Note: If there is a thread around here that is what I am looking for, I'd rather not clutter up the boards, so a link would be better if there is one.

What exactly goes into the Voln Fu MB formula? I'd like to know if race affects it, what skills go into it, what spells affect it, anything and everything that can make it go up and down that people know of. Any information would be appreciated, as I'd like to get a concrete idea in my head of what I'll need if I am going to make a character that uses it.

Edit: To clarify, I mean both offensive and defensive MB, but try to differentiate which one you are talking about.

Spells that I know affect it positively:
Strength (509)
Mobility (618)
Benediction (307)

Since I was bored, I did a little test as far as holding objects... My brawler is 22 trains, dark elf, and has 48 ranks in brawling.

Both hands full, kick/punch MB was 240
One hand empty, kick/punch MB was 244
Both hands empty, kick/punch MB was 248

This was with strength and mobility... with benediction it's another +3. Hope that helps somehow.

Basically, any spell or other AS booster gives you an MB offensive boost of (spell or effect bonus to AS) divided by 5. So, strength and benediction give 3, symbol of courage gives 5, and spirit strike gives 15. Mobiles gives you 20.

Defense: spirit spells boost it a lot. Stick up spirit barrier and your defensive MB goes up an insane amount. Stick up walls and you can't be touched. I think a similar bonus as AS applies for other DS spells, but I'm not entirely sure. And of course, brawling helps.

From what I've seen, 1x in brawl is more than sufficient to generate a defensive MB higher than what your offensive MB is.

Bard spellsongs also effect MB.

2x Brawling gives huge offensive MB and it is the 2x-er that get people moaning about how unbalanced fu is... :violin:

I think I am going to go with a ranger here, then. The choice, it seems, would be between Ranger and Bard for the best profession to do Fu with.

Thanks for all the help.

Be a ranger and go hunting with a bard

My ranger ownz at fu at 22. I'll post a snipit in a second. This is with Kick 1, not 2, so you know. 46 ranks of brawling.

>kick zomb
You attempt to kick a zombie!
MB: 238 vs MB: 90 = 148 -- Gain advantage!
Expert maneuver! Perfect position.
THT 68, d100 roll: 90, modified: 238
and hits for 56 points of damage!
... +18 extra hits. Front kick to midsection doubles foe over followed by
knee strike which breaks nose and knocks foe out.
Roundtime: 4 sec.

>kick zomb
You attempt to kick a zombie!
MB: 238 vs MB: 15 = 223 -- Gain advantage!
Blink! Disappeared and then reappeared behind opponent.
THT 68, d100 roll: 93, modified: 316
and hits for 82 points of damage!
... +2 extra hits. Kick to side.
Roundtime: 4 sec.
R>kick zomb
...wait 2 seconds.
R>kick zomb
...wait 1 seconds.
R>kick zomb
You attempt to kick a zombie!
MB: 238 vs MB: 15 = 223 -- Gain advantage!
Blink! Disappeared and then reappeared behind opponent.
THT 68, d100 roll: 94, modified: 317
and hits for 83 points of damage!
... +3 extra hits. Well placed kick to foot forces foe to parry down!
You hear a sound like a weeping child as a white glow separates itself from the zombie's body as it rises, disappearing into the heavens.
The zombie shudders slightly then ceases his so called life.
Roundtime: 4 sec.

what stat bonus adds to voln fu MB strength, dex, or something else?

Fu works fine up till about level 65. Then it sucks to hunt with until you get to constructs.

It's not very good against things that are not dead.
MB drops against live things by about 30, compared to dead things.
As you can see by my sig, braindead things dont qualify as dead :(

Nah...it's just that at level 70+, you have to either wait until you can hunt n'ecares on Plane 3 or greater constructs in OTF to find undead that have a low enough MB to make fu viable. Naisircs blow.

what kind of defensive MB's do they have there then?

Perception and brawl are the keys

Naisircs hover around 300-310. My offensive MB, with maximum dexterity for a Human and symbol of courage running at level 73, was something like 360 and I hunted open hands without a shield. 10-12 damage a kick, 8-10 damage a punch, or I could try and throw it on the ground for about a 25% to 30% shot of getting a successful knock down.

Just not effective when it takes 30-45 seconds to kill something.

Drops by 26, the number of Voln steps.
