I have the whole collection of Calvin and Hobbes books. Started collecting them when it came out. I love everything about it. I can also laugh at stupid crap like that too without having it sway my opinion of all that is good about Calvin.

My fav far side reading moment was the one with the lady passed out in front of her bowl of soup with the eye staring up at her, and the moose head above her missing the eye... The reason is.. I was in like 7th grade reading a far side collection with my step bro during a church service and came to that one and suddenly burst out laughing and couldn't stop... my step brother and I got in so much shit for that... we were in tears laughing at it

I actually looked for the book "Hampster Huey and the Gooey Kablooie" and was sad when it did exist, but Watterson hadn't written/illustrated it, was just some ass trying to cash in. Far Side is better for outright make you laugh or go WTF stuff, but C&H is good on several levels.

I also admire Watterson (the cartoonist) for what he did to stand up for and protect his comic's integrity, even if some people say he was an elitist. I think those people are just angry that they can't go to the store to buy Calvin & Hobbes plushes and greeting cards.

But Far Side is an awesome comic, yes. It wins in the Absurd Humor category, and possibly the Actually-Laugh-Out-Loud category.
