set all your skills to where you want them BEFORE drinking a fixstat, and if you have a fixskills, USE IT BEFORE drinking fixstat

After drinking fixstat you will be awarded 1 fixskills UNLESS YOU ALREADY HAVE IT (BTW this warning comes up the first time you attempt to drink a fixstat so i don't know why i'm posting here ;)
