense'. I suppose it would be quite fun to be able to be hit, but rely on your offense to save you!

Oh hell, I don't open hand channel in OTF proper, that's suicide.

I'd say it's a fun build for lower levels, or if you're high level and you've trained to 100/100/100 spells, as it's the best for DS and not for CS. Open handed channeling can give you that extra phantom endroll you're missing from having +60 cleric spells worth of extra CS.

I'll stick with +60 cleric spells though...

CHANNEL is an interesting design but 3 hard RT is pretty brutal in RT-stacking environments.
