Plate AsG - when is one better than another?

My main is in a 4x Fairly Damage Padded MBP. The armor rocks. It and redux have saved his ass so many times, it isn't even funny.

What I am wondering is, at what point does it become advantageous to upgrade to higher AsG plate class armors? He has enough armor training to easily be in an augmented BP by now, and nearly Half Plate.

But, given the damage padding, would standard 4x half plate be better?

I've said many times that the biggest advantage of full plate vs partial plate is availability. There are 10x more great sets of full plate out there and 100x more sets of good full plate out there, than there are of partial plate armors.

Regardless of whether or not you decide to change AsG, you should look for better plate. You can do a lot better than "fair" padding.

Kerl is right, and there really are a lot of nice sets of plate out there. Not much in MBP.

My Paladin is in 4x heavy damage padded augmented breastplate with damage padded leg greaves, and it's much better than his last armor: fairly damage padded mbp.

I've been told that plate arm and head coverage is an important milestone, because wounds to the arms and head can end your hunt early. I've already got a set of full plate waiting for my Paladin: 5x somewhat crit padded, spiked, lightened full plate. I just need to hunt some more (note to self: HUNT!)

Mechanically, taking redux into account, and comparing like to like, there is not a heck of a lot of practical difference between MBP and full plate. With that in mind, if what Kerl and Drew say is true (and I have no reason to doubt them), it makes more sense to look for full plate.

Regarding your specific question, you are probably much better off with fair padded MBP than plain half plate.

also good full plate is probably cheaper than good mbp. EVERYbody wants mbp, and they'll outbid you in a auction. Mostly only Paladins and Warriors want full plate.
