So I came back to the game and discovered after spending much time roleplaying elves elsewhere that my Human ranger is now lame and I have little to no interest in it anymore. Oh snap.
Anyway, here's a Sylvan rogue. I sort of flung points at its training. I started out thinking Brawling would be fun. At the moment it's kind of boring, but then hunting thyrils was only fun the first time you were level 5. I like ambushing from hiding and the quick cooldown on fist weapons. Still under the 30 day skill migration though, so there's room for change.
He'll be a picker. Mostly for my own benefit. I'm hearing noises that the demand for smiths has reached a low.

I seriously felt as if I had a HUGE number of points and didn't know where to put them, so I just plunked them in places that looked good. I have no idea what they're supposed to be at this level.
I set the stats for growth because I'm OCD. You don't have a problem with this, right? Seriously, do you have a problem with it? I hope not. I think you might, but I'm not sure. It does bother me a bit that you might be bothered...

I'd get a dagger and poke eyes out for the fastest hunting.

Seems a bit more than similar to fist-weapons. Heh.
To be honest I'm not really in love with Gem's combat system anymore. I'd rather just roleplay.
Or something.
I know, real helpful.

If it is just a roleplay rogue who picks just put everything into picking, disarming, and perception. Except you need some more Arcane Symbols early on for scarabs, 15 ranks I think? Pick a weapon type other than Brawling to take down weak creatures for bounty tasks.
lose the First Aid... if you want Survival keep it at less than half the character's level so you don't get skinning bounties that you can't do.

As strange as this may seem, I think lock mastery is easier when you don't 3x train in it.(assuming you will be learning that in the guild) That way, you come across more challenging boxes in your everyday hunting. Also, you have no shield use or TWC use? Personally, I think you should drop locksmithing to 2x for now, and pick up a shield at least.
As for brawling, I tried it on my rogue. It was great for the voln fu stuff, but the weapons lacked that umph, and I thought undead were a pain in the arse to always have to fight. If you're gonna stick with it, give voln a serious look.
I'm not to keen on stats, I usually ask for help myself for them, with the different growths and all, I just don't care enough for that. I take advice from other people for that stuff.
Get to 15 fast, so you can join the guild. Guild work is a pain and a grind, but actually it can be lots of fun.

Good advice, good advice, thank you.
I was going to make it almost entirely a locksmith character, but with the state of the game the way it is, it looks like the best place to get boxes to open is by finding them myself.
Bleh.
Also it's level 8 now! Because at this level it's a lot easier to just sit and fletch all day. I work from home and I may or may not have had the fletching script running nonstop all week.
:lolwave:
Someone told me to 3x the picking skills up until level 8 or so. I accept all advice as gospel when it comes to rogue matters, so that's what I was doing.
Taking notes on all this. No FA? You know, I have it on my ranger. But all my characters carry every type of needed herb with them, so really now that I think about it, it's a waste of points. *dumps*
Should I pick up a spell? Am I annoying anyone yet?

Give yourself sometime to get back into the swing of things. I actually think that the things have improved since I came back from my last hiatus. Also, being a lowbie, it is going to be tough to be a locksmith for people, simply because not too many people are hunting what you can pick.
And as for 3x trains in locksmith skills, that actually makes sense in earlier levels. Picking up spells to 404 would be great too, 1 so traps don't stump you (i think they are harder than the locks) and 2, it would give you the ability to pick much harder locks, while at the same giving you a chance in lock mastery to find enough decently challenging boxes.

Giving BAD information.
LFM is based on a 2x pick/disarm build. At that amount of training, you need a lock 75% of your max-lock under the conditions to get a rep for "tough boxes" and 66% of your max-lock under the conditions for audience reps. If you go ABOVE 2x, those percentages go down, meaning the range of boxes you can actually rep from goes up. If you are LESS than 2x, those percentages go up, meaning the range of boxes you can get a rep from goes down. The only time that's a serious problem is mid-level, upper LFM ranks when you have to use at least veniom lockpicks... one level 40-50 critter is dropping -300 locks, and another is dropping -700 locks. You kinda need those -700s.

I'm good at that, sorry. Gibs advice is way better than mine.
