Ok, this is a very cool piece but just not my character's style.
Here's your chance to differentiate a character by giving it a significant set of unique actions that convey a distinct personality.

>a moonlight silver satin cloak

Droughtman said, "That cloak would be of interest to someone who worships Zelia."

9lbs, VLA, can be lightened/deepened. No show.
I can wear it on my shoulders over my back worn mithril-allow mesh cloak. You can test it if you like. I can't wear it over my greatcloak, which is shoulder worn.

Fantastic Loresong:
A silver sheen of magic coats the cloak, flowing over it like a river of essence. The patterns it forms are chaotic and unreadable, leaving no clue as to what its purpose might be.

A high-pitched giggle, completely devoid of any sanity, rings through your mind. For a moment the world shifts, leeched of all known color and familiar landmark. With a nauseating lurch, reality settles back to normal.

Argent moonlight pours over the land, falling from the giant moon that hangs over Melgorehn's Reach. After a moment, a section of the silver light curls and ripples, then floats gently downward. It disappears into the peak, and the scene fades from your mind's eye.

>tap cloak
You tap your cloak. It ripples about you, seeming almost alive.

>tap cloak
You tap your cloak. With a nearly silent sigh, it falls still.

I've only worn it for a few hours, but it seems that when you turn the cloak "on" by tapping it, it randomly forces your character to do all sorts of increasingly bizarre things relating to going insane (no round-time, just messaging). The first and third person messaging is hysterical, and every time it comes (about once every five minutes) I've seen a bunch of these:

XXX whispers OOC "How did you do that?"

I have seen 8 of the unique actions from the first person perspective (I think there are about 15 - 20), and don't want to spoil the fun by posting them in public. This way the owner can baffle folks and sow chaos on their own. If you're interested and want to see the exact messaging that I've found, I'll send it to you via PM.

Here's one first person message as you slip towards insanity:

>You titter to yourself, finding the world impossibly amusing.

I have no idea if the cloak does anything else or if it needs to be worn by a Zelia follower, or why the loresong relates to The Reach. It is absolutely cool and a unique way to add some very special "abilities" to your character. I think it's much more interesting than the rapture cloaks, and it's unique.

Due to overwhelming requests, I'm going to post just two of the first-person "insanity" actions that the cloak bestows:

>
The ties binding your mind to reality slip, leaving you lost but unafraid. A giggle bubbles up and out of your mouth, then another, and another, until you are tittering uncontrollably. Finally the moment wanes, leaving you in control of yourself once more.
>
How could they ask that of you? You cross your arms over your chest and state, "No. I absolutely will not." That'll show em.
>

.. the room messaging is different. Some GM had a blast making this thing. The messages are hysterical, it was tough choosing two.

Thanks to everyone who has submitted very generous buyout offers for consideration. I'm going to let this auction run it's course in public to keep it fair to everybody.

Highest bid in this threat at noon tomorrow will win this special cloak and begins the steady spiral towards insanity...

I wish you were the auctioneer at items I was bidding on! I hate when I loose to invisbile buy outs. It's fine when they put a buy out amount when auctions starts though...

In my recent auction for the bola which was bought via buyout I contacted the previous high bidder and gave them the chance to top the buyout I received in the interest of fairness but they declined. I hate not being given the chance as well.

I like that practice a lot.

I'll second the kudos to Terzl for keeping this sale in the open.

Thanks for the nice words guys.

The buyout offers were for more silvers than I could ever have imagined accumulating (but so is 35m!) but the purpose of an auction is to make sure the person who wants it most - and is willing to let their money ride in plain sight - wins.

Plus, only a truly crazy person would engage in a public bidding war on this cloak - and that's exactly who it should go to!

I like the buyout setup but I hate the auction setup with an end time, it just sets up a situation where someone can snipe it at 11:59 tomorrow.

I know what you're saying man, but lately it seems like everything I bid on I have to PM people first and say "hey there, if you receive a buyout offer please give me a chance to top it, cause I really want this." I've been lucky and pretty much everything I was interested in the seller was nice enough to communicate back to me and let me know where things stood. Essentially though if I get a PM about a buyout offer and I want to top it and PM saying so, then it becomes a private PM bidding session between myself, the other interested party and the seller and since it's not in the open--no one actually has any accountability for these bids.

I personally prefer the open-ended bidding where you just let it go until someone doesn't make a higher bid for 2 days (or however long) and that last bid gets it. Usually I think it's obvious when someone becomes the sole bidder and the last person interested at a certain item's price point, then it's time to start calling ONCE, TWICE, etc and get it settled.
