"What on Elanith is Droughtman's Challenge?" you ask!
Droughtman himself has answers:
"If you dare to accept my call, you'll enter my Maze as one of ten contestants whose task is simple, yet as twisted as the very walls that surround you! Abandoning all your supplies, you'll be given a survival kit containing a random melee weapon, a random ranged weapon and ammunition, a random piece of armor, a random shield, some acantha leaf, and a mysterious wand (No licking or eating the wands! The Management is not responsible for any injuries!)
"Into the Maze you'll go, seeking your way to the White Door. Along the way, you'll find several colored doors. When you start your journey, some will block your path and others will be wide open, at least until someone pulls one of the many colored levers you'll find around the Maze! Some levers will open doors that were closed! Some levers will close doors that were open! Some levers will not only open some doors, but also close others, too! But remember, while you're pulling levers trying to open the right doors that lead you to glory, nine other people are doing the same thing! Strategy and cunning are key!
"Key? I almost forgot! To get through the White Door, you'll need to find a golden key. In various places throughout the Maze, you'll find ropes dangling from the ceiling. Give one a pull, if you feel lucky, and you just might get a key! Then again, who knows what else might happen!
"One important word! Death is but an inconvenience here, since dying will merely move you back to the beginning of the maze. In truth, victory will likely favor the fleet of foot and nimble of mind, although I'm sure that the strong of body will do everything they can to slow them down!
"Everyone will be on equal footing inside the maze. There are no special advantages for the old and powerful, just as there are none for the young and weak! There's no society powers, no magic spells, and no combat maneuvers allowed inside the maze!
"This is a Challenge worthy of true Champions and Heroes as the gods truly intended... skill, cunning, and brains are just as important (if not more-so) as brute force."
So what it is that makes all this worth while?
EVERYONE WINS!
That's right! Everyone who steps up and accepts the challenge will win. No one will walk away empty handed! When each Challenge is over, everyone gets to select a prize from my hoard of wonders and delights! The prizes will range from simple to elaborate, magical to mundane, uncommon to VERY rare!
"What sort of prizes are you talking about, you might ask? Well, good people, I've made some deals and filled my wagon with prizes from dozens of merchants and shops across the lands, some of whom you've not seen in years! Gowns from Yfane, Shade-skinks from Ilixil, forehead gems, fusion arms and orbs, writeable books, siegery miniatures, weapon bandoliers, immolation weapons, morphing armor, entwined wands, dice of fate, permablessed weapons, and much much more! Enhancives, magic items, superior weapons and armor, tickets for upcoming festivals, and coveted trinkets from days gone by."
THERE'S OVER ONE THOUSAND PRIZES WAITING TO BE CLAIMED!
"But some prizes boxes are even more special! A few lucky folks will get my specially commissioned Grab-Bags, filled to capacity with prizes for the Paladin, wares for the Wizard, baubles for the Bard, riches for the Rogue, surprises for the Sorcerer! We've got special Grab-Bags just waiting to be found for members of each class, not to mention a few things that would suit any aspiring Lord or Lady!"
Winners of the first round will automatically move to Round Two where again, all the participants will walk away with ANOTHER PRIZE!
Winners from Round Two move to the Finals, where once again, everyone gets a prize, but the WINNER of the final round wins so much more!
THEY WIN THE GRAND PRIZE PACKAGE!!
Including:
A specially designed airship (traveling private property)
A special prize package of Fusion Arms and Orbs
A special item from Droughtman
Glory, Fortune, Joy, and Fame!
There will also be Observation Decks allowing people to watch and place bets on the winners of each run! This way, those of you who are scared and want to see what it's like before entering can watch and work up your strategy (and your nerve!), or you can just sit around and place bets and have fun that way, too!
Lose your first time through? Want to try again? SIGN UP FOR ANOTHER TICKET! ENTER AS OFTEN AS YOU LIKE! That's right! You'll get another prize, too! Yes, you can sign up for as many runs through the maze as you want in advance! (Note: Once you've won one round and been qualified for the semi-finals, you are ineligible to win a second time. You can still run the maze and win a prize though!)

^^^
Yeah, that.
I'm on the fence about this. It basically comes down to, get a purportedly nice item (minimum) or save my money because my interest in a maze quest is beyond low. I'll probably cave, do it once, check out the quality of the random prize item I get. Then if it sucks, I'd kick myself and not buy more. If the item is ridonculous, then off I race to buy more tickets.
Fuckers, they should just let us pay $30 to reach into a goddamn grab bag for a 1st tier prize. It would take a lot less resources and get them back to working on shit that actually matters. However, I grasp that some/many will be excited about racing through a maze and pwning.

Well by the sound of it, you can just plop down $30 bucks for each run, skip the contest and nab your prize when it's over.
Just asked on the officials since the flavor text of the description is somewhat misleading; the prizes are infact random. You don't get to choose.
The expected return on investment here is going to be pretty heavily dependent on how many actual nice items are in there versus the fodder. With 1,000 prizes going out - how many are really bandoliers, forehead gems, entwined wands, immolators versus the 35k pawnshop fodder?

I'm probably not even going to be signing up, but it sounds like there can be a huge amount of potential to grief contestants. Any kind of collusion and a couple people could probably set up a choke point and insta-gib other players back to the start while the front runner makes a bee line toward the white door.

http://web.archive.org/web/20080620005208/http://www.smelly-cat.org/droughtman.html
I actually found that log kinda lame.
If you're doing something IC, you don't say "Hey, by the way, we're IC."
I've done tons of shit and if I did it for IC reasons if a GM pops down I don't stop the RP, I keep doing it.
That log... the PCs kept switching IC to OOC, back and forth...
The GM, also, very uncreative. Coulda had some good fun there. If I was a GM I woulda tossed them all in a prison, brought them out one by one for a little torture, confiscated all winnings of course, then given each an RPA while banning them from the maze for life (assuming they hadn't said something stupid like "We just did an IC plot.").

Oh the GMs have said multiple times along the lines of "You might get unlucky and not get a weapon you have skill to use." So I'm pretty sure skill matters. And a postcap warrior trained in multiple weapon types is going to have the best odds. Of course, a runestaff pure is guaranteed to be unlucky, because we can use nothing they might provide.

What are you guys thinking about in terms of timing?
Advantage to going in the earlier runs is you're more likely to be up against people who are also trying to figure things out for the first time, putting everyone on an even playing field.
Advantage to going in the later runs is you can observe the earlier runs and try to gain a knowledge advantage BUT you have a greater risk of being up against people in their second or third runs who have a much bigger advantage.
I would think earlier runs would be the answer but not the first. As long as you can watch 1-2 first you'll probably gain all the info you need. Watching more after that probably won't be too helpful.

If it makes you feel better, Kerl will not ever swing a sword in combat. So if he randomly ends up with a sword of any size or type and it's needed to kill, and killing is needed to win, he will lose.

It would seem to me that bards would have the advantage since they can sing armor, weapon and shield of choice. without kowing how they are going to equalize players on a level by level basis its hard to make a real call though.

After reading all the responses from NIR's on the officials, I am surprised that everyone thinks that the person who can kill the most will win. They say repeatedly it'll be a level playing field, and it takes longer to try to kill someone than it does for that person to run away. The wands sounds like the equalizer. I think the largest advantage to win would be they with the fastest hands/ nice macros.
But, prizes are given out regardless. What I wonder is, if there is x amout of prizes, what percentage are 'mundane?" And if it makes up a majority, wouldn't attendees toward the middle/end have a better chance of winning a nicer item?

Can't use spells, or spellsongs. Technically I think a brawler would have the most advantage, since you can't take fists away. And without armor and with crappy DS's, a fist might be all you need.

It isn't that the person who can be killed the most will win, or even that the person who dies the most won't win. It is that being killed can't possibly be a benefit so, on average, your chance of winning will go down with every death. It doesn't mean it is impossible. There will always be outliers and exceptions, but on the whole the probable outcome will favor those who cannot be killed.
I wonder if they're turning dfredux off as well? Unless the wands are based on CS or something, squares, especially warriors, will definitely have the advantage.
On the prizes, statistically it doesn't matter if you go on a first round or a later round. You could, however, do something like counting cards in blackjack. If the first 30 people who play all get a top of the line prize, then you know that there are less left in the "deck" so to speak and your odds of getting one will have declined. If, however, the first 30 people have bad luck, then suddenly your odds will have increased.

I think with a pure, your strategy is to retreat away from any square who advances on you and not allow them to get close enough to engage you with their melee weapons...
Hrm...
What would be fair is if the random runestaff they have now agreed to provide is imbedded, using wave or point, with a random CS based attack spell. You might end up with 302 as a sorcerer or 702 as a cleric, but you'd have something.

I seem to remember the ropes or levers randomly messing with you but not releasing critters. (laughing gas, stuns, things like that). That said it was a long time ago when I ran in DR.

Winning a round gives you no better chance at a good prize than losing. It's hopper fed so you have the same chance at a good prize by buying 10 tickets as you do buying out an entire round. The only difference is you would have a guarantee of advancing to another round and having a "free" prize grab.

My thoughts are that, with 1000 items, you just can't expect them all to be great items. If that were the case, we'd have such a glut of good crap that it would be a total monty haul scene. A better way to look at it is to probably consider that the average item is probably worth more than 5 million silvers; some way more, some less.
They're going to want to make sure everyone feels that they got their money's worth between 2 hours of entertainment, and a grab bag item. That said, there will certainly be those who feel like they got the short end of the stick.

it isn't a fixed maze. being killed and sent to the beginning can be a benefit, since there may be more advantageous pathways open your second (or third, or forth) time through. and anyway, if you're going to try to balance pure/square in terms of combat, you'll sure as shit have to balance level too.

Ya, maybe it is possible that could happen, but as I said, an exception doesn't mean it isn't going to be a detriment to you most of the time.
Plus, fuck killing someone. Some square can limb you, tend you, and leave you unable to move around, but not dying. You may eventually die, minutes later. Basically no better than an RT lock. I suppose if you were col you might be able to suicide still to get out of it. I'm not sure if signs require hands. Surely being maimed is going to be pretty shitty, right? I mean, if you're supposed to be running around grabbing things?

Absolutely, when I've got no gear and magic is turned off, and then I'm told by dipshit gms and sycophant players that its a balanced system. At least I got them to give out runestaffs, so it'll take more than a level 15 square to off me.

Hugely level dependent. Level 1 character won round 1 in plat. Can't attack a level 1 in offensive, giving him time to wave the wand at the blockers who teamed up to take people out, blockers were all capped or near capped. Wander around aimlessly for hours. Ropes clustered together, some nice silvers made by a few from pulling the ropes.
Overall it was the worst event in GS I've ever seen. Worse than the Wonders of Elanthia fiasco.

I won the plat beta tonight. No questions need to be asked or answered, there are very few "skills" involved. Go with friends if you want to have fun, get a prize no matter what. I think there's a few kinks they're still working out but on the whole, it's a really long pennant chase where you also can die, but it's not a big deal if you do.
My only criticism--needs to be about half an hour shorter on the duration. Truthfully, I think a relatively small percentage of people are going to get prizes that are worth $30 or roughly 4m silvers. But the opportunity is there, and really--I've seldom played Dragonbones and NOT blew through 5-10m and came out ahead, so at least here you'll get a prize.

Did any of the blockers NOT have an AOE spell? I walked into rooms at least 10 times and got ewaved without the "pause." I'm not saying some people couldn't kill me or whatever, but all I was using was a "wave wand at @" macro and typing the first three letters of your name. A "stance d\rattack\r" macro is DEFINITELY faster.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly what Solomon did in DR (posted the entire hopper), so it's possible they'll do the same in GS.
Cool, thanks, I'm going, i think its nifty and one of the better things Solomon has done for GS was getting this imported.
Still, just my thoughts on the prizes. :)

No offense to Solomon, he means well. But honestly, I don't think gets mechanics that well.
Like, look at this event.
Picture the GMs around the planning table....
Solomon: "Okay guys, I've just explained the game to you. In addition, everyone will be given a random melee weapon so they can fight."
Sirina: "Oh, but you know, I've always been an advocate for bow users and you know most ranged weapons users are unable to fight with melee weapons."
Solomon: "Huh? Oh, right, I guess. Okay, we'll give them a bow and ammunition too, then we should have all weapon types and combat styles covered. Unless... can anyone think of any other combat type we're forgetting?"
::crickets::
Point being, they had obviously thought about the problem of players not training in melee weapons, and included bows, but, despite their brains being trained on that problem, they did not deduce the obvious plight of pures. When it was the first thing that popped into atleast mine, Rimalon's, and Ardwen's head. Probably others too who just didn't post.

Combat seems to matter a whole lot if the trick to winning is being protected from it by an old game mechanic they've forgotten about. I bet you that gets removed though.

The following are implemented or planned to be in place before our second beta run:
Contestants:
No contestants under level 2.
Arming room for plain gear versus random survival kit gear.
A way to heal yourself without being killed.
Tweaking the odds of what happens when you pull a rope, especially reducing the frequency of getting sent to the beginning.
Quadrupled the number of ropes in the maze (and lowered the number of silvers possible from each pull accordingly).
Enable some range of spell casting - TBD.
Blockers:
Inventory will be stripped, and blockers will also have an arming room for basic gear.
Limit range of spell casting - TBD.
Disable BESEECH verb for breaking a stun.
General:
Disable grouping for blockers and contestants.
Fix a bug with betting that didn't allow one contestant to be bet upon.
Enable YELLing so that observers, contestants, and blockers can communicate from anywhere within the maze or the observation rooms and generally heckle each other.
Fixed a bug that didn't return people to the right town when they left the arena. (This also fixes the fact that notes weren't properly set to the town you arrived from, which was coded, but not working as intended.)
SORT AUTO REVERSE done automatically after your gear is returned.
There are a few more things fixed or to be fixed, but they are mostly typos and GM functions.

A random melee weapon means nothing to a square if they get the wrong weapon type, so that really made little sense either. I'm no better off with a two handed sword than you are with one. No matter though, it looks like they've switched to a room where you can grab what you need.

Ya, its definitely a good change.
But I think they meant for you to trade with other runners for the weapon you needed, and many are trained in more than one weapon type of course.
But, I'm glad they see the light on this.
Though this blocker thing... they need to get that figured out. If I were a blocker and had access to all my spells, I would fuck shit up. Curse and nightmare everyone. Send my demon around finding people while I sit invisible then mass evil eye. See if I can bring an animate in with me for that matter (Wouldn't that be funny, I bet you I could, they usually forget to check such things). 708 to remove all limbs. Sorcerers aren't the best hunters, we aren't the best utility pures, the litany of problems with our profession is long and saddening. But we have the best CVC tools.
Then oh ya, the first thing I always do in some new special area, whip out the 740 book and see if GMs remembered to block it.

There is a beta run of Droughtman's Maze on Wednesday in Platinum at Noon. Still 4 spots open. Its free to Platinum members. If somebody wants to upgrade their Premium membership to Platinum and go to get an idea what to look forward to in the Prime run, I might be persuaded to give a $10 Gift Of Adventure so a Premium member can upgrade their membership to Platinum for a month, as long as they are willing to give me whatever prize they pull at the end of the event.
Get some advanced warning of what to expect during the Prime run for free.
Only available if you can make the Platinum beta run this Wednesday at Noon.
Since its a beta run, you must also be willing to provide feedback in the Prime Maze folder so they can adjust the event as necessary.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
Anyone know he "HILLMANM" is on the officials? We've got a giant douche alert. Fucker decided to reply to one of my posts here, on the officials.
I'm quoting, because I'm sure his douchey post is going to get removed.
You know, I think I finally get it.
I finally understand the huge outpouring of animosity from some people about this event.
It honestly completely baffled me how some people were bashing about how the event was setup. I totally couldn't understand it.
Then I happened to go look at those unofficial boards where it seems everyone is always really angry and negative.
I came across this response from someone over there in regards to this event:
>>If I were a blocker and had access to all my spells, I would <deleted> <deleted> up. Curse and nightmare everyone. Send my demon around finding people while I sit invisible then mass evil >>eye. See if I can bring an animate in with me for that matter (Wouldn't that be funny, I bet you I could, they usually forget to check such things). 708 to remove all limbs.
>>Then oh ya, the first thing I always do in some new special area, whip out the 740 book and see if GMs remembered to block it.
It honestly amazed me to read something like that. But then it all clicked for me. And why something like this will never be setup in a way to make a certain type of player happy.
I think to most GMs and most normal people - certainly how I look at it - the idea of a blocker is a good natured thing. It's like getting together with your friends and laughing while you do something stupid to them as they go running by. Maybe close a door right before they get to it so they bump into it. Then they or you open the door and they move on.
Maybe take a swing right as they run into a room - nothing catastrophic of course. Just something to make them go 'Holy Crap!!' in surprise. Heck, you'd probably even kill a couple of people under the right circumstances. Again, nothing over the top.
Or how with a couple of my friends I always tackle them the second I see them. I do it from defensive so I don't hurt them of course. And then every so rarely I might forget and then they get hurt. Everyone laughs because everyone knows the intent was not to actually hurt someone. That doesn't sound like the intent for this type of player though.
So yes, there can be death, but the intent is to add to the game... to add to the enjoyment of others.
Then I read something like that and realize that there are some people who genuinely do want to grief. Their idea of fun really is ruining everyone elses good time. I don't get that mindset. I never will. It really never even crossed my mind that some people would want to be a blocker so that they could act that way.
Now that I realize there are people who think that way, I get why they would be so insanely against how the roles were setup. They think everyone in there is going to be wanting to utterly ruin their fun and they will have no way to fight back and act pre-emptively.
It's why they refer to the blockers not as blockers but as griefers.
With all that being said, I have no suggestions on how to help alleviate those concerns since it goes directly to the mindset and the goals of the player. Just offering it up since maybe it's a bit of a realization for others.
Or maybe I'm just totally removed from the mindset of the players today!
B
This ass has repeatedly been trying to put shit into my mouth in this whole discussion. He must be one of my many enemies, but still. Has anyone ever seen a bigger douche move than to take a post from this forum and quote it over on the officials?
Seriously, he says he has me figured out and I'm a griefer and I get off on it. If this was true I would be playing shattered. Just because I lay out the many tools a sorcerer has for CVC doesn't mean I want to be a griefer, and want to be a blocker.
I wasn't even having the griefer discussion on the officials, but he apparently things Fallen and I are the same person. Fallen was having the griefer discussion. Now apparently we're both mean bloodthirsty sorcerers who want to be blockers so we can grief people.
Let us nevermind that my biggest argument thus far has been on the lack of defense of the runners, which, if I just wanted to grief people as a blocker, would be a good thing.
I've got 2 kids under 2 and rarely am able to play during typical primetime hours. I signed up for Sunday Noon rounds mostly because that is nap time. There is no way I am going to be a blocker, ever, and turn a 2 hour event into a 4 hour one. Naps are not that long.
Oh, and I've said multiple times I want everyone limited to just stun wands, which obviously is just a furtherance of my griefer need to kill kill kill.

Yeah but, don't you get off on killing other characters probably way more than the average player? I won't comment on his quoting from here on the other boards other than to say I'd never do that, but you have to admit that you love to kill other characters with Virilneus, and at times go out of your way to set up situations where you'll get the opportunity.
I'm not entirely sure that's griefing but it's pretty damn close. The shoe isn't really that far from fitting pretty comfortably right? What is the body count at anyway?
As a side note I do appreciate some of the things you do for the community, IE: your website which I use often, so it isn't like I think you're a complete asshat or something, just saying that you do get off on CvC.

I also want to point out that to a degree, I agree with what you said about enjoying killing characters in this situation. To me, for a blocker this is kind of like a free day where the normal rules don't apply, so knock yourself out.
A dead character just gets up right away back at the start anyway; no death's sting, stat loss, etc. Just up you go and start over.
No, I don't actually. I never seek out violence.
I'll only kill another character for attacking me or stealing for me. Period. And it doesn't happen often. Killed a couple people at EG for attacking me.

[Hubris's Tent]
This tent conforms to military standards for officer's tents throughout the empire and beyond. Overlapping oil-cloth flaps have grommetted closures and tie-back laces, load-bearing support poles are augmented with steel braces, and every visible seam is reinforced with double stitched leather panels. The ground is swept bare with a military attention to order. The various smells of a lifetime of past battles still linger in the air. You also see a tent flap.
Obvious exits: none

[Wehnimer's, Exterior]
The shore extends into a small, sandy promontory that juts into Darkstone Bay. The Landing's great river gate lies southeast of here, guarded on either side by tall twin towers. To the west, this path continues on between Wehnimer's wooden palisade and the sandy beaches along the bay. You also see a olive green tent, a long wooden dock, a small rabbit skeleton, a small wooden cart with a long gleaming wire on it and a shell-strewn path.
Obvious paths: west
>fold tent
Roundtime: 5 sec.
You methodically unhook the body of the olive green tent from the stakes and fold it back up into a neat bundle.

Maybe I'm just picky. I'm usually only interested in TWH :/
As far as betting goes as a spectator, you can have up to 7 wagers on contestants. All competitors start out at 10:1 odds of winning. The more bets placed on a person, the lower their odds become. You can bet more than once on the same person (For example...bet 100k at the start of the maze, then bet again if you see the same person find a golden key.)...but those bets count as 2 of your 7 max. Betting more than once on the same person doesn't combine the bets.
The house takes a 10% cut of the bets placed, so your winnings are determined by the amount bet minus the house cut.
You can make a lot more money betting than you can on pulling ropes in the maze.
-Richard.
p.s. My item from the initial run was a quiver with +5 ranged bonus. Belt worn.

Because I paid an assload for it and I want it to retain value. Self-interest and all. Kind of like the first people who bought shadowdeath weapons and then saw another billion of them come out. 75 item alchemy jars are super lame though.
It's worth noting again that several of us pointed out the jars as a problem item (and lame was the exact word I used in my feedback as well). There was a mini brain storming session between most of the plat players in run 2 and about a dozen GMs as far as what to do with them. This ranged from replacing them entirely to doing a set of 2 100 item jars instead. Suffice it to say I honestly doubt that the single 75 item jar will make it to prime runs.
Edit: Just wanted to add that the staff has been exceptionally responsive to feedback given by runners, blockers and spectators. Plat players, for the most part, have been taking their "beta tester responsibility" seriously and I think once all the kinks are worked out you guys are going to end up with an awesome event.

I think the cloak that was won was simply magnificent. While the bonuses may seem low, it is a clothing item. Same with the quiver and the picking gloves. FA and Survival, I'd be disappointed with sure. I suppose while not being overpowering, you have just added +6 to any THW in the game by wearing it. I've never once found an auction class item, held one or ever used one in combat. I wouldn't know that quality if it hit me in the face. I think too many people that are questioning the event have owned and used them. This is raising expectations to a potentially unreasonable level.
I'd pay a lot for that cloak or more for one that does the same for OHE/poles. I will admit, finding something truly extraordinary would be nice but it's not what I am expecting or paying $30 to get. I'd be pretty thrilled with a set of HCW 4x full plate/hauberk or those weapons that split. Hrm, do you guys think the splitting weapons are auction quality?

Well I don't think I overpaid, it's an awesome weapon. But I don't think it's lame to hope they don't release more. It's similar to buying an expensive piece of art in real life, you sure as hell hope the painter doesn't make 100 copies. Careful, the whole gemstone economy is built on exclusivity. Putting out many high ticket items so everyone can enjoy them would really screw with the economy.
I guess you're the lucky guy who has unlimited money and doesn't need to consider the financial implications of these things. I agree that if you bought a painting for 20 bucks your attitude would make sense but what if you bought one for 2 million?

Still, adding 5 or 10 more to a game that only has 500ish players is a fairly large percentage increase as far as supply goes.
You're also talking about a weapon that's radically different for each profession that wields it. You have to know the spell you imbed it with for it to flare. Fairly ineffective weapon for a warrior, so-so for rogues, great for semis (maybe not paladins as much as bards or rangers), damned good for a weapon swinging pure that bops things over the head with a big stick.

There's also the Monty Haul aspect of it. Releasing too many high end goods has adverse effects on game balance and player perspective on difficulty.
Countering the argument though. Look at the elemental bows. The numbers went from like 6(original) to 12(ranger) to 30+ (WD, EG, ect). You don't really see them everywhere. They're still highly desired and sought after so much so people will go to the grave with them. The prices however, went through a roller coaster. Originals were like 300m+, the height of WD saw some move for 90m, now they seem to be 200m.

I think I saw the chat mention that it did Arcane Decoy, raised Aura, and upped Mana Regen. Unless I'm mixing up items.
Hm. Unless it's self-charging, that's a touch boring. Oh, well.

If it's mage-rechargeable, it's essentially self-charging! 517 doesn't completely suck, remember! Only utterly.

My brother won one of them. Don't think he'd mind me posting it...
You see Dhairn the Heretic.
He appears to be a Dark Elf.
He is taller than average and appears to be very young. He has spiderweb-veined obsidian black eyes and roughly scaled ebon skin. He has a shaven head of stark white hair with an ankle-length braid dyed blood red at the tip.

The air around you briefly shimmers, and you feel as if something about you has changed.
You see Dhairn the Heretic.
He appears to be a Dark Elf.
He is taller than average and appears to be very young. He has violent flashes of red in his spiderweb-veined obsidian black eyes and tracings of brilliantly white spiderwebs glowing beneath glistening black, reptilian skin. He has only a fiery, crimson-lined braid for hair that drips ethereal liquid flames from the tip. Despite his youth, there is an ageless cast to his strong-featured face, and he carries himself with a distinctly imposing air. He is surrounded by a luminescence like a fading star that flares blindingly before succumbing to the darkness of the void. Each time the light pulses, he is overshadowed by the fleeting image of a striking wyrm.
>tap sigil
You trail your fingers across an inky black sigil, and the liquid flames that drip from your braid momentarily flare up, boiling like white-hot lava as they fall toward the earth.

I honestly don't know how that one shows the room. There are a few that seem to randomly pop up when he's running it. Either it is a command I don't know or it randomly goes off.
You get to create a message that fires off every few minutes to reinforce the fact that it's an illusion and not your actual appearance.
And they are pretty fucking sweet.

I just signed up for a second run solely because of those illusion charms. So fricking cool.
Ye, here is what I was told by the GM when I got the glamour.
(OOC) Illeya's player whispers to the group, "To get Kakoon into what it is -- these are basically temporary feature tattoos. They're possible, in terms of your characters, through glamours -- magic. And because of that, what you put for the temporary features can be a lot like illusion."
(OOC) Illeya's player whispers to the group, "Since they're features, they still have to fit right in the feature fields -- so when you look at someone, the main wording, like "She has ... eyes and .... skin. She has .... hair. And so on."
(OOC) Illeya's player whispers to the group, "But if you want a fog hanging around your feet while the illusion is up, that's possible. Your eyes can be red. Your hair can look like it's on fire."
(OOC) Kaikala's player whispers, "Traps fare push, pull, turn, and tap. And rub will toggle the illusion on and off. It'll stay up for 3 hours at a time, with a pulse every 10-15 minutes -- after 3 hours, it drops, so you just have to rub it to get it back up."
Hope that helps.

The charms are permanent, though, even though the illusion only lasts for up to 3 hrs, right? Oh, and are they transferable?

Here's my glamour tatt on my plat char.
You see Lexianne.
She appears to be a Human from Torre.
She is shorter than average and appears to be very young. She has velvety-lashed, chestnut brown eyes and delicately freckled tanned skin. She has glossy, copper red hair sun-kissed with strands of pale gold that spills down her back in loose tendrils. Her well-defined cheekbones are softened by a slight dimple on each cheek.
She has an inky black sigil on her wrist.
The sound of rushing waves fills your head, and you suddenly see the ocean all around you. As a curtain of sea foam washes over you, the illusion, in its entirety, falls away into a skirt of tiny bubbles that disappear at your feet.
You see Lexianne.
She appears to be a Human from Torre.
She is shorter than average and appears to be very young. She has a wild, silvery tempest silently raging in the depths of her thickly-lashed storm blue eyes and small amethyst scales visible just beneath the surface of her pale ivory skin. She has waist-length, lilac hair with blonde highlights that shine like spun gold. A tangled crown of red coral, glittering seaweed, and small starfish crests her mane of curls that has been woven throughout with slender ropes of lustrous pearls. Her well-defined features are softened by a slight dimple on each cheek, and a slender line of dark waves has been inked down her collarbone, its shape changing as though being pulled to-and-fro by an ocean's tides. An opalescent glow akin to moonlight surrounds her, lending a fey resplendence to her facade.
>tap sigil
You trail your finger across an inky black sigil, and a large clam shell appears at your feet. You step into it, and as it closes around you, you suddenly find yourself exactly as you were you were before it appeared.
Super girly, but I like it and it really fits her RP, although I've not used it much because I want it to be special when I do. I only wished I could get one for my V'tullian warrior Lurrah in prime. I'd love to use it to show her overtaken (and kill? people). Or change my priestess into her Arkati,

As long as the cloak holds VLA, I'd be pretty happy with it. 4 mil for an enhancive container doesn't seem to be a stretch. There simply are not many clothing options that boost stats.
Drakefang
02-28-2011, 07:17 PM
Also, if you turn that around, the blink weapon and the immolaters are more than a bargain...albeit odd weapon bases. At $7 per mil, these items should basically only be in the 4-4.5 mil range of value. Getting handed a 50mil item skews the average a lot. I've seen a lot of items that I'd pay 4 mil for released so far and happily at that.
6lbs, VLA, +2 mana recovery, +3 max mana. NOT max lightened or deepened.

Drakefang

Alright, that's not worth 4 mil. Maybe 2 mil. I was thinking it'd be something like +5 to mana recovery. Any idea how much it holds?
Is the blink cert for a weapon you own or you choose amongst weapon bases?

(1706) Flaming Aura
(1708) Mystic Impedance
(1711) Mystic Focus
(1712) Spirit Guard
(1720) Arcane Barrier
Not that special, in the end.

If it really is +25 to perception (and the other one that was released in prime previously was only +10 so I question it) I'd say its a pretty sweet item. Belt worn +25 enhancive.

>Why isn't the first run visible in the box office anymore?
Oversight, but it's fixed now. The information was just set to invisible a day early.
>What time does tonight's first run start?
7pm eastern (not 6)
>What will happen when Daylight Savings time ends/begins/whatever it does in the spring?
We will always go by real time not in-game time for box office events. Notice that the event start times all say "ET" not "EST" or "EDT" - whatever time it is on the US east coast on the day of your event will control the time we start the run.
