View Full Version : Where has all the good music gone pt. 2
By request here's some more music recs (although not very timely). Feel free to post your own.
I mostly listen to "indie rock" and dancey electronica, if that sounds like shit to you then you probably won't like this stuff. As always on youtube remember to up the quality if you can.
Indie-ish stuff:
Radical Face - Welcome Home - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfbF44UeRBY
Boy & Bear - Mexican Mavis - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH9ifwkPZO4
The xx- Crystalised - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXY2EmuMLDg
Lydia - Stay Awake - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSRYo0vrNa8
Jonsi - Time to Pretend (MGMT Cover) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf6pqPFz2lY
The Middle East - Blood - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWlIEBPKl7M (Note: this song is depressing)
darwin deez - radar detector - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pbdLqTh_x4
Electronic stuff:
The Limousines - Internet Killed The Video Star - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zx5tSmOY_iM
Chiddy Bang feat. Ellie Goulding -Under The Sheets - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmeVttLvACg

This thread is relevant to my interests, but I really just want to annoy PBR with my avatar.

Radical Face - Welcome Home - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfbF44UeRBY --> Too much like a poor man's Iron & Wine for my taste.
Boy & Bear - Mexican Mavis - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH9ifwkPZO4--> Never heard of this group. Really liked it.
The xx- Crystalised - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXY2EmuMLDg--> Yup. The xx is good. They have been for a few years.
Lydia - Stay Awake - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSRYo0vrNa8--> Not my thing
Jonsi - Time to Pretend (MGMT Cover) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf6pqPFz2lY--> Not my thing, but more my thing than Lydia. I think I'm slightly biased by the MGMT version.
The Middle East - Blood - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWlIEBPKl7M (Note: this song is depressing)--> This song is fantastic. This group is amazing. I missed their concert when they opened for Mumford & Sons at Webster Hall last year, and I've always regretted it.
darwin deez - radar detector - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pbdLqTh_x4--> Holy shit, this video is hysterical. Song is meh, but if this guy is sincere about that look, then I can appreciate it.
Electronic stuff:
The Limousines - Internet Killed The Video Star - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zx5tSmOY_iM--> Nah.
Chiddy Bang feat. Ellie Goulding -Under The Sheets - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmeVttLvACg--> Ellie is hot. Chiddy is awesome. Xaphoon's mixes are smooth as always. Nice track.
Passion Pit - The Reeling (remix by Bubblegum Scifi) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPSMIg8-w40--> Insane remix. Haven't heard this one yet. This got more than one replay. The drop gets me.
Miike Snow - Silvia - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ub_ox8HSSOw--> Meh. Kind of boring I thought.
Rock stuff:
The Gaslight Anthem - The Patient Ferris Wheel - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCN_Potbuf0--> Not my thing
Jimmy Eat World - My Best Theory - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPlq4BG_mCA--> Props to these guys for their longevity. That's about it.
We Were Promised Jetpacks - Quiet Little Voices - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5ZhBAylbN4--> I liked this one. Usually this style isn't my thing, but it's original enough that it kept my attention.
Comments added. Some good songs on here, Drew. Some stuff I'd never heard before. Thanks for the recs!

Yeah that Passion Pit remix has been in heavy rotation for a long time, I can't not get pumped listening to it.

Awesome picks, Drew.
Miike Snow - Silvia - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ub_ox8HSSOw--> Meh. Kind of boring I thought.
I agree. That's not one of Miike Snow's better songs. Their album is really good, though. Everyone knows Animal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVWeqAPQUXc), but check out Billie Holiday (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6qOvhkXrHI) or Plastic Jungle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3HWTggVxVk).
Some ""Indie"" picks of my own (Drew, you forgot to add the extra quotation marks to indicate irony):
Beirut - Postcards From Italy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X61BVv6pLtw)
Man Man - Van Helsing Boombox (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-E96HDW7mI)
Elizabeth & The Catapult - Momma's Boy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNJmRO4nyG8)
Islands - Creeper (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEg7S7Z8VsU)
Devil Makes Three - Old Number 7 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNJowyYkoOs) and Plank (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=talqltbOsNU&feature=related) and Ten Feet Tall (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fE4zdYtHJG0&feature=related) (I love this band)
The Lemons - Harai Durtai (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0xK_hIAGg0)
You Can Be A Wesley - Rearrange the Sea (http://download.youcanbeawesley.com/track/rearrange-the-sea)
I've found it really difficult to find new Indie bands that I can wholly commit to, so a lot of these are a bit older.
darwin deez - radar detector - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pbdLqTh_x4--> Holy shit, this video is hysterical. Song is meh, but if this guy is sincere about that look, then I can appreciate it.
That guy went to college with MGMT and he definitely owns that look, for better or worse.
Awesome picks, Drew.

Damnit, I knew I was doing something lame.

I download about 125-150 new tracks a month (which is actually a lot less than I used to) but I've generally found the same thing. I think you just like less stuff as you get older (but for some reason I fucking loved that Like A G6 song. WTF????). I was looking at my itunes and I noticed that in 2010 I marked half as many songs 3 stars or better than I did in 2009. I'll check out your stuff later but I already know I'll like the Beirut song; I love that he does everything on the track himself.
