Some folks wanted some clarification and examples of created items using the alteration boxes. Feel free to ask questions about them, if you wish.
The first question most people were asking was, could they be used with player forged weapons. Absolutely, but they need to be plain. No hilts. We altered two by grinding down the hilts, per Perivan.
So far, gems can clasp, whorl, dust and stud.
Most skins that have worked have been pelts, furs and skins. I could not get a horn or bone to work with anything yet.
Here's what we've made minus a couple weapons so far:
some crisp grey linen trousers set with tiny lagoon opal studs
a feather-tied dark leather thigh-quiver dusted with nacreous blue waterweb flecks
a full-sleeved blood red shirt set with whorls of mistvein diamond chips (should be a dagger shirt)
a leafy forest green satchel woven with thin strips of fenghai fur
an inky black quiver clasped with a green amber solitaire
a linen pouch set with whorls of red sunstone chips
a simple silver mesh pack set with tiny lunar jasper studs
a white ora katar trimmed with a waern fur (Iasha white ora)
a pair of ivory leather boots set with whorls of Alhan'aht rivertear chips
a silver-tooled leather backsheath clasped with a shadowy wraithaline solitaire
a notched shock-infantry claidhmore with some dragonfire quartz set in its hilt
I had two or three more, but probably lockered them. That's it for now. We'll continue to play with it.

These are the alteration boxes being won at Droughtmans, though there were a few rare ones out there before these.

I can has erithian stuffs?
Yep, sure can.
I altered a TON of stuff already from the sweat shop at the Spitfire. Those items work wonderfully with the alteration boxes. Unfortunately, I only carry gems around with me. Even with the new gems from FWI, you can only do so many before you begin to think you're overdoing the gem routine. I need to get my hands on a bunch of pelts, skins, feathers and maybe some other skin type items. I do not believe skins like ears, eyes, fingers and such work. While I wish horns would, so far they have not.
If anyone wants me to make something for them, just ask. Bring the raw materials....the item and skin or gem and I'll make it for you. If you want more than a single item done, I will charge per item but any fee I ask for will be simple or relatively cheap. 10k or a couple nice skins/gems to share would be more then plenty to pay for my time.
Lastly, it's not my alteration chest, so while I have near unlimited access it's nice to ask first so I can make sure I have it ready to go when you show up.
This works really well with shoes. Unfortunately, any items that already have a long will not work with the box. Some scripts work, some do not. The dagger sleeve shirts work but the new dagger bodice/gowns have not so far. Possibly just because they already have longs, perhaps. I don't know as there's still some learning going on with this thing.
You're not going to find Drakefang. That's just Galenok's last name. So if you want some work, just find him.

Do bows (ranged weapon) work in the box?

Do bows (ranged weapon) work in the box?
Yep, they work nicely.
It's pretty random, though. Skins/pelts typically will make a grip. Feathers seem to go on as decoration and gems can do what gems do, which is pretty much anything.

Gale, any idea as to whether or not something like this would work with rare skins?
IE: Tehir stuff?

I don't see why not. It would have to be tested. I can't answer. We've experimented with about 8 total skins/bones/eyes/what have you. Not all gems seem to work but most do. Additionally, some item bases won't work.
Be glad to try it out though.

I'll hit you up on Lich then to talk further!
Really cool of you to share how these work. Thank you!

I wish I knew more. It's easy with gems. You see patterns based off the hardness of the gems. That is what determines what the gem does with regard to the clothing item. I have no idea what cabochons do with them. I managed to get the green amber from FWI to become a clasp, twice, but it is the only gem I've managed to do that with. Hard gems whorl. Soft gems usually stud. Something in between might fleck. I've not experimented much with shoes and boots.
Skins are a completely different ballgame. I can't really skin. So, I haven't tested them near as much. Again, if anyone wants to test this thing out, I'll combine anything you want to hand to me. I enjoy seeing how things turn out. Items with long alters won't work. Some scripts won't work with it either. I don't know the breakdown. The dagger-sleeved shirts work fine with it, but the new dagger gowns/bodices/corsets from the Spit don't.
It's a process.
To add to Galenok's, some things I've done playing about with my own trunk...
a dwarven mining backpack set with whorls of white soulstone chips,
a sturdy thick leather satchel clasped with a maernstrike diamond solitaire,
a silver-twined murky black censer set with whorls of black deathstone chips, (Vorrath? Scripted censer from many years ago worked)
a mining backpack clasped with a black deathstone solitaire,
an urnon falchion with a radiant opalescent thunderstone set in its hilt, (no merchant would actually alter this falchion period, box had no such qualms)
a sapphire-set rolaren warblade with a deep blue thunderstone set in its hilt, (highly scripted anfelt blade worked fine)
a skull-headed vultite mace with a misty blue dragonsbreath sapphire set in its haft (Extra fancy Ebon gate gem worked fine)
Incidently, if you bump into Omah, he's willing to put anything in the box you might have to try with the random end result at your own risk - currently loitering about icemule but soon off back to Teras.

I like how your two containers got clasped. That is not always the result. I wonder what dictates that.
Here's the list of items I've created so far:
a leafy forest green satchel woven with thin strips of fenghai fur
a silver-tooled leather backsheath clasped with a shadowy wraithaline solitaire
a pair of ivory leather boots set with whorls of Alhan'aht rivertear chips
a ruby-clasped ivory formal cape set with whorls of amber sea glass disk chips
a feather-tied dark leather thigh-quiver dusted with nacreous blue waterweb flecks
some crisp grey linen trousers set with tiny lagoon opal studs
a linen pouch set with whorls of red sunstone chips
a full-sleeved blood red shirt set with whorls of mistvein diamond chips (dagger shirt)
textured brushed leather jacket clasped with a green amber solitaire
an enruned snow white tabard dusted with Alhan'aht rivertear flecks
a long-sleeved white linen shirt dusted with shadowy wraithaline flecks (dagger shirt)
a sanguine silk satin shirt set with tiny shadowy wraithaline studs
a silvered doeskin kilt set with whorls of multihued auboraline chips
a narrow-bladed silver vultite katar inset with an inky blue smoldereye
a veniom-hafted bearded alloy waraxe with a deep blue mermaid's-tear sapphire set in its haft (scripted not sure where it was from)
a sun-etched copper map case set with whorls of green pearl chips
a white ora katar trimmed with a waern fur (tier 1 Iasha weapon)
That's all I still have on me. Several other items were used with skins but handed back to those whose items it was. Also, Lissanne has made many items.
As you can see, the same gems do different things to various objects. The wraithaline, for instance, dusts and studs. Rivertears dust and whorl. It's hit or miss and exciting to see how combinations will turn out. I definitely need more examples using skins.

I've has a ruby as a clasp, been playing with mine for a few years and have no idea how or why it's determined how the gems will go into the item. Found most weapons have the gem placed in the hilt or capped for rune staves. I also will use the box for good... The items from the Spitfire worked exceptionally well with the box and 4 winds gems. Many cloaks, satchels, and pouches altered and in my shop - buy my stuff! LoL

I'd be interested in testing it out on my bow and a few forged items if you get a chance.

I'll be working with Vivina later this week to try out some rare materials.
So far I have red and black mein shards (appraised as gems) some brilliant purple opals, some cut gems and Minotaur hides
