Having a real problem deciding. We get to keep 5 players from our roster, 16 team league...

ROSTER:

Hitters:

C: Miguel Olivo
1B: Billy Butler
2B: Brandon Phillips
SS: Jimmy Rollins
3B: Kevin Youkilis
OF: BJ Upton
OF: Andre Ethier
OF: Shin Soo Choo
OF: Josh Hamilton
UTIL: Kelly Johnson

Pitchers:

Matt Garza
Tim Hudson
Dan Haren
Ubaldo Jimenez
Ted Lilly
Brett Anderson

I'm KEEPING:

Choo
Hamilton
Youkilis
Ubaldo

---

The toss up is with the 5th slot. Phillips is the 5th ranked 2nd basemen; Rollins the 5th ranked SS. The only other keeper I would consider would be Haren, but do I really need a 2nd ace and pitcher that early??

Phillips, Rollins, or Haren???

HALP!?!!?!?!?!

I think Rollins has a better year this year than he did last, contract year and all.

Negative on Rollins, he's like 40 and coming off injury and would be batting leadoff in a depleted Phils lineup. Keep Haren. Philips may be the 5th best 2B, but you're talking about a position with a positive depth of approximately 2, with an injured Utley. You've got Cano, Uggla, and then a cliff. You could pick up garbage over the waiver wire and not lose much.

Worse comes to worse, deal Haren. You'll get better value for him than either of the others.

YOU ARE BATSHIT INSANE.

Andre Ethier is the single best player your roster can field. Both now, and for the next half-decade. You're seriously taking Choo (who will no longer give you SBs OR power) over the only Dodger with a legitimate shot at an MVP in a healthy season?

Phillips puts up numbers at a premium position, and is hard to replace when considering how easy it would be to shrug off the loss of Youkilis or Hamilton with a late round plug in. He gives you relative power, solid RBI production out of the middle of a front-heavy lineup, and can steal a bag when called on. Drew Stubbs' inclusion in the lineup makes this an unquestionable pickup out of a middle infield slot.

I'd be keeping Ethier, Phillips, Youkilis, Haren and Hamilton out of this group. and trade Ubaldo because theres no way he's going to reproduce how he started last season and someone will overvaluehim.

Of course Jimenez will be overvalued. You get what you pay for, after all, and this is a guy who never displayed more than mere glimpses of the talent he showed off all last year. Ubaldo won't start as well this year, but nobody will. He was an absolute freak the first half of last year. Saying that, he's still the best pitcher in the NL, and will continue to dominate a weak division on his own. He's a lock for top 5 production in Ks and ERA, and will easily give you a Chris Johnson-esque season out of your summer league (even when he does disappoint, his numbers will still drop him somewhere in the top 5).

Haren is far, far too lucky to be a keeper in any year, much less now that he stopped moving around. Has anyone actually seen the guy pitch over the last two years? His change is woeful, his fastball fades by the fifth inning, and the only reason he's looked impressive at all is due to the inept staff around him. He's Ricky Nolasco with longer hair... AT BEST. You can replace him with a third starter and still break even.

Best pitcher in the NL? When did the Phillies move to the AL? Or the Giants?

I have until 10 PM Sunday to decide...

I'm not necessarily fond of Ubaldo or Haren, to tell the truth, but I'm pretty sure all other top tier starters are going to be kept as well...

I could keep Ethier, Choo, Hamilton, Youk, and Phillips... fuck pitching?

With hidden keepers like we do, it's pretty hard to decide.

I notoriously try to avoid AL pitching at all costs, and try to find NL pitchers in decent pitching parks... I could just go that strategy and try to field a staff of people like Lilly and Hudson again. Had success with it last year.

Urrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrg.

I wouldn't keep 3 OF and drop all my pitching. OF is one of the deepest positions out there, you shouldn't have too much trouble plugging one of those spots.

Decided to keep Phillips over Haren. Haren fucked me with his ballooning ERA in the first half last year, and Phillips is a solid 20/20 guy at worst... with upside...

I'll post my draft results for lulz later tonight.

For a 16 team league, it's a decently balanced lineup!!

IMO!

Montero? Sanchez?

You let the best bat on your entire team go for Rajai Davis?

Headley won't see the breakout season everyone in SD is praying for without lineup protection (and he has none), and he'll be splitting time with Bartlett at 3rd when they fall fifteen games under .500 and realize that Evereth Cabrera is a big, big piece of their future.

Billingsley is the 4th best fantasy pitcher on the Dodgers, and you let their best fantasy starter go in favor of Cole (I promise, I'm not that bad) Hamels.

The only reason I won't knock you for Vlad is because I know you got him dirt cheap anyway.

You fail to include in your analysis that Chase Headley is easily Keith Hernandez' favorite current Padre name to say.

Frankly I expected better.

I noticed no Andre Dawson on this list clearly that is an oversight.
