Awesome. Reminded me of another weird thing that happened last year. Remember that weird twister/black hole looking thing that was caught on camera by news crews and city people all over some European country last year? Yeah that. I tried to google it but I got some crazy sites.

Found it.

What isn't mentioned is that the skull demonstrated over 360 DNA sequences that have not been found in any primate species or human species. Very likely they are traits that were weeded out over the past 1000 years and very specific to the region, but none the less, very mysterious.

The other Holocaust. Ottomans were brutal. If you chunk in the Greeks and Assyrians, they were just as bad as the Germans and Russians. It also interesting to note that the Kurds partook in the killings during this genocide.

Crick told a fellow scientist that he often used small doses of LSD then an experimental drug used in psychotherapy to boost his powers of thought. He said it was LSD, not the Eagle's warm beer, that helped him to unravel the structure of DNA. The biological secret of life's discovery won him the Nobel Prize.

That's crazy, though confusing how he posts everything. Didn't fully finish it yet. From what it seems like... Seeing as he "stopped posting pictures" of whatever he found, I'm guessing we are never going to know. What a shame.

Some good stuff so far.

Where did the planets' names come from?

http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/astronomy/q0171.shtml

That's right, Uranus (father of Saturn as Saturn is the father of Jupiter) was named due to a completely mistaken etymology. Whoopsy daisy!

.

What did the Greeks call the planets before they got knowledge from the Sumerians, though?

http://www.theoi.com/Titan/AstraPlaneta.html

The redness of what we call Mars was originally defined by the Greeks as not bloody war but the inflammation of sexy passion. Oh, those Greeks! What would our image of Martians be like if that had taken hold rather than the Sumerian Great Bull of Heaven? I reckon more Dejah Thoris, less little green men with lasers.

Who was the guy who decided to go with war over passion? Some nerd with an astrolabe decided to, and that influence is felt today by billions of people. Isn't that staggering?

Looking over the site is pretty interesting. The thing I noticed right away is that the pictures of the three children looked shopped. The detail (look at their hair; you can see strands) seems too advanced for 1950. None-the-less, that is very cool. Very creepy.

Good thing there is "formerly known as" information in your profile or I'd have no idea who you are, Jihnas :)

Nothing crazy, just work and family/friends stuff. I don't know why but sometimes I just forget to come here and lurk or post for months at a time. Glad to see so many people are still here though.

So, I need to go about updating wikipedia about the Great Chicago Fire and Peshtigo, Wisconsin fire. But basically, scientists have proven that it wasn't Mrs O'Leary's cow that kicked over the lantern, but instead a string of meteors hit Wisconson, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan that night. Over 12 fires happened throughout the Midwest, all starting at the same time.

If I remember the whole story, the neighbors did complain. I think he ended up backing up the sewage line so badly, he went out into the sewer pipe to try and unclog it. Thus he was caught while trying to do this.

I'm 6 years late in responding, but a quick search shows that m444w still posts. Sad as the death of fantastical tales are, Griaule's work with the Dogon has been largely discredited since the early 1990s. Most of his findings were unable to be replicated over several studies. No other Dogon creation myth has since been known to exist, and it's not a widely (or at all) believed part of their ethnography.

Also, Hi. I'm Steve.
