Hey guys! Just had my second follow up MRI/PET appointment after having a plum sized malignant tumor removed from my right temporal lobe area, 44 days ago. The recovery has been the most difficult process of my life, but I'm feeling like I might win this! At least I can read and type now without having severe dizziness and nausea. I thank whatever god there may be for letting me get through this without chemotherapy, because my tumor was in such an operable location.
Just going to throw this out there, The Cleveland Clinic, especially the neurology department, is a godsend for people with problems like mine. The staff there couldn't be more wonderful, and the facilities are immaculate and comfortable.
Hope to be playing again soon!
Well done and good luck for the future man!

One of the lucky few, good luck.
What happened to the plum?
Just saying if I were you I’d put that in a jar of formaldehyde and put it on my mantle so that every morning I could wake up and point and say “PWND”!

Awesome news! Its good to hear that you're doing well and I hope that you continue to recover so awesomely. It is even better that you're doing it without chemo - though bald is beautiful! Keep at it! <3 Sending lots of love and good thoughts your way.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! They wouldn't let me keep it for the mantlepiece, but I DID get to see a good bit of it, after they dissected it to be examined. I can't believe that thing came out of my head!
To anyone who knows, or has known someone going through something like this, be the best friend you can be to them! Nothing in my life has been as difficult or scary, but my friends are an invaluable asset to my morale and my sense of hope. That can be just as helpful and miraculous as any medicine. Thanks guys!

I dunno man. Thats like some kind of lawsuit if they took a part of your body without an organ donation card or something. What are they doing with it? It is your property.

The HeLa cells were taken without her permission or her family's knowledge, and used for research for 60 years.

Well, what they took is mostly tumor, with an extremely small amount of surrounding tissue. I'm not sure what they are going to do with it, after the pathology lab gets through with it I would assume that it gets incinerated with other medical waste. As to organ donation, I'm a willing organ donor, maybe they gave it to some poor sap needing a tumor transplant?

I had my tonsils in a jar of formaldehyde from when I had them out at 7 until my father totally freaked out when they turned green... I dunno, at the time I thought they were a pretty color. ::le sigh::
Srsly, be glad you didn't do that.
Hang tough, you'll make it.

That is both fascinating and repulsive, I like it. I never thought to ask them if I could keep it, I can look at my MRI printout and say "pwnd!" though! I intend to do so often.

A friend of mine had a golf ball sized one removed from his sinuses. I always thought of Total Recall after that, and also understood why he'd get such amazingly severe headaches.
I'd get the MRI framed.

Matt asked to keep his golf ball but they wouldn't let him. I guess no one gets to keep their extra parts anymore - except beguiler.
Seriously though, I said it before and I'll say it again, AWESOME man.

You search a grayish plum sized tumor.
Interesting, it carried a large granite maul on it!
wonder where it was hiding that? I thought I felt top heavy!

My boss used to oversee the food operations at the CC. How was it? :) Heard they do a pretty intense business there... like 300 caterings a day.
Insane.
Glad you're doing well.
Also - I think the reason behind no longer keeping prizes from surgeries is because they're considered biological waste hazards or some shit. My old boss had half his leg amputated and he was trying to get it to put on his wall, but they wouldnt let him. People have no fun anymore.

If I ever have something amputated, you can guarantee I'll be taking it with me. I don't care what they say, I'll snatch a cane and hit some people till I get my body part back.

The sun comes out!
Pissed that you cant drive for 20 rounds!
Thanks for all the well wishes guys, wishing you all the best too. I can finally get out to take short walks, but short walks only go so far to relieve boredom. Still kinda spacey to be playing GS or Starcraft, working on it though. Drive and work again September 1st is everything continues as it has been. It seems so far away!

Yeah, don't push the video games. My boyfriend has been out of the hospital for almost a month now and he still can't play them without feeling sick. But I'm not sure if his surgery was more minor than yours.
Anyways, take some time, don't push anything and have lots of people to keep you unbored.
Reltov420
04-10-2011, 08:52 PM
The thing I need to not push is rock climbing! It dominates my life in a huge way. (used to anyway) Still, looking at a screen for more than 10 minutes or so really starts to make me uncomfortable, so I'm not going to push that either. Wishing your boyfriend a speedy and effective recovery too!
Gnome Rage
04-10-2011, 08:55 PM
Of course you want to get up and be active but you need to keep your mind on recovery! He says the screen makes him dizzy and lightheaded, like he needs to lie down. If that's what you get, don't push it. He throws up if he does. I'm sure you know that already though.
Rock climbing is tons of fun, I remember when I went the first time I was terrified. The second time wasn't nearly as bad, but I haven't gone again. You're obviously strong bodied, and more importantly strong willed. Keep it like that, beat the shit out of cancer. <3

I used up my computer time for today, feeling the headache. Most of it was spent looking at pictures from the Red River Gorge, from my many previous climbing experiences. I tried to put one up here, but I must be too dumb right now.

Megadeth really is awesome. 99 ways to die is up there in my favorites.
I'm doing VERY much better, I could be the poster child for quick recovery in fact. Surgery was Feb. 28, and yesterday I sent a climb called 'No Redemption' at the red river gorge in Kentucky, a 5.13b. It seems REALLY ridiculous that 6 weeks ago I was so fucked up I needed help getting up stairs, and now I can crush as hard as ever. Miracles of modern medicine. Awesome.

Maybe they are going to eat it.. with fava beans and a nice chianti.
