I was absent the day speeches were assigned, and I walk into English all, "I kick ass." So my teacher is like, "You. Do a speech. And you have to give me a topic right now." So I was like, "Uh................................... GemStone?" and she was like, "OKAY IT'S DUE TOMORROW 3-5 MINUTES LONG HAVE A NICE DAY."

Plenty of topics. Internet Addiction. Could talk about MUD's in general, like what they are, and that's also how people first interacted on the Internet. Could compare the sophistication of a text-based game to that of a novel vs. graphic games.

If you're going to give a speech about Gemstone, try to tie it into the evolution of the online gaming industry over the past decade. This way, when the chicks still won't give it up to you, it'll be because you're a computer dweeb and not cause you gave a speech about obsessively playing a text based roleplaying game that nobody has ever heard of. Uh, I mean, cause it's easier to talk for 5 minutes about a broader topic. I always did five shots of Absolut Citron before my speeches, and I got an A. Listen to my wisdom.

Or atleast compare it to graphical games like EQ, AC, or DAoC. Hell you might beable to get away with combat and gear comparisons to Diablo 1/2 which some of your classmates might beable to better relate to.

3-5 minutes is a SHORT speech.

There's no way Bob could talk about "evolution of gaming industry" in just 3-5 minutes.

My advice is just talk about why you play the game and how you enjoy it.

OR, even better yet...

Talk about all the crazy people here on the PC boards, that is yet somehow a community, despite the internet anonymousity. ;)

I am not all that comfortable explaining gemstone to those who have no idea of what it is and I am a little older than yourself. (first comment about my age gets a kneecaping)

I enjoyed Speech when i took it in college and also gave every speech extemporaneously on whatever I felt like except for the few for which we were required to hand in an outline and such.
