I am having a hard time picking my last CMAN being an archer. I also have a hard time spending 30 CMAN points for 10AS with specialization. Does anyone have coup de grace rank 5? If so, how do you like to it? Seems like I can get 10-40 AS with the same amount of cman points as specialization.
Thoughts an explantions would be greatly appreciated.

I think coup de grace with a bow results in you stabbing them with your arrow, or killing them bare handed if your right hand is free.

Ya, I use a crossbow, so I'd do the hands free kill, but I am looking to find out how many people use this skill, how long is the AS bonus, that kinda stuff.

I use it on my TWC rogue, not really for anything more than the OOOHH. The AS bonus lasts about as long as surge.

The AS bonus lasts 1 minute and varies depending on success level when you pull off the coup. It's also an open ended roll, so you can get some pretty big bonuses. The least you'll get is +10. I use it a lot where I'm hunting a mix of critters and one is easier and the others harder... coup the easy ones and use the bonus on the harder ones.

I've gotten a +30 before. It was nice.

Nice, I'll give it a go and see if I like it better than specialization.
On a side note, I am sure the Oooo factor will be nice as well when you see some Grims getting their necks snaped open handed. (raise fist)

A lot of people drop the S sound at the end but that's an example of hypercorrection.
Also has an effect that drops the AS of other critters in the room.
..Cos they're like.. damnnn..

I have coup up to rank 5. The AS bonus is calculated as (endroll - 100) / 3, with a floor of +10 and a ceiling of +40. One other aspect in addition to those already mentioned if that if you refresh the coup with another one before the first one expires, you get the greater of the two bonus. This chain continues until the coup runs out. So for example if you coup with endroll 160 you'll get +20, then 110 you'll still be at +20, then 190 you'll be at +30, then 101 you'll still be at +30 etc. It's worth it primarily for the sexiness factor, but there are a few places where it's situationally useful. Here are the places I've found it to be mechanically beneficial.
1) Bandits. Probably the best use of coup, since they're easy to stun, don't shake stuns and they come in waves, so you can frequently run the coup train on them.
2) Cerebralites. It bypasses their cloak of shadows, which is nice since you only need to take them down to 50% of their health to do it. Otherwise their cloak can be a pain.
3) Grimswarm in large groups. If you're in a big group there will be many opportunities to coup, and the AS bonus will benefit everyone in your group. Grimswarm solo I would say it's not very useful. Since they shake stuns, a lot of times you'll attempt to pull it off right after they shake a stun, resulting in an 8 second RT and you getting raped.
4) Fetish masters. A nice way of bypassing their ridonkeylips DS if you're hunting with an empath or other caster who can stun them and get them below the HP threshold.
Also you may want to consider sucker punch. It's a 3 second maneuver that stuns the critter, therefore making it susceptible to coup. Of course you still have to get it below 50% health. I had it for a while but then dropped it because now I only really use coup when the opportunity presents itself; I don't actively try to set stuff up for it.
Finally couping runners in Droughtman's maze is a lot of fun.

It adds bonus AS to group as well no?

Yes. See Shize's post above for a very good summary. I also use it on cerebralites, (they are the lesser critters mixed with tougher critters that I spoke of). I'll coup a cerebralite in the scatter and then use the bonus on everything else.
Bandits are great as well, especially if you're in a group of 3 or so... just slow enough for something to still be alive to coup, and a nice benefit for the lot of you. If you're doing bandits by yourself, I find that sometimes it runs out before I find the next group of bandits, so the value is less.

Thank you for the time, I will mess around with it and give it a run.
Dammit missed that in Shize's post. My apologies.
P.S

This manuever is also really awesome for grounds with a gimped creature you can learn from...
For example, in sand devils you can coup the wasps, get an easy +40 AS which basically makes it so you can one-shot the sand devils before they generates storms even when they are spell tanked, as a rogue.
There are several other hunting grounds where you can use this strategy, but i'll let you find them for fun!

That was pretty nice last night in the big grim hunting group. I was pushing 500 AS which is pretty sexy in pre-cap ranger land, especially since I wasn't using my 425 item.

Grah is close to the pronounciation of fat.

Coo de grah. Anyone who says gras is a rube and a charlatan.
.
The French pronunciation of the phrase is /ku də ɡʁɑs/, but many English speakers pronounce it /ˌkuː deɪ ˈɡɹɑː/, which sounds in French like "coup de gras" and would mean something like "blow of fat." Omitting the final 's' is an example of a hyperforeignism.
