So I've noticed two issues with monster DS when they turtle:

First issue is when I amputate a limb of a shelfae, even if it's a leg and they fall, their DS goes up as if they were immediately placed into stance defensive -- even though they were stunned:

>at
You swing a glaes-tipped steel claidhmore at a shelfae soldier!
AS: +102 vs DS: +32 with AvD: +30 + d100 roll: +38 = +138
... and hit for 49 points of damage!
Right leg ripped from socket at the knee!
A shelfae soldier screams and falls to the ground grasping its mangled right leg!
The shelfae soldier is stunned!
Roundtime: 6 sec.

You swing a glaes-tipped steel claidhmore at a shelfae soldier!
AS: +102 vs DS: +52 with AvD: +30 + d100 roll: +37 = +117
... and hit for 19 points of damage!
Right elbow smashed into a thousand pieces.
Roundtime: 6 sec.

You swing a glaes-tipped steel claidhmore at a shelfae soldier!
AS: +102 vs DS: +50 with AvD: +30 + d100 roll: +20 = +102

A feeble blow to the shelfae soldier's left arm!
Roundtime: 6 sec.

You swing a glaes-tipped steel claidhmore at a shelfae soldier!
AS: +87 vs DS: +32 with AvD: +30 + d100 roll: +89 = +174
... and hit for 62 points of damage!
Hard slash to the shelfae soldier's side!
Left arm no longer available for use.
The shelfae soldier is stunned!
Roundtime: 6 sec.

...wait 1 seconds.
R>at
You swing a glaes-tipped steel claidhmore at a shelfae soldier!
AS: +87 vs DS: +94 with AvD: +30 + d100 roll: +22 = +45
A clean miss.
Roundtime: 6 sec.

The other issue I've seen is when a monster decides to turtle up for a bit, but then later starts swinging at me again. I don't have a log of that one, but it goes something like this:

Monster attacks at full AS, let's say 100.
I attack back, its DS is around 50. I injure it.
Monster's next action is the turtling (i.e. not swinging).
I attack again, DS is now about 150.
Monster attacks, AS at 100 (or maybe 90 because I damaged it slightly), but definitely full offensive AS.
I immediate attack back, but the DS is still 150.

I've seen this across a multitude of different monsters, and it's not spells or the room changing, and it's definitely repeatable -- it happens without fail whenever a monster turtles and then starts swinging again.

Edit: here's a log:

You swing a glaes-tipped steel claidhmore at a shelfae soldier!
AS: +87 vs DS: +12 with AvD: +30 + d100 roll: +21 = +126
... and hit for 33 points of damage!
Crushing blow to head closes that eye for good.
Roundtime: 6 sec.
R>sign smit

You feel at full magical power again.

You evade the attack by inches!

A soldier glances about, its cold reptilian eyes showing no emotion.

AS: +82 vs DS: +113 with AvD: +27 + d100 roll: +28 = +24
A clean miss.
The soldier looks a little dubious about its situation.

Deft slash!
The shelfae soldier is spun around and hit hard in its lower back.
The shelfae soldier falls to the ground and dies.
Roundtime: 6 sec.

I noticed that too. It's seriously some bullshit.

I BUGged both in-game, if I hear anything I'll share it.

Those are some of the oldest creatures in the game and this is likely the cause of the buggyness. Chances of them being on the priority list to update to the new combat system probably won't happen soon.

Though they have said they are slowly updating the list of old creatures to the new system. So who knows when they'd get to it.

People surpass that level so fast now that it likely isn't exactly high on their priority list.

Didn't they start converting critters to the BCS prior to GSIV? I'm pretty sure we all know when they'll be converted at this point.

Oh, I agree they will eventually. I'm just saying I doubt updating a lvl 7 critter is really high on the priority list.
