As the bolt strikes at a scratched steel strongbox, a brilliant blue light surrounds it and deflects the bolt towards you!

... 30 points of damage!
Horrifying jolt to forehead. Brain explodes in a stunning display of light!

Can you cast this spell at a box then leave the room?

I don't know, but that was pretty funny.

Love you Jolena!

Yes you can cast at an item and leave the room. The only problem is if someone happens to run in while your gone, pick up the box and get themselves killed or simply flees with the box.

Why did it deflect and hit you? Unless maybe you were holding it? If that's true, then it's hilarious.

Maybe it was already open, not sure if that would make it deflect, but if it were closed/locked it should have just opened/blown up.

Also, in GS4, casting 125 at an item and then having a spirit servant pick it up is not a good idea. It won't hit the servant, but it will deflect and hit someone.

Familiars, however, can still be hit (if they pick up an item that has had 125 cast at it)

Boxes with glyph traps will deflect back to the caster upon casting 125 at it and that even if it's on the ground.

I was told Incinerators will also set off this trap. I was ALSO told that leaving the room will cause the cloud to dissipate. Anyone care to set these statements straight?

Dighn currently resides in Pinefar. No one disturbs him, and no one will touch his boxes.

Edited for Dissipate, not dissapate

Incenerators do not deflect. Only glyph traps or fused boxes will deflect.

Mithril and enruned might also reflect back, since they're resistant to magic. 125 does not set off traps, but I'd still do them outside of town, to prevent killing someone in case it does reflect and hit them.

Leaving the room will NOT cause 125 to dissipate. I usually use 125 with my cleric and keep a familiar in room to watch the boxes get toasted before walking back in.

I believe before some of the cloud adjustments, and when they still existed stun cloud and death cloud might have dissipated. That is where the confusion may be.

There are also times where it will just vaporize the box into nothingness. Which I was informed meant that the box had had some sort of trap on it.

125 will reflect against enruned, mithril glyphed and possibly fused (never tested it). It will not set off any traps, and on occasion the box will blow up leaving nothing. Leaving the room is just fine, most people are't stupid enough to pick up a box with a cloud cast at it anyway.

Syb has blown up many boxes from OTF

I've heard half, but that may be off

And I'm almost positive about the mithril and enruned also deflecting. Not 100%, but about 99%. Anyone know this for certain one way or the other?

I've cast 125 at many enruned & mithril boxes by accident, it just strikes the box and says something to the effect of "it's quite charred". The box will still be in tact and the storm will dissipate without hurting anyone.l

Hmm.. I coulda sworn mithril and enruned reflected.. Spose I could always test it out.. though i don't much feel like dying

Maybe if it is both enruned/mithril and glyph trapped.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that nice vaporization effect. Those are probably on incinerators or something equally nasty.

In my box blasting experience, i think i've only had one or two vaporize into nothing.

Enruned, Mithril, and glyphed boxes have been the only things that deflected at me. Also, I remember being told you only get half silver from melting it all together....bring on Silver to Gold!

I would say one out of every three boxes I cast the spell at are vaporized.

You can see a small crystal imbedded in the locking mechanism.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

Call lightning vaporized the whole thing. So whatever that trap is (I guess Maj Elem Wave) makes the box go poof. I will keep looking and adding to the list of what vaps boxes with 125.

This is odd Syb, cause last time I tested 125 it did dissipate when I walked off. I cast it at the box, walked off, and right back immediately, and no cloud was there, and I was alone in a very remote area (the bog near Illistim) where I've blown up plenty of boxes. Just my two cents on the matter, but I'm certain that happened because it suprised me and I took note.

It doesn't dissipate if you hide or go invisible, or if someone else is in the room (not sure if that last one is 100% though).
