I recently had my computer up-graded, when we did this we saved all my photo's, and several documents on a zip drive disk, the problem now is I can't open them at all. For some reason they have properties read-only now, and I have no idea how to fix it. If anyone has any clue how I might fix it that would be great. Thanks.

Read only means you can view them, from the ZIP Drive, but can't copy/move them to the HD. Try right clicking on the files, going under properties. Usually, there'll be a check box for "Read Only", uncheck it.

I applied attributes as you suggested, however when the folders come up they look something like this:
:8.7g+g.9ca
:a424sf8.j6t
Now..I know I didn't name the files this, they had normal names, like Kid's Pics..etc..any idea what is happening now.
Could the attributes be hidden, and if so how does one un-hide them?

That's probably how they were zipped. ZIP drives zip up files, don't they? You probably have to extract them somehow.

I dont think so.
Zip drives act like mini hard drives.
A zipped file like WINZIP is a compressed file and different.
As far as I know the files should have the same names unless your files were in fact first compressed before being recorded to the ZIPDRIVE.
