View Full Version : Do you like the taste of beer?

Good beer?
I don't like the taste of beer, wine or spirits. If it wasn't for the alcohol content I wouldn't touch any of them.
If only Long Islands tasted like Arnold Palmers then there would have been one I actually liked. But no.

This, but for a few exceptions. I actually love a LI iced tea, amaretto, sambuca, and frozen margaritas. So, girly stuff I guess.
If I have to drink beer i'd rather have a wheat beer, or keg beer (lol).

Can't stand it. I'll drink hard booze straight and neat but beer makes me want to dry heave my lungs up.
Would it be some sort of discrimination or something if I said I am surprised?
I'm very particular. I like Sam Adams (Cherry Wheat the most), Michelob Ultra, and Guinness. Yes, these are three vastly different types of beer. Explain that.

Ha. I like Guinness, being my favorite, and then Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat. Michelob Ultra is too much like Budweiser, Coors, and all the other bleh beers. Corona being the most BLEH.

Ewww too sugary!!
Did not like it when I first tried but now I can’t get enough! I’ve been trying so many crafts and imports that when I raise a Miller Lite to drink it smells like swamp water.
I like all beer. They all are good for different occasions. I would love to see some craft beer snobs try to watch an entire baseball game drinking 13% pale ale without vomiting all over themselves heh.

I like wheats and stouts, like crb, I don't know why. I think I didn't like beer for a long time because growing up in Buffalo, all my friends drank piss water. Although, if I'm forced to drink normal beers, the piss water we drink in Buffalo (Labbatt Blue) seems to be better than its American counterparts, though that may just be nostalgia.

It is nostalgia. Try a Labbatts Blue today.. (it's fucking Canadian.. you know it's not good) then try a good craft beer like Southern Tier (a real upstate NY brewery). Night and day.

Im actually going to the house of a friend tonight who had been trying to brew skittles for like two years. So I will probably get to taste his latest attempt. It actually does taste like skittles mixed with a white beer. Its absolutely awful but you can tell its skittles.
I don't like the taste of any alcohol, although the anise liquors (sambuca, ouzo, Jägermeister, et cetera) come the closest. I drink to reach an altered state, not for the taste.
I like the taste of some beers, especially after a hot day or something, or just to relax at BDubs with friends or something. It's refreshing and the taste isn't exactly what I am aim for, as long as it's palatable. I did have some Sam Adams blackblerry witbeir (I think thats what its called) and it was very good.
If I want to get drunk I'll take shots even if they taste like paint thinner

I like IPAs, lagers, stouts, brown ales, pilsners and don't like wheats for the most part. I won't ever drink a Corona, natty or Pabst if I can help it. Not to say I wouldn't drink one if that was all there was, cause I would. I love the taste of beer. I actually don't drink much beer at all though, maybe one or two bottles a week if that.
Like someone mentioned above about drinking a heavy beer - sometimes the lighter lagers like Bud/Miller hit the spot without tanking you. I just consider myself fortunately I like all beers :)
Admittedly, I like some more than others.

Ok, now I will reveal my secret reason behind this thread. According to this (http://blog.okcupid.com/index.php/the-best-questions-for-first-dates/) there is only 1 question that indicates if a woman is more likely to sleep with you on the first date and that is "Do you like the taste of beer".
Among all our casual topics, whether someone likes the taste of beer is the single best predictor of if he or she has sex on the first date. No matter their gender or orientation, beer-lovers are 60% more likely to be okay with sleeping with someone they've just met. Sadly, this is the only question with a meaningful correlation for women.
So, in summation. Women to mess with: awol0509, Gnome Rage, Niennique, Rucca
Women, who like Wu Tang Clan ain't nothing to fuck with: Dex, DieThx, Hips, Nilandia, RojoDisco

Interestingly enough, I like Michelob Ultra, too. I prefer the amber much more. I like Dos Equis. I dislike many hoppy beers. It's just not my thing. Don't care for IPAs. I like nuttier beers like a Newcastle nut brown. Legend Brewery here makes a very good brown ale. I just prefer my beer smooth and easy to drink with a little more flavor than a Miller lite or a Bud. A lot of the micro/craft lagers and such fit the bill.

Having moved to Wisconsin recently, I have to say my "meh, whatever" attitude towards beer has done a 180. There are so many great breweries here we have yet to drink the same thing more than twice.
There's a shop here that offers the option of mixing and matching from over 300 types of beer. Currently my favorite is Karma's Summer Wheat. But they also have an oatmeal stout there that doesn't have that burned aftertaste I've found in others.

There is a difference between a microbrewed craft beer and what Sam Adams makes. Don't get me wrong, I believe Sam Adams was one of the main driving forces for the resurgence of the microbrewery... but make no mistake, it's not what real beer drinkers call a "craft beer".

I'm with PB on this, even though usually I'm the one who's a stickler for whether something falls within an explicit definition. Heh. Sam Adams is in no way comparable to a beer like Goose Island (Illinois), New Glarus (Wisconsin), Capitol Brewery (Wisconsin), or Bell's Brewery (Michigan).
Also, if you ever visit Wisconsin, I highly, highly recommend trying anything by New Glarus or Capitol Brewery. I don't really like beer in general, but I like some of theirs.
Is Sam Adams still a craft beer? (http://beernationshow.com/?p=722)

Guinness, Murphey's Stout and Stone IPA.
just trolling the site and I fell in love....
;)
I can only drink like 2 pints of any stout before I feel like I'm going to explode or need a shit.
Shame because I really like the stuff. NOT the cold draught fyi.

Good beer and not the dirty water most american breweries market to us tastes great.
Beer snobs are so annoying.
Yes I like real good craft beers that you would consider "good beer" but light beers aren't horrible if you're not looking to be full after 2 beers.
Edit: After reading the entire thread I apologize for quoting Ardwen only. Clearly there are a lot of you here.

I feel the same way about light beers.
When I go out Saturday night to watch the college football national championship game, I will be drinking light beer.
But I also take issue with people who "don't" like beer, but have only ever had Rolling Rock or Coors Light. They've not had real beer.
It's like someone who took three sips of Franzia telling me they don't like red wine.

hate beer. will crave it every now and then but halfway thru a bottle I'm done.
mixed drinks tend to be alright, and even straight liquor.
smirnoff ice grape soda is nice. for something stronger ice 101 don;t taste to bad and puts you on your ass fairly quick. sweet thick pepperminty and 101 proof

smirnoff ice grape flavor... tastes like grape soda. and I don;t put umbrellas in em but the bar does if you go to the right place.
I got no problems standing at the bar with a fruity pink drink with an umbrella in it.

The big american domestics are practically undrinkable, I don't drink them on purpose (sometimes it can't be helped, of course.) Lately, if I'm drinking beer, its Guiness. Good stuff. Oh, and I really dislike IPAs. Just not that in to being beaten over the head with hops.
If I'm out to get hammered, its tequila, and plenty of it. I also like a good, well made whiskey sour (anything but Jack Daniels, I literally cannot even stand the smell of it, the shit is toxic.)
Interestingly, you know what country's domestic beer is possibly worse than ours? Spain. Ugh...four years living with Estrella Damm, and you find yourself wishing for a PBR.

Great Lakes Brewing Company's Blackout Stout.
A Russian imperial stout with a hearty malt body and bold hop flavor.

That sounds okay, but I really prefer a daring hop flavor over a bold hop flavor.
