Polls are limited to 10 options, and there's 13 races, so 3 will be left out. If I left it out and you have an opinion on why it is the best race for a rogue, do tell.

Depends what you wanna do -- Stealthy, speedy, dagger-wielding assassin; Ranged sniper; E-waving bruiser; Master locksmith; or a well-rounded cookie-cutter type.
I would say half-elf in general because you get a combination of human and elf (durr).

just not a giant
Giants are excellent rogues

I agree that Half-elf rogues seem to be a good choice, if you're looking at straight mechanics.

I voted half-elves for mechanics reasons. Additionally, Half-krolvin make good combat rogues but are not listed.

Half-Krolvin have -10 logic bonus. That is a handicap relative to every other race, and therefore they will never be the "best" anything. Maybe I'm wrong.

Kinda looking at the idea of a a full-combat-rogue.

Oh, no one I suppose...
Credit Krakii:
The size of one's pool for unprocessed experience is determined by one's DIS and LOG stats. The formula is:
800 + LOG + DIS = Pool
Node:
Base rate - When on a node or in town, you will absorb an extra (Logic Bonus/5) experience every pulse.
In town off node:
Base rate - a number dictated by one's LOG stat, usually a few lower than the on-node base rate
Off node:
Base rate - you will absorb an extra (Logic Bonus/7) per pulse

Tell me WHY sylvankind are the best....
For the record, I still haven't voted... I'm surprised more didn't vote dark elf to this point, personally.

You want facts man?! I don't need no stinking facts!
Seriously tho, I am not speaking from a purely mechanics perspective. I enjoy the culture of the Sylvans as wood elves in exile. I believe they are a good choice for the jack of all trades rogue as are half-elves and humans. Sylvans also receive a large bonus to hide in forested areas which can be useful when hunting.
Shit, I don't have a convincing argument as to why I think they are the best. I just like Sylvans (wood elves). Always have, always will.

Since when do sylvans get a bonus to hiding?
Since when do sylvans get a bonus to hiding?
Different races get different hiding bonuses based on location.

I guess I just like halflings in general but here's things I like (roughly in order of importance to me):
Massive racial TD bonus
Huge AGIDEX for ambushing with THW or TWC
Some kind of dodge bonus against maneuvers
Racial stealth bonus
Great spirit regen rates
LOG mod bonus for exp absorption rates
DEX & INT both factor into picking/disarming
DEX mod provides weighting
Racial armor weight modifiers that help offset really low STR bonus
Of course the strength penalty sucks and that wrecks you with encumbrance. I think I've just gotten used to this as well as needing 509, 5 ranks of surge, and 100 STR to minimize composite bow RT. Or maybe that doesn't even quite minimize it, I forget. I've just moved on to acceptance. I don't really care about the loss of melee AS.

I'm not surprised that Halflings are voted second. However I am surprised there aren't more votes for Humans and Dark Elves...

I'd take a halfling any day of the week over this:

Elves... the neuter race. Not quite men, not quite women, just awkwardly in the middle somewhere.

Holy Fuck... ElfQuest! I haven't thought of those books since I was 12. Must. Find. Now.
You can find these online, free to read. Somehow I got hold of the site about a year or two ago. I no longer have the website myself, but an positive you can google it. They were some of my faves from 8th grade or something and I enjoyed rereading them. I had no idea the series was so long lived. Good luck tracking them down.
Nevermind, I found the site: http://www.elfquest.com/gallery/OnlineComics3.html

Strength and AGIDEX are the most important stat bonuses for rogues, and half-elves have the best blend of those in my opinion.
Training is much more important than stats though, I think. Except for the halfling/gnome strength penalties. The encumbrance is brutal and really fucks with squares.

Given the inherant cman penalties to the staple of rogue cmans that halflings receive, and the fact they are so short they cannot outright aim for the head on a lot of creatures is a serious problem I haven't seen anyone mention.
Their TD/Maneuver defense bonus is awesome though.

I don't find sweep to be that useful. Subdue is probably useful now if you have silent strike but otherwise I've only used it a couple of times in total. I find that dirt kick is a much better offensive cman (which I don't THINK halflings have a penalty to). I wish I'd tried hamstring to be able to speak on that.
I think the reach issue was the largest when halfling and gnomes were the only ones impacted by height (maybe dwarves too). It's still kind of a pain but if you leg something it's usually pretty disabled. It takes longer but strategically you're not in a bad spot.
I always thought it would be cool if there was a mechanic where you could hide, then execute AMBUSH POSITION HEAD or something which would put you in some RT in hiding and your character would maneuver such that they could reach the creature's head (by scrambling on top of pre-built structures or terrain).

This is like asking whether or not you agree with Roe v. Wade.
There's only one right answer, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a retard.

So, dwarf?
I voted for halfling. I don't think there's any way to say one race is best at a profession due to the many ways you could play the profession, so I just voted for my favorite. I do think they've got some excellent perks, which have already been mentioned.
The penalties can be avoided with certain training paths. As a crossbow user the inability to aim higher with melee is moot, and the strength penalty is little more than an inconvenience (encumbrance) since it doesn't effect the RT like it would with bows. I can't carry as much without being encumbered, so I just don't carry a lot of crap around with me. I don't bother with surge or 509.
The size penalties to some maneuvers are bad, so just avoid those maneuvers. Use kneebash instead of sweep if you really need to knock something over. With archery, I just shoot stuff in the eye as soon as I see it for the most part. I may dirtkick it first if I want it to be in roundtime.
I don't know if it's due to being a halfling and their stats (I never bother to crunch the numbers), but I'm amazed that I can pull off being very effective at combat as well as picking/disarming over my head and also have some spells on the side. It always seems people say there needs to be a trade-off somewhere. I guess those are the min/maxers talking. Is that what this poll is about? Oops.

Humons! Mainly because I like using CMANs and humans have good CON.

I have no reasoning behind it other than laziness, but all my rogues have been Dark Elves. I did roll up a Human and a Gnome that both made into their 30s without dieing once, though. I really don't think you can mess up a rogue build.
