View Full Version : Will Droughtman's Maze Tickets All Be Sold?

Simple question, but I am curious what people think.

Fallen

FWIW, I think they'll all sell. You'll see a wave effect as people see that upcoming runs are available and sign up. The only thing that might impact the results is if enough people win their runs, and therefore decide not to do another as they cannot win again.

I signed up for three, if I can make that money back, I'll do more. It's a long run, but I bet they'll all sell eventually if good stuff keeps dropping.

The only way they all sell is if those of you with the $ buy all the last batches up. In turn you sell the items and make your money back and possibly then some. So, it's an investment and if you have the patience and up front cash, you can do it. These will not sell out if the Nuadjha's, Droit's and Virilneus' of Gemstone stop buying them all up. That's what they're counting on.

For what it's worth I hope they do sell em all... good for simu, and good for the players with 1000 new neato items floating around. I'm a fan of cool stuff becoming available. It's not an investment for me, after all, this is a game, so I don't really worry too much about devaluation. Just like to see more nice stuff.

I only signed up for three!

I signed up for 6 runs, and have done 3 so far. I've got a splitting War Hammer, which if I sold would likely cover half my tickets at a minimum, a cauldron, which would cover 2ish, and my armor, which is currently going for 6 mill, so that is a bit over 1 ticket. I'm definitely in it to get items I can personally use, as opposed to resale. I'm only selling the armor because I don't think I can trade it to get anything want. That's the reason I haven't put the splitter up for sale, as I can likely get something I can use for it in trade.

What i'm trying? to say is that so far, I am well above the "break even" point. I would imagine most that have signed up would find themselves at the same place should they sell their items. I too want as many of these items in the economy as possible. Everyone likes new toys to play with, don't they?

I think a few runs with lower tier items will kabosh ticket sales.

I've signed up for 3 myself, and my first was fun, but due to a blocker who loved leaving us in RT and limbless, wasn't a great time, and a decent prize for sure but not anything i could use.

100 runs is ambitious for sure. I wish them the very best, as I know how hard it is to design and execute this.

I guess this is the sort of thing I was referring to when I said investment. People on early runs are going to make most, if not more than all, of their money back. If not in actual cash, at least in value.

How many sets of 6x ASG changing/color changing armor can the economy absorb before either their value drops or the demand for them drops as sellers won't come down off their prices?

I am perfectly okay with this. If Virilneus (sorry to keep using your name but you are a perfect example) had either not been as fortunate or had more runs toward the end, would he have made his money back on these items? Quite possibly given time but probably not this month. 14 runs, I believe? That's excessive but he's already paid for them! Congrats, by the way.

In the end, I love this event for the reason most have said so far. All the new candy is outstanding. Thank you, Sirina. To the hoarders who've had similar stuff lockered for a decade hoping to make a big payday on similar items, I won't say I am sorry....you've got better collecting dust no doubt.

I've bought five, as one of three gifts to myself for my 30th birthday. Seeing that in print makes me feel weird... Five tickets to a make-believe game for an adult birthday. At least the other two gifts are more adult, opera tickets and a pair of tattoos. ANYWAY!

I may break down and buy more because it IS addictive. One of my accounts already won a round so that's a sixth run right there. I haven't decided whether or not to try to win with my other account (I want that goddamn airship!) but we'll see.

I think it'll sell out eventually. We're nothing if not compulsive about this game.

Drakefang
03-10-2011, 12:17 PM
I'd like to add, that if I'd gotten something of significance on my first run I would not have bought a second ticket. Seeing the items released so far, I was beyond disappointed with my scripted altar. Seeing the other 11 runs worth of items won so far, these are pretty much the shittiest item released. The juggling balls are neater and more singular, giving them more value. I don't even want to start on mechanics. Etc. Etc. Yada Yada.

Sorry, it really does suck walking away with one of the bottom five or six items won so far. So, yes, I was motivated to buy another as a gamble even with a semi-final run left. I know one thing, I would hope those semi-final/final rounds are drawing from a better treasure hopper. I kind of doubt it, though. Blink tickets should not have been a first round drop. They were because it creates sales.

That altar netted you your ticket price back, so you can't be that disappointed.

I've signed up for 3 runs so far. $90 bucks is still less than the price I paid for the FP and EG auction tickets in the past. I might do a few more later on, we'll see.

gs4-relvar
03-10-2011, 12:43 PM
Yeah, I too am thinking that possibly the winner of the round has a slight increased chance to pull high tier items and semi-finals and finals will also pull higher end items with more chance.

Wouldn't it be nuts if we still haven't really seen the good stuff?

I got 3 tickets in total. I was hoping to win the first so I could relax and make more silvers on the other two. That worked out so we'll see what items I get on these other runs.

Overall, the maze was cool.

That altar netted you your ticket price back, so you can't be that disappointed.

I can't be? When people, more than one a run, are making out like highway robbers? I am disappointed that I did not better my character or accounts by buying this event ticket. Does that make more sense? I have no doubt that some players would prefer my altar over their 5x flaring altered named and scabbarded weapon. I can surely be quite disappointed mechanically, though. Which is significantly more important to me than an altar I might use once or twice then locker.

I did have fun playing blocker for Relvar's round with Fremie and Eoghain. I managed to kill everyone several times and didn't die once (somehow.)

Eoghain was blowing people up left and right and we all got pulled into the same room once every few minutes causing mass chaos/death. This seemed to happen much more than in other rounds I had watched.

It was a bit annoying though, no paladin spell over level 10 worked at all. The exception being beseech.

So, I had to try to feint/attack people instead of running around throwing 1615 (our main offensive spell) I guess that would have been a bit overpowered?

Overall though, it was a good time.

I think most of the tickets will sell. I've still yet to buy one, but I may crack and do it soon.

Before I signed up, I knew I was going to get hosed when it came to prizes. There wasn't a doubt in my mind that I was going to win a dress of some sort. When I did pull that dress, my computer basically blew up with all the ROFL-esque IMs I got.

With that said, I am doing two more runs. Not because I think I'll have a better chance, but because of the GOA's I got to pay for them.

I tend to think they aren't pity GOA's, but instead the gift giver is secretly wanting me to pull two more gowns... which in all likelihood I will end up doing.

:(

03-10-2011, 01:21 PM
Was it a Nalea or the unlocked metallic that you won? A Nalea would be worth the ROFL IMs you got. Also, are they really Nalea's or Yfane's at this point?

Could be worse, you could have gotten a scripted greatcloak at Foehn's Promise. That happened to me.

Could be worse, you could have gotten a scripted greatcloak at Foehn's Promise. That happened to me.

Hah, but see that's the thing too. It's a matter of opinion. How scripted was the cloak? Was it max deepened and lightened? I'd take the greatcloak.

The only thing so far that I'd point to and cringe at the thought of winning were the fireworks press and the incense garbage. No one should have put this sort of item into that treasure hopper. I actually thought the Yansio wardrobe was one of the nicer items won so far that beat out several of the mechanically advantageous wins.

It's actually a fully unlocked Peretta, which is on par with a Nalea for scripting, but I prefer them far more for the customization you can do with the scripts as well as how the scripts differ depending on whether you're standing, kneeling, sitting, or lying down. It also seems to be far easier to alter.

The idea behind not being disappointed is that the silvers were worth more than your ticket. You could sell the silvers, then buy another ticket. Even if you don't sell the silvers, you could use them to purchase an item you do want. I've already purchased three items. It's all gravy.

I signed up for two because I didn't figure I'd win the first time because I suck at figuring things out like require a lot of memorization (ADD, wooo) but my running around aimlessly like a chicken with my head cut off did the trick. I figured if I didn't advance either of those two rounds I'd prob buy a ticket next month because my odds of advancing would go up because the people that really want to advance will be getting weeded out.

This is the same reason I believe that it won't sell out completely. Those that just care about advancing will be satisfied once they've won and also got a good prize. There just aren't enough players to fill the slots unless they get a ton of repeating buyers. The repeated buyers I feel will try to get earlier tickets for their items they're hoping to resell before the market gets flooded with "nicer" items.

I understand the process of having random prizes (which the conspiracy theorist in me still thinks that the early pulls were rigged to try to garner hype) but I think it'll kill the chance of anyone honestly trying to get something nice for their personal character. I'm pretty open minded when it comes to prizes, like I'd try to make anything I could work for my character, but my heart sank when I pulled 5x brig (being a wizard) and knew there was pretty much nothing I could do with it then sell it. I didn't even have friends that wanted it that I could give to.

Anyway, ranting about my brig aside. My vote is no, they will not sell all the tickets because the supply vs demand I feel will drastically decrease in about 2-3 weeks.

Things we've not seen yet:

1. Deeds
2. Fusion arms or orbs (both of which are supposed to be in there).

If they tossed in fusion items with more than 2 slots, those will have a lot of value.

Then there are things like my black ora bracelet which was a complete surprise. I think it is likely we will see more things from the previous EG auctions, perhaps even another string.

I suspect they will all sell eventually. I only planned to do two runs with friends just for the fun of it but having done one I immediately signed for a second on that account because (a) I now have a better idea of what to do, (2) I pulled a weak prize, and (iii) it's fun and surprisingly addictive! I'm pretty sure I'll sign up for a second run on the other account too after she's done her run.

I'm going to run at least until I win, and maybe more if I have time. Got cash to burn, but I promised myself I would never spend $$ on in-game stuff unless it was through paying for Simu events. Having done two runs, I'm averaging over 2 million silvers per run, in addition to the prizes. That alone pays for half the cost of the run. Conversely, Karly, who won a run I was in, netted a mere 40k in silvers. I suppose part of that comes down to when you find a golden key. I didn't find a key till late, and until that point I was pulling ropes as fast as I could. When I did find a key, I stopped pulling ropes. All that said, one way to look at it is that by making bank on the silvers, you could pay for additional runs.

Wow last time I looked there had to be 60 tickets still open for Droughtman's. Kinda makes you think someone just got their tax refund in and decided to have some fun with it.

I have done 2 runs and have one more to go, I would have bought 20 but as I spend more time in Plat these days then Prime... I'm saving my insane amount of runs for over there. Sadly Plat doesn't get Droughtman's till the end of the year, so I got to wait.

(and with work I never got a chance to do one of the 5 beta testing runs)

I bought 9 total and get another for semi-finals. I just reopened an account (Jandue) and placed some of the runs there to try to get another semi-final run.

The potential for high end items is very alluring. Many/most of these items I'd likely never get a chance to purchase in game so for me this is a rare opportunity to get some cool stuff.

I haven't gotten anything yet that really fits my character (other than the lockpick I bought off someone else), but since I have at least 7 runs left there's still a good chance.
