GM Naionna has stepped up and accepted the role as the guru for the sylvan race. I'm very excited for this, as Naionna has long held an interest and passion for the sylvan and will be a great asset to the race. She should be posting in the next day or two, so inundate her with your questions and congratulations!

Many thanks to Andraste for her time and expertise as sylvan guru and welcome to Naionna!

Good for Naionna! Good for the Sylvans, even.

Where's the 2011 Goals???

Aside from 340 I don't think anything mechanics wise is moving along well. Maybe monks, but who the hell knows? It's been all about world development recently.

Each race is SUPPOSED to have their own guru, some are far more active than most.

They're trying to locate a copy of 2004's goals.

Sounds oddly like the plans to build the free way that Arthur Dent wasn't a fan of.

Whats odd is DragonRealms posts mechanical updates seemingly on a daily basis.

Their message boards are flooded with activity from their GMs, gurus, SGMs, and heck, Solomon posts there everyday.

Blacksmithing, a nifty breakage system, premium updates, new areas, new creatures, all the time.

Odd is not the word that I, personally, would have used to describe this phenomenon. I suspect that I am not alone.

From what I have been told, DR has always had a more engaged playerbase and active GM support.

Don't they have less then half the player population?

No, I believe they actually have more people than us.

Hi all!

First, let me just say YAY! I'm very excited about taking on the sylvan race development and I can't wait to get started. I'd like to give you a bit of background on me so that you know what you've gotten yourself into (hehe). I have been on staff for a bit over 3 years, and in that time I have been a guru for a few areas. I'm familiar with the pressures and the time needed to make sure it is done correctly and I am looking forward to the hard work needed to do the race justice. I still play Gemstone, in both Platinum and Prime, and play sylvans regularly in both instances. Sylvans, in fact have always been a passion of mine.

When I was first hired for staff, my first goal was to create and release a sylvan cultural event and though it took me over a year to create and release, it ended up being the most fun I have had in a long time with a project. I also collaborated with former GM Andraste on the documentation released after the event. I enjoyed both of those endeavors very much and look forward to doing more of this in the future as the official Guru. I only hope that I can do the race the justice that I think it deserves.

Last, but not least, I plan to hold a meeting in the near future for those interested in the development of the sylvan race. I'd like to have it be an open house of sorts, where I meet the players who have a deep interest in sylvans, and you get to learn a bit more about my personality as well. I'd like you to ask questions, bring your thoughts and concerns, and of course any suggestions that you have for the sylvan race.

Thanks for taking the time to read this! I look forward to meeting with you soon!

I wish I could get into DR. It felt completely strange to play after so much GS that I was aware I was reading text. Not like in GS where I'm so used to it, it feels like your not even reading, just kinda like in The Matrix where they say they can't see the code.

DR is far more active right now, coding and other wise. Looks like they are in the middle of a major update to their systems right now-combat, magic, guild, etc. Population is higher than gemstone by miaybe 30-40%? give or take. Their boards look to be far more active also from the staff side. Whether thats from the current update or just in general I dont know. If I was describing the 2 products as kids, dragonrealms would be the favorite child, while gemstone would be the proverbial "red headed step child".

Possible I guess all gemstone coders are just work work working out of sight, but comparing the 2 products it's fairly obvious which one gets the majority of the attention at the moment.

Totally. When my boyfriend tried GS for a week, he said all the text scrolling made him dizzy and asked how I read it all so fast. I was like, "Text? Read? Wut?" I just sort of absorb it.

All I read in that that really caught my eye was "former GM Andraste."

What happened to her? And why didn't this get spread around?

"An unexpected break from GameMastering for personal reasons," as per e-mail, which, yeah, so vague as to be meaningless. (I was trying to redeem a contest prize from her when she went on leave. Total time spent corresponding with her about the issue: five months. Time it took to redeem the prize after she left from the GM who took on the task in her place: three days.)

I'd put it a different way entirely. Gemstone is like the older brother who was a mechanic, learned his trade, got to be the best mechanic in town, then bought his own shop.

When his younger brother needed to go to college the older brother paid for it, his shop started to suffer and lose money, then when his brother became a doctor he didn't repay his older brother.

Now his brother has shingles and worries about his shop failing and his mechanic work has slipped because he has to manage his business also.

Well, if that doesn't deserve positive rep I don't know what does.
