Anyone else playing it?
I really don't like any of these companions, save for the crazy lyrium-veined two-handed weapon elf dude. He fucking pwns.

I played the demo and decided that was more than enough for me.

People give some details or somethin. I was looking at the website and the dont say much. Reviews are all over the place. Is this more like guild wars or WoW?

What carries over from the first game?

From what I gather, what carries over is the history and at least loosely the storyline. Otherwise, it's pretty different from what I gather. Gameplay isn't completely different but it was revamped.
I don't know if there is a single character that carries into it, yet. I want it, but am not prepared to buy it yet. I've just watched the previews and played the first game with much of the downloadable content.

The Dragon Age part of the title.. beyond that not much.

I guess that's good to find out before I play it. That's not quite how they try to market it, though. Is it that bad or just that different?

I played the demo like...six times...I might play it again tonight. I'm waiting for it to come in the mail from gamefly...however, since it just released I might be waiting for a bit. If I'm lucky, by the time I get it I'll have a decent tv. It is way to hard to read on this shitty old thing I pulled out of the garage.

I'd have to play the full game to say exactly, but judging from the combat in the demo it seems completely different. It seems less tactical and more button mashing than before. The story seems alright, has a really good pace to it.

The PC version allows you to use the old-style combat system, which is nice.

Yeah, the PC version is the only way to go.
The console versions control terribly.
I like the game so far. It's very tactical, even on hard. The combat is faster and flashier, and there's less walking around aimlessly bullshit than in Origins.
Things move fast, inventory is streamlined, there aren't 5 different kinds of potions/injury kits/runes... they kept it simple, seems to be really working.

Yes, but is it winning?

I bet it's winning while still in your underwear and before your first cup of coffee.

I'm a little sad that I'll have to upgrade to play it, but eh. I'll wait until an expansion and maybe an Ultimate Edition like Origins and just get a heavier duty laptop.

I'll get it when I'm bored with Rift, and if I am able to get my DA1 save fixed so I can actually beat it. (crashes when I zone into one of the last areas)

The combat and dialogue systems are better, but the inventory system sucks. I miss being able to completely outfit my companions. Having them look the same for the entire game is boring.

You don't get to outfit them? That sucks! How do they get upgraded? Mixing and matching was one of the best parts

They come with armor that covers all slots that can't be removed. The armor gets upgraded as they level up and you can find random enhancements for their armor in some shops. The only thing you can equip on companions are accessories (rings, belts, amulets) and weapons (although not in the case of 1 companion that I've found so far).

I'll probably start playing tonight. Yay Spring break!

Already mid break...sucks no TV to play it on. It hasn't come by Gamefly yet.
So, you can't change their weapons? That might piss me off. One of my favorite parts was giving them a ton of armor and weaponry to make them beasts. So...that kind of slants their poweress? Are they all slackasses now or are their clearly better companions than others?

You can still change their weapons.
All of the companions are pretty beastlike, but there's clear overlap with whatever class/spec you make Hawke.
Generally, the companion that matches whatever Hawke is will be far less useful for you.
I'm finding that you have to switch out pretty frequently, depending on what you're fighting. Blood mages are sick against anything that bleeds, not so much otherwise. Anders is great to have along in boss fights for healing, etc.

I've stuck with the same group the entire game. I'm on vacation this week so I've been playing a decent amount. I'm still bummed about my guys looking the same during the entire game, but it's still a great game.

Is it me, or was the original game a lot longer than this one?
