This is Alice.

Alice is a six year old pit bull who has spent almost her entire life trapped inside this 5x8x4 box.

Alice had never had dog chow until being found by an animal rescue group. For six years, Alice ate bread and honey buns which were dropped from the mesh on top of her cage onto this floor encrusted with six years accumulation of feces and urine.

This was Alice's water dish.

Alice was locked away as a puppy because she was one of those "very mean kinda dogs." In all her life, Alice has never had the opportunity to play, or to be petted, or to simply lay in the grass on a sunny day. The Southern Comfort Animal Rescue group is trying to have Alice removed from her owners but are stymied by the legal system. The local sheriff tried to file charges but the judge said he would throw out any charges of animal cruelty.
Since being found, Alice's owners have put her into a chain link run which was donated by the rescue group, but she still lacks socialization, had no water when the rescue group returned to check on her, and in general is still neglected.
I really don't go in for the whole online petition thing very frequently, but in this case, I am just so appalled that nobody capable of taking action to help this poor dog is willing to do so.

That is horrific. I had to hug my pit bull. And Alice is a gorgeous color.

It boggles my mind that people do shit like this to dogs, and for absolutely no good reason. Sad :(

I want a pit bull so freakin' bad and people who don't even care about the breed, or any dog for that matter, make me so angry.

Seriously. If you don't want the dog give it up to a shelter, even putting it down is better than torturing the poor thing.

What kind of retard is the judge who said he'd throw this case out as not animal cruelty? Usually once the sheriff agrees with you, you win.
This sickened me. Poor dog. :(

Exactly. It's just hard for me to wrap my mind around why animal abusers even get their "pets" in the first place. What's the point in buying/getting an animal only to completely abuse, neglect, and ignore it.. and never experience the simple pleasures and joys that come with being a responsible pet owner? Coming home to see my dog excited and happy to see me and wanting to snuggle and play with me is one of the best parts of my day.

I was wondering that also, but I think I've found the answer, at least in Alice's case. It appears that Alice has been used for breeding. Her owner says "A couple of times," but there's speculation she's been bred pretty frequently. They think that the reason the owner won't surrender her is because they plan on breeding her more.

I petition to throw the owner in the box, with the same living conditions. I'd say breed the POS too, over and over, but the world has enough stupid people in it.
Poor dog. Makes me so mad when I hear about things like this.

Since being found, Alice's owners have...
That's as far as I got.
In the UK Alice's owners would have plenty of time to think about the mistreatment of animals as they would be in the clink. Alice would be adopted by some kindly person and live happily ever after.

If the local law won't do anything, someone should steal it away in the night. Or put her to sleep to end the misery.

I want to know where exactly in Toombs county this is. We have a family farm out there, but I don't know if it's being used or not. Someone should do some research and this dog might have a 1500 acre farm to run all over.

That area is very close to where I grew up. I know a lot of people out there. I just shot off a few e-mails to connected people to see if they'd be able to provide better insight into what is actually going on. We'll see.

Best of luck. I'm actually adopting a dog this friday... well, we are meeting the dog and if it all goes well, then we'll take her home. This will be my... I think my fourth shelter or rescue dog. I need to dig out all of my dog stuff from when I was swearing I'd never own another pet.

Heh. I got a dog through PAWS. They are kinda anal about who they let adopt, but they provide a tracking microchip, incase it ever runs away or gets stolen, they spay or neuter it, and they do all the shots. If it needs any extra shots, they'll give you certificates to get it done at a local vet. I'd recommend them. Best of luck with your puppy. May you have one that doesn't eat everything.

I adopted a rescued pit. He takes a little extra attention (he'll eat your dog) but he's the most loyal and loving dog I've ever met. This breed is sorely misunderstood.

Step one get a box
Step two cut a hole in the box
Step three put your pit in the box

Your dog looks sweet, Ross.
My family has always adopted strays or from shelters, we adopted a golden retriever when I was 8 that had been chained up outside through MA winters and never shown a bit of love. She was the sweetest dog I have ever known. I volunteer 2 days a week for a local cat rescue here in Nashville and I can't begin to describe the atrocities I have seen. We recently brought a kitten in that had her ear folded back and superglued to her head. We worked on it for six hours and despite all of our care she lost part of the ear.
I truly believe that there is a special hell for people who are cruel to animals. There is absolutely no possible reason or excuse for it. To have a judge flatly state that he'll throw it out of court is beyond ridiculous and it boils my blood that he could see the treatment that poor dog has suffered and not care.
I'll definitely sign that petition, please keep us updated if anything happens.

My dog was a rescue, too. He's a German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix. People are getting so crazy about dog breeds, we almost weren't allowed to have him in our apartment complex because even Huskies are labeled as "dangerous" breeds.
I hope somebody is able to help Alice. It breaks my heart that people do this to living things.
