Really sorry if this is somewhere else since I feel like its been asked before, but I looked and couldn't find it.

My dwarf rogue feels like a pansy in a dress (read robes) and would like to not look so pansy-ish while maintaining the mechanical advantages of his robes. I found a very nice surcoat armor concealer, but unfortunately it only conceals leather and up.

So, could you creative folks point me to or tell me what are valid nouns for robes? I'm hoping since they are Torso coverage only that I might have a chance to get them changed into a shirt or coat of some kind.

Thanks much in advance.

I'm in a similar situation as yourself, but I intend on seeing if they will alter mine into a Tunic, being Tehir and the like.

I don't really see why they wouldn't with me, seems I've had good luck with merchants making things into what I ask them to do..

But Tunic could be one noun that would possibly work

The merchants in plat last year told me so many times they wouldn't let me change it from anything but 'robes.' Maybe you can get someone to change them that doesn't know? I think the policy sucks--I took them off a lot so that my dhe'nar Rogue wasn't always shuffling around in 'robes.'

Bah, not really what I was hoping to hear. Any chance they made armor concealers that covered robes too?

Yes, I believe they do.

If you're not partial to your specific robes, there is robe class armor off-the-shelf with other nouns. My personal choice is the white linen shirt in Ouslanders of Solhaven (because it is max lightened right from the store).

I think there were a few others available in different towns if you check Nilandia's records.

Merchants have been willing to change the description to a "<whatever> shirt", but I did get rejected for trying to turn it into a saephua. YMMV.

Thanks for the reply Jymamon. Unfortunately (actually, probably fortunately) my robes are pretty stellar, so I'll have to alter them rather than buying them. It sounds like I might get lucky, a shirt would be just fine.

Buy the shirt, take it with you to the next alterer with your robes. IT has worked for me when the GM was a little unsure of the alter.

Considering the nature of a saephua, I'm not surprised.

I can't imagine why shirt, tunic, even ruana wouldn't work for robes. In fact, a ruana looks like it'd be a great option.

Example when I Googled ruana images (it's a guy!):

I think a couple other robe options are soutane and cassock too.

Seen both in game and off the shelf.

Yes I have a soutane robe.

you can alter a robe into a tunic.. then you can (sometimes) get that tunic altered into a shirt.. my armor concealer is arms, legs, torso and is a shirt. I did the same thing once in reverse with a reverable item.. pin worn reversable bodice.. altered it into a tunic and then into a robe, but they wouldn't do bodice to robe.

As dorky as it sounds, check thesaurus.com and input robes. Sometimes the GM's are flexible in that regard, although this may not suit your character I was able to have my robes changed into a habit as they are the same thing in practice but not in name.

A Rugged Military-Style Habit from some robes bought at dari's clothier.

May be worth taking a look, hope this helps some
