Video: Uncontacted Tribe in Brazilian Jungle

Video of an uncontacted tribe spotted in the Brazilian jungle has been released, bringing them to life in ways that photographs alone cannot.

The tribe, believed to be Panoa Indians, have been monitored from a distance by Brazil’s National Indian Foundation, a government agency charged with handling the nation’s indigenous communities. Many of the world’s 100 or so uncontacted tribes live in the Amazon.

Until 1987, it was government policy to contact such people. But contact is fraught with problems, especially disease; people who have stayed isolated from the mainstream world have stayed isolated from its pathogens, and have little immunity to our diseases. Brazilian government policy is now to watch from afar, and — at least in principle — to protect uncontacted tribes from intrusion.

Unfortunately, uncontacted tribes usually live in resource-rich areas threatened by logging, mining and other development. There’s often pressure on governments to turn a blind eye. Videos like this, released by tribal advocacy group Survival International and produced by the BBC’s Human Planet program, are legal proof that uncontacted tribes still exist, and deserve protection.

This blows my mind.

I'm pretty sure I saw a doc about this tribe (it was probably a different isolated tribe) about a year ago. Some PHDd science fools thought it would be a good idea to fly helicopters right over them. I might be wrong, but I think it ended with them wearing NIKE shirts.

Must be why the aliens are not contacting us... space alien pathogens would wipe us out.

We should go fuck em' up.

"Here's some blue jeans you fucking savages. Now put them on, and give us all your woodlands, metals, and precious gems."

Nah. They just found Inspire first when scanning the planet, and were like, "That place is full of Hurpdadurp! We don't need to catch that."

We should send someone into infiltrate this tribe, that way we can get all their resources without resorting to bloodshed.

I'm betting their only resources are going to be pics that can be added to the Topless thread.

And should that fail, there's always napalm and aerial bombardment.

This is BS. The shots show they have metal implements. Hence, they are not uncontacted. And then some group tried to argue the semantics of "uncontacted" vs "undiscovered."

Uncontacted by the modern world?

If they own metal objects, they have been contacted by the modern world, regardless of how that object was obtained (tribal trading, etc).

These guys are actually basically uncontacted: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentinelese_people

Daaaaaaaamn...

These guys are actually basically uncontacted: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentinelese_people

In 2006, Sentinelese archers killed two fishermen who were fishing illegally within range of the island, and drove off with a hail of arrows the helicopter that was sent to retrieve their bodies.[8] To this date, their bodies remain unrecovered, although the downdraught from the helicopter's rotors at the time exposed the two fishermen, who had been buried in shallow graves by the Sentinelese.

The history of contact is pretty poor with these type of people. The Sentinelese are lucky in a way because they are so aggressive and remote. If you look at the affects on contact on the similar Jarawa people it's pretty sad: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jarawa_people_%28Andaman_Islands%29

I don't know what it is about being contacted that makes people want to sit in on an el-camino and drink the beast but that seems to always be the outcome.

Maybe they discovered forging and smelting on their own and are a bronze age tribe. Or perhaps they were contacted a couple hundred years ago.

If they can forge me a perfect golvern dagger, I'm for contact.

Hopefully some pilot drops a bottle of Coca-cola out of a plane.

That or I'm going to have to break into a Hollywood warehouse and drag the Monolith through like 12 countries.

Look, I was playing Spore, if you shoot down the crop circle thingy (without getting too close to the primal species) I think it counts as a "good" action. Honestly, I don't know what the crop circle thingy from Spore: Galactic Adventures did.

What the fuck.
