About a week ago, my heart stopped while I was sleeping. Had my roommate not come and checked in on me, I'd be kickin' it with worms and such (According to the EMTs I was dead for about fourty minutes. I'm lucky to be sitting here typing instead of having people argue about whether or not to pull my feeding tube.) I guess something kept me alive but I digress. After some testing I guess I have a faulty heart valve or some shit, I was focused more on the 'holy shit' factor.
Anyways, being 21 and getting some heart surgery is pretty nerve racking and I'm going at the end of the month for the surgery.
Wish my death escaping ass some luck. Or pray for me. I guess.

Sorry to hear that. How did your brain survive for 40 minutes without oxygen?
Hey, good luck man, take it easy.

Thank you.
No idea how my brain survived forty minutes without oxygen. Like I said, lucky to be here instead of sitting in a hospital drooling.

Good luck with your surgery.
BTW, what prompted your roommate to check on you?

Always has, she's paranoid. Which resulted in her saving my ass.

I think the EMTs may have been overstating how long you were "dead". It is possible they were working on you that long. But, in any case, I am glad you're breathing now and not kickin' it with the worms and shit.
Good luck with the surgery.

I wish you the best of luck and I hope that your surgery is successful and prompt!
I'm very glad that you have a paranoid roommate! Best of luck dear, if you need anything I'm around!

Possible but the window for brain damage isn't very slim, is it? Either way, glad I can continue to do what I do, be me.

I'm lucky she's not sleeping at the foot of my bed, although I wouldn't object to the company. ANYWAYS, thank you.

The window for brain damage is about 5 minutes. Longer if you're immersed in freezing cold water.

Oh wow, happy thoughts sent your way! Glad your roommate is good enough to check on you.

That might be a record-breaker for full arrest. Valve, or all four chambers? That is some crazy shit and I don't have to tell you that.
Yeah. Just do everything and anything concerning treatment, as I also don't have to tell you. But hope and luck dude.

Basically what happened was my heart stop beating and when it was started back up, a valve wasn't working properly and they're going to replace it while having a 'closer' (as my doctor unnervingly put it) view.
Personally, I wish I had better genes. Heart surgery at 21 and I'm a normal, healthy guy. I don't drink and I rarely smoke (once every year?) so this comes as a giant sucker punch.
Here I was waiting for cancer.

I will send you my best wishes. You'll make it through this, just keep that mind set. Your roommate is freaking bawlin. Sometimes you can be the healthiest person in the world and still get sick. Now if only Dr. House was real... Regardless, just put your mind at ease for a bit, and TRY not to think about the surgery. From what it sounds like, you shouldn't be putting that kind of stress on your heart anyhow.
Best of wishes, hun. :)

Best of luck and good health. The technology with heart valves these days is pretty amazing and reliable. Anyway, I am now too terrified to go to sleep by myself, so I think I'm going to get a prostitute to spend the night. I mean, I was going to do that anyway, but now I have far less self-loathing about it.

Freaking hearts! Can't live with them, can't live without them...literally. Sorry to hear about yours. If I may shine a bit of sunshine on a dark day, you are young and in good health. The surgery will be a pain but it is likely you will recover well and be back to your new and improved self in no time. I pray it all goes well.

Thank you. I'm not sweating the surgery, the days leading to it are gonna be hell.

I've been looking at the facts and I'm feeling pretty good about what I've read. Ha ha. I'm having trouble sleeping too but no prostitute can help me sleep. Unless...do they cure heart problems? No?

At least the scar will be something to look forward to. All the girls love a guy who stops a group of orphans from getting shot by taking the bullet to the chest.

Certainly best of luck to you. My grandmother had a quad bypass and mitral valve replacement at 78, and she came out just fine. I know it's some scary shit, but your odds aren't bad. They've come a long way with cardiac care.
Oh, and make sure to follow your doc's post-op instructions!
Jesus dude you have my best wishes. Keep us updated!

Good luck with the surgery. My only real piece of advice is that you schedule the surgery for as early in the morning as you can. ASSUMING you can sleep the night before, you won't be sitting around waiting all day and getting more and more nervous as time goes on.

My dad ran into a barb wire fence once (to catch a fly ball, which he did, boom, headshot). He was also in multiple car accidents. He said that the pain after quad bypass was a 10, and everything else in his life was a 1.
So in a sense, you're getting the worst physical pain you could possibly have over with at 21, and the rest of your life will be uphill from here (if you live)!
Good luck! :)

I'm a day away. Tomorrow I go in at 8 AM and I'm not gonna be out for a couple days.
Here's to waking up in a bed instead of not waking up at all.

Wow. I wish you the best. I had a Grand Mal Seizure back in October. Apparently they run in my family. Doctors later told me they guessed I had a 40% of dieing. I can't remember anything of the 14 days I was there, everyone told me I was awake and talking most of the time.
The only thing I remember was waking up and trying to rip my catheter out. That woke me up real quick.
Best of luck. I'll send ya a prayer.

Ah, fuck. That sucks. Glad to see you've recovered and didn't bite the big one.
I really hope I don't get a catheter.

Yeah, trying to rip a balloon out of your man tubes is not fun. Luckily my nurse was hot.

You'll get a catheter. Standard surgical procedure. It wouldn't do to have you empty your bladder on the table, even if urine is sterile. They'll probably place it while you're under, though.
Good luck getting your heart all patched up. I'm sure you'll be up and around in no time.
