I was curious as to what the official response was for bards not being able to form a sonic bow using the sonic weapon song?

I'm sure this has probably been brought up on numerous occassions but I'm still curious to know what the responses have been.

It's been brought up on the officials some. I'll be honest, the only reason I believe was given was that it then becomes a 12x weapon and the release of over 10x weapons was not intended via this spell or any spell. I may have the wording there partially wrong but that seemed like the response I heard.

12x = 7x bow + 5x master-fletched arrows

The issue could very well be the mechanical interaction between physical arrows and the sonic bow.

It's definitely one or the other of those reasons.

Bow enchant shouldn't matter. If you use a 7x bow and 5x arrows, it still caps at 10x. That's not to say it's not different for sonic bows, but it works that way for normal ones.

Yes but the silver cost of gaining a 7x bow can be a lot more intimidating/balancing than just casting 1012. Your assessment of being able to attain a 7x bow and 5x arrows is accurate but the balance of being able to sing one apparently is against their design goal.

The only valid reason that as been implicitly given is that it would simply take too long to code for not enough benefit to the community; presumably, all projects are triaged in a similar manner.

It's too bad in either case. How awesome would it be to walk around with a sonic bow? I'd be fine with it capping at 10X with the arrows. But, having a 7x sonic bow would be nice for the added defense as an archer.

A long while back I proposed they make the bow sonic, up to 7x as per usual, and use (1) standard ammo capped at 10x ETor (2) sonic ammo capable of standard (x2) sonic flares capped at 7x ET or perma-blessed vs undead but reducing the overall ET of the bow/missile to 2x for AS; the sonic ammo would cost 1-4 mana, based on training, per missile SUMMONed or CONJUREd or whatever verb.

Alternatively, they could use the 1009 slot for the bow and the 1012 slot for the arrows/bolts and charge 1-4 mana per 1012 renew.

Anyway, it won't ever happen; there is simply not enough return for the time investment. I would expect twc sonic weapons to happen before sonic bows, if ever.
