So I had to replace the HDD in this computer before it was sent to a customer. I open the case and it has two sticks of 128 DDRAM and one stick of 512 DDRAM. I check the ticket history, purchase order, etc on this computer and it's only supposed to have 256 total DDRAM in it. Short story long I've got a new 512 stick for my computer at home
This sounds suspiciously like an appreciation post...

Yeah the computer I "found" at work has a gig of RAM in it now but this 512 will replace one of the 4 256 sticks I've got in it.

SDRAM or DDRAM? If it's SD I'm sure I can find a 256 stick or 2 for it.

Not sure, where do I check. I don't see it on the system info. Does it say on the actual memory stick?

Celeron? Ouch Bob.
Tell your parents to hook you up with a better processor.

It's the type of memory, you'll be able to tell when you look at the actual stick SDRAM will have a slot that is close to the middle of the connectors (bronze looking edge) DDRAM will have a slot but it will be real close to one side. It should say but if it doesn't that's how to tell.

Memory Slot 1 Description [DIMM_A]: 128Mb
Memory Slot 2 Description [DIMM_B]: 128Mb
I'm guessing DIMM is SDRAM. Could any memory size work on any comp? I remember picking out this kind to make sure it was compatible with my old laptop.
If its 4 years old I'd guess it was SDRAM anyway.

Get me a new computer Anticor.
My computer crashes whenever I:
Play a graphical game
or
Do any long term scripting (more than 5 consecutive minutes)
Help your Daddy out.

I need to drop some cash on a Vid card though, finding one here is slim to none. Found a good one that was NVidi dual but it was slotted for use bastards.

I used to run GS3 on an old AT&T laptop. 75mhz, 12mb ram.
(It was a 25mhz w/ 4mb ram, but I looked on E-bay, paid a guy 7 bucks, and he gave me a 12mb chip and threw in a 75mhz processor.)

(no, it's not wireless, but it does have a network card sticking out the right side. Downloaded the new FE quick as hell)
Also notice the one big power button and two slide buttons that control the brightness/contrast.

That's tight, I'll have to show you the Compaq "lunchbox" laptop I've got at work. The thing must way 20 pounds but it's portable... Has a 75MHz processor and I don't recall the RAM right now.

Yeah, this one's pretty thick and heavy. Battery is shot (and paying for a replacement is just rediculous) so I just plug it into a wall. If you have a 75mhz straight from the shop, you might even have 16 or 24mb of ram.

Okay... for grad school we HAVE to have a laptop with wireless...
I've looked at Sony, Toshiba, Dell, etc... what would you all recommend?

The three you named are all fine choices. My past laptops have been a Thinkpad and a Toshiba, and both were excellent. I'd go for a Thinkpad if I were you, but the other three will do. Just say away from Gateway and Compaq/HP, and make sure you don't get a shitty Celeron processor.
My toshiba has been more than adequate. The problem I have with it is my wireless tends to cut out more than others and its a bit heavy for a laptop. Not heavy enough that its a problem but just heavier.

Heh, I've had the same computer for 7 years or something.
Says I have 64, 824 KB Ram. I think it's time to invest in a new computer.:sniffle:

In order
Toshiba = Costs more but they are stable and in my eyes they are the top of notebooks currently.
Sony = Good picture but pricey for what you get
Compaq = Since they got taken over by HP and are now HP/Compaq they are a very stable platform at a good price. It's all we use at work and I have 3 of them at home.
Dell = Hell no, proprietary pieces of shit. You want RAM you pay for Dell RAM, etc. That and they fired Stoner Steve as their spokesperson so they can die.
Gateway = Only if you want an eletronic turd.

HA! Wireless card for the laptop saaaweet. I don't know the sod that was in charge of the inventory before I got here but damn I love him/her. Opened up a laptop back that was supposed to be thrown away, found a wireless card still in bubble wrap and static bag. 2 minutes of install/config later and I'm jammin.

Got a new 512MB DDRAM stick in my computer. One at work got some wicked water damage but the ram tested out so before we sent the machine to be destroyed it went from 512 to 128 lol:

I didnt think you could figure it out without looking at your invoice or cracking the case.
If there is a way, i'd be interested in knowing myself.

Crack the case, look at the RAM if it has two notches on the side with the connectors (part that slides into the slot on the mother board) it's SDRAM, if it has one notch closer to the middle of the connectors it's DDRAM.
