View Full Version : television is a tool of satan
Okay
I was just unfortunately watching this global corporate television network known as MTV...
I also happened to witness one of its famous "videos."
This video happened to include a somewhat "popular" figure by the name of Britney Spears.
In this said video, she is sad, goes in a tub, slits her wrists, and then has a life-flashing experience involving some sort of techno hospital.
Unfortunately, at the end of this heinous video, it turns out she really hasn't comitted suicide.
This made me very upset, and I need some comfort in knowing that Britney Spears, is in fact, still alive.

I try to live by the theory that anything played on MTV automatically sucks, as in the case you described above. Every once in a great while, they discover something worthwhile. However, it never truly gets much airplay.
What I find even more disturbing is the fact that MTV2 was created to play all music videos, and even that is being taken over by replays of The Osbournes, Road Rules, Real World, Diary, and any other crappy show they can think of.
Bring back MTVX, where they played all rock videos.
And do yourself a big favor, stop discovoring your music through MTV. Do your own research, there are a lot of great bands out there that get no recognition.

What really pisses me off about MTV is what it did to rock acts. You can't make it big unless you have videos now, and you can't get play for your videos unless you're a model type who can dance some.
I can think of a lot of kickass 70s groups who wouldn't have had careers at all if they'd come up 10 years later.
MTV is the new one eyed monster.
Mostly bullshit show's, video's and music now. Way downhill.

Haven't been watching lately, have you? The name changed to Fuse. Unless that was just in the U.S.?

Avril was on Much Music. She was cute.
VH1's Insomniac Theater (as of about 3-4 years ago, when I didn't have anything better to do) had kickass videos.

Avril sucks.
MTV has had some cool shows (Daria!) but unfortunately keeps running losers like "Real World Season 20934823" and "Punked v. Real World v. Road Rules v. Jack Osbourne v. Britney Spears: The Flaming Pits of Cellulite."
At least they no longer air "The Grind," which also sucked, and the show I can't remember the name of where the people who broke up duked it out in a fake court.

Actually, I think she could be very cute, if she didn't have this "Oh, I'm so angsty that I'll wear my hair like a curtainface and wear lots of dark eye makeup to communicate my angst. I'm also so not into fashion that I'll wear a necktie with a tshirt and $700 Prada cargo pants to show how un-into fashion I am."
Honestly.

I guess I don't analyze that much. :) But if I did, I'd agree with you, I'm sure.

She's definately trying to be the anti-pop, yet can't even pronounce David Bowie's name right, though he's supposedly one of her influences.
I heard she knows nothing about punk, that's just the image the record company packed her all up in. After all, none of her songs (I don't think?) are very punk at all.
Unless you consider spelling "Skater Boy" as "Sk8r Boi" punk.

If anyone considers Avril punk, they need to die a slow, horrible death.

She's not punk..and she's as packaged as Britney, only as the anti-Britney..Sad actually.
She was pretty decent when she came out, but nothing too fantastic.

Pretty much all of them, wouldn't you say? Nah. Take the Bee Gees. Women were creaming over Barry Gibb then, they'd have done it 10 years later. Pretty much any 70s group that had lookers and dancers would've cut it.
Heart came to mind when I wrote that. Nancy Wilson's got a hell of a set of pipes, they had a bunch of hits, but ain't no one would've put her face on a video even if she dropped 100 lbs.
