Padded armor + Resistance Helm?

Ok, I am reading conflicting information so I suppose I will pose this here. If my toon is wearing damage padded full plate and I add a head and neck protecting helm that is resistant to cold attacks, does the padding still apply to those areas or is it simply replaced by the cold protection?

Excellent. I would hope that would not also mean that applying a nomal helm would then decrease the padding by 50% as well, though?
