What do you want blessing lores for?

Jace Solo

Don't waste TPs on lores until you're about 60-70 area. You need the points for physical skills or spells to keep you alive.

Also, get a tower shield and skip out on the dodge with 1610 you'll rarely get touched anyway.

Plate is your first goal
2x weapon/shield skills & PF, 1x spells, Cman is your second goal.
5 MoC as soon as points allow.
You'll need about 40 swim/climbing by 70.
1x perception doesn't hurt but at least 20 by 40 if you plan to do Darkstone.
Ambush at 1-2x is awesome as well if you're gonna be using a shield otherwise you'll plink stuff to death. Ambush leg, ambush head, dead.

In short. Worry about being a warrior for now. Train lores when you think to yourself, "My what should I put these extra TPs in?"

Not true. Any paladin worth his grain knows to get 25 ranks of religion lore ASAP.

While we're on it... what's a good idea for starting stats for a half-elf paladin? Not necessarily for end game, cause I know I can fixstats later for like a hojillion silver... but for say, 20 levels of growth to carry me through 60-70ish.

I disagree, for a caster pally maybe. My guy is more physical and it's unnecessary to get those for the goals he has which are all more survival oriented than what religion lore yields.

You might actually be the first person to tell me that it's an ASAP stead fast rule. I certainly haven't "needed" it. I consider 3x armor a "need".

Play with it...just do it....you know you wanna

I'm a purely physical build paladin too but I find those 25 ranks of lore to be completely invaluable. 85% chance to force kneel? Yes please.

1630 + Mstrike = win.

I'm not sure about 3x armor. I stopped at 90 armor ranks, for the time being MBP is good enough for me.

Do you plan on sticking with sword and shield?

Kylu
02-05-2011, 09:38 PM
I believe so, for some time at least.

In that case I would recommend picking up a sanctified shield and learn shield bash. Add spikes for good measure.

Kylu

I've just recently returned to GS and I'm not really familiar...

What is a sanctified shield, and how do you spike it?

Kylu
02-06-2011, 02:10 PM
And another question that might not be as stupid... when do I dabble into the 100s?

Androidpk

Sanctified shields, like weapons, are holy in the hands of a paladin. That means you can cast guiding light flares on them. You can usually add spikes to a piece of armor or shield at a merchant.

Combine those two things and use shield bash on something and it's pretty awesome.

My recommendation would be to just get the first 3 and then hold off on the rest until later. Most of those defense spells are readily available from spiritual casters in town so it's a good wave to save on points early on.

The training looks like exactly what I would be doing for sword and board, so I don't have many critiques to make. Maybe the only thing would be to consider picking up three minor spirit spells in the near future, before pushing up to 1635.

I would like to see climbing up to 14 when possible, if only because I enjoyed the hunting down in RR so much for that level 25-40 range. I stuck with 14 and 5 ranks until I had to make the climb into the eye (level 60 or whatever that was).

I have to agree with Ruty to mostly ignore lores until you can stop training in one of the other skills. You could grab a few ranks for that first step of boosts (3 blessing comes to mind as being nice). Later on when you want to slow down on spell ranks, or have gotten to a level of armor you like, then it would be a good time to add lore ranks in real numbers.

25 ranks of religion lore is easy to pick up and one of the best investments for TPs for a paladin.

Kylu
02-09-2011, 05:27 PM
I'll repost where I am currently when I get home, but I have already picked up 101-103, a sancted spiked shield, and 3 ranks of SBash.

I stopped at 10 ranks of climbing since I'm Sunfist and can blow a sigil of resolve to add extra ranks as necessary. I think 10+Sigil would be high enough for most things until I'm past 40, yeah?

Jace Solo
02-09-2011, 07:29 PM
Ya, sometimes that darkstone cliff can be tough to climb with 10+resolve but 15+ will get it done

I am still in my first 30 days and will be reallocating my stats as the 30 day mark closes in.

If you're going to be fully trained in shields then you're putting too many points into dodge. Hell even as a THW user I only train .5x in dodge and have 0 issues uphunting. You would be better off bringing PT up to 2x for redux and manuever defense.

Jace Solo
02-09-2011, 11:51 PM
What size is your shield. That makes a good about of difference.

I generally go with .75 at the lowest for dodge training.

Kylu

Well, I can reallocate my skills when I do my stats... so, open to all advice for the last one :-D

Jace Solo

Google GS4 stat cruncher.

It will let you optimize your stats for any level. If you plan on going to 100 then set it for that. It's only the first 30 levels that suck hard anyway.
If you don't think you'll go that far, set it for 60 and place them there. You can always get a fixstat later if you want.
