View Full Version : Hollow Soulstone Wand
Jarvan

You remove a hollow soulstone wand from in your suede pack.
The wand is crafted out of hollowed soulstone filled with a viscous black substance. Upon closer examination, you notice that the viscous black substance appears to be some form of unnatural blood. The blood roils back and forth within its confines, as if it is whimsically taunting the pure white soulstone that contains it.
here are some details on it..
1. ---loresong info removed to protect the guilty, have it sung to at your own peril---
2. Point wand at an animate, costs 30 mana, completely heals animate, unlimited use.
3. Wave wand at dead PC or dead critter to prepare for animation (replacing crystals), prepares well enough to allow you to animate as if you had, approximate, 120 ranks of necromancy lore MORE than what you have (for a capped person, its level based, but basically the wand allows you to animate at level even with no lore). Unlimited use, no mana.
4. Wave wand at severed limb (from 708) to animate that limb. Unlimited use, no mana.

Who the heck is Sunmage, and why do you immediately update right after Sunmage posts, while it takes you much longer to update when Arctal bids?
It's suspicious that this guy suddenly pops out of the woodwork, bidding 185m, when no one (that I know of) has ever heard of him before.
Auction opens - 4/16, 3:36 p.m. with Arctal's 150m bid (officials)
Sunmage bids - 4/18, 4:35 p.m. for 160m (officials)

Not sure whom Sunmage is ingame, but they had emailed me thru play.net to ask if I would accept cash as well as silver before they bid. With this fest going on, I have been refreshing the forums about every half an hour to make sure I didn't miss something. Like the pie makers.
As for updating, I worked Third shift, and tend to go asleep about this time.

Well if it's the same Sunmage on the PC he created an account in 2007 and this is his only post on these forums in 2008:
http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?p=671595#post671595
It looks like he won whatever he bid on too, now we just need to find Winter's Kiss and ask him to tell us who he sold a jerkin to for 1.5 million over 3 years ago and we're one step closer to solving the Sunmage case.
Or not.
Interesting that the only Sunmage post on the PC is before Jarvan's join date. Doesn't mean anything, of course.
Google cache shows someone who didn't post much on the officials either, and signed their posts there as "Sol" (not sure if this link will work/keep working)

The answer to this could be as simple as Jarvan posts on the officials more than he posts here. If you really believe that this isn't a legitimate bid, then let it sit at 185m and possibly lose out on an item that you may never see up for sale again.
I believe that Jarvan is a legitimate merchant and would highly doubt that he'd do something like this. Though, I have seen a lot of good people go bad.
Could easily be a legitimate bid, just curious to accept cash offers from someone whom you haven't verified in game, and who has no reputation on either the officials or unofficials. Sunmage could just as easily be someone bluff-bidding to bump up the price for fun, and have no consequence if he wins/backs out. Or a legitimate contender posting on a little-used account with tiny bumps in price multiple days after the last in order to make Arctal frustrated/reluctant to continue.
I put it in league with the Tsin/Widgets "private bidder" type situation, and would really recommend that Jarvan have them post their identity openly to have their bid count.

This is the type of item that people who don't bother with the boards and buying/selling will go out of their way to get. It doesn't surprise me that people are coming out of nowhere to bid.

Its Jarvan's sale, noone has had issue with Jarvan, so whats the big deal, if it was someone there had been problems with I could see having issues, the maze has brought alot of people out of the woodwork, I know almost all the people that sent PMs about the bow I sold werent people I had ever seenpost here, should I have had the FBI investigate them all? Theres no shortage of well off people in game and demanding they out themselves is ridiculous.

He mentioned it when this one was pulled in the maze, in that other thread.
Him and Evarin both have one. These are very nice items to have, and if I didn't put my sorcerer on the back burner, I'd try to pick this up for sure

Nah. Don't get me wrong, animating two things, that would be awesome, but not 200m awesome. There are better things for me to spend my coins on, like 4 slot fusion items, or song of mirrors gorgets.

I know.. I just mean he is more likely to get song of mirrors that way then getting an item with it.
Tho it irks me that they have items with our bard songs in them, but then our songs won't work with something awesome like a Blink Weapon.
Danical
04-20-2011, 03:57 PM
In the case of blink weapons, it's not a deliberate choice. It has to do with the fact that the code behind Spellsongs looks as if it was written by someone inspired by Jackson Pollock, that is to say, totally incomprehensible.
I'm still holding out hope a song of mirrors gorget is in the droughtman pile somewhere. It too was from the 06 auction, like the soulstone wand.

Aww, Inspire, I see you still have a hard-on for me. My comments here were hardly random. Jarvan's been dicking around with Arctal and dragging out the sale, and a nameless fellow keeps upping the bid slightly. I don't expect you to be able to figure that sort of thing out, though.

No, rather I'm pointing out how you're trolling high end sales.
Jarvan is legit and you're murking up the water. Unnecessarily. Unless you're bidding, STFU and watch like the rest of us. Don't try to start problems by calling out the (legit) seller and accusing him of ... "dicking around with Arctal and dragging out the sale."
Didn't you drag out your sales and even end up pulling the items that had bids on them because you had met your goal? That bullshit is more annoying than anything that has happened here. You're also the only one bitching and it didn't happen to you.

I'm just watching out for a friend of mine who's a bit too trusting sometimes, and considering that 2-3 days is the norm for most auctions, this one has already gone on for quite awhile.

Word. Jarvan's the one who chose when to start the auction. He should honor the usual timeframe instead of this BS.
FWIW, I wouldn't rush this auction through in 2 or 3 days. I think higher end items, and this certainly qualifies, deserve at least a week.
Archigeek
04-20-2011, 05:48 PM
A whole lot of people take longer than 2-3 days, particularly on an item of this nature. Heck, if it were me I'd want to give people enough time to gather the requisite pile necessary to mount an assault on it. Unless I'm missing something, he hasn't done anything wrong here.
And stop making me agree with Inspire. It makes me feel dirty.

Yeah this. I've never owned a high end item and I doubt I ever will and I don't blame people one bit for having the auction last at least a week. That's what I would do. What's fair is that the person selling the item get as much silvers out of it as they can, not rush through an auction and possibly lose out on millions of silvers because of some arbitrary time limit others want to impose on an auction that is not even theirs.
Granted I think he should have stated when the auction would end on the first post but I see people all the time announce an end date after a few bids have already been made and no one has ever said anything before. Not that I've noticed anyways.

Ok, I talked to Arctal before this auction started, and told him it was not going to be a real quick sale. Sale started During the Spitfire event, and you know how people are during merchant events.
Also, Since he has some runs coming up in the Maze, which starts again tonight, I had said if he pulled something it could be used as trade. hard to do that when a deal is already done.
As for the length of the auction, I did that also to let those out there that were interested, have a chance to try to get it. I've had a few trade offers that would be even higher then the current bid, but I wasn't interested in the items or trying to auction them later. So IF I had put a BO, I know it would be over already. I chose not to.
I haven't cheated anyone on these forums or in game yet, and I doubt I ever will.
