Without a ranged character to use it, I'm putting up my Droughtman's prize.

a dark ruic short bow inlaid with tiny bleached bone skulls, 5x

You load a wand in the bow that corresponds with the flare you want, and then it adds that flare to your arrows. It does sometimes consume the arrow and/or wand, but not always (the last example shows it not consuming either). This one is fully unlocked and takes all four flare types. Examples below.

You fire a whalebone arrow at a cave gnome!
AS: +23 vs DS: -8 with AvD: +20 + d100 roll: +55 = +106
... and hit for 2 points of damage!
Tap to the arm pricks some interest but not much else.

** As your whalebone arrow hits a cave gnome, it gives off an electric shock! **
... 20 points of damage!
Heavy shock to left hand. Fingers go numb.
The cave gnome is stunned!

With a surge of magical power, a bolt of lightning streaks down the arrow, burning it to smoldering ash.

You fire a whalebone arrow at a cave gnome!
AS: +23 vs DS: -10 with AvD: +20 + d100 roll: +56 = +109
... and hit for 3 points of damage!
Tap to the arm pricks some interest but not much else.

** As your whalebone arrow hits a cave gnome, it emits a burst of flame! **
... 5 points of damage!
Minor burns to left eye. Foe blinks back the tears.

With a surge of magical power, a burst of flame races down the length of the arrow, consuming it entirely.

You fire a whalebone arrow at a giant rat!
AS: +23 vs DS: +12 with AvD: +20 + d100 roll: +82 = +113
... and hit for 4 points of damage!
Tap to the arm pricks some interest but not much else.

** As your whalebone arrow hits a giant rat, it sprays acid! **
... 25 points of damage!
Burn to the elbow eats through tendons. Muscles snap free!
The giant rat collapses to the ground, emits a final squeal, and dies.

With a surge of magical power, a blob of sickly green acid engulfs the arrow, consuming it entirely.

As you fire your ruic short bow, a rime of sparkling frost leaps from the weapon to the arrow, which pulses with a faint blue light.
You fire a whalebone arrow at a giant rat!
AS: +23 vs DS: -10 with AvD: +20 + d100 roll: +71 = +124
... and hit for 13 points of damage!
Well aimed shot almost removes an eye!

** As your whalebone arrow hits a giant rat, it gives off a cold blast! **
... 20 points of damage!
A gallant effort to elude the blast, but you got the giant rat in the hip!
The giant rat collapses to the ground, emits a final squeal, and dies.
Bad angle. The whalebone arrow fails to stick in a giant rat.
Roundtime: 5 sec.
R>
You feel at full magical power again.
>rub my bow
As you rub your hand along the length of your ruic short bow, a rime of sparkling frost follows in its wake.

I think these badboys are also further enchantable, if for some reason someone wanted to bother.

I'll put 2m on it. I've never had one, and it would be fun to try out with my gnome

How often does it flare?

And how many shots do you get per wand?

I believe, and this is based off when they were first released, that they always flare. There is a 50/50 chance for the entire arrow to poof upon flaring. You get a good several flares per wand. I don't recall how many, but it should be based off the total amount of waves in the wand. You get multiple flaring arrows per wave. May want to double check krakiipedia.

I went through my logs from the earlier testing, and it looks like it flared every time, and the wands lasted from 3-11 shots. I did a minimum of testing (I was just looking to see if all four types worked), and bought wands from the pawnshop, so maybe it's related to the number of charges on the wand? Maybe someone who's used one before knows for sure.

It is based off the number of waves. I thought it was more than one per wave, though. I could be wrong.

You can pre load a numerous amount of wands all at once of the same type till the point where the messaging gives you a dazzling glow. So long as this bow has an ample power supply, it will flare on every shot. You can even use imbedded ranger made wands and rods for a power source.

I have a wand bow, acid flaring one. All the info given is correct. Typically takes about 4 typical treasure system wands to fill my bow. At that point it says that the bow cannot take any more charges.

It can be enchanted as long as the bow is currently not loaded with wand charges.

Special effects on the arrows overrides the wand flares so if you have blessed arrows or ebladed arrows then it won't use the wand flare and won't consume your arrow.

The only downfall is it also means that in order to get the combined 10x you need to master fletch faewood arrows and they'll have a high chance to be consumed by the wand flares.
