View Full Version : History-tracking/redirect malware issue.

Pretty sure it's in the registry for I.E.'s history. I didn't really care until I did an update and now it's redirecting me (e.g., when I punch in Today's Posts under Quick Links) and sending me to the same invalid thread. Same thing with other sites. Seems to save about 5 (random from what I can tell) non Index htmls for a particular site and then when browsing, sends me back to that particular html. Looks clever, because when using IE as an interface and adjusting various settings, I can delete it without seeing any new service running; then it just refreshes those History files about as quickly as my CPU is duped into rewriting them. Any way to format History regs while simultaneously installing legacy files? Probably isn't the source, but, I dunno, anyone have any idea?

IE? REALLLY? MalwareBytes would be a good place to start.

Might have to use IE. I have to use it for some of our intranet. Uh. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

History is being saved like three or four clicks away from the main site. Then, when trying to click on crap, I'm redirected to the saved site location. On this site, it's been sending me to an invalid thread whenever I try to use the Quick Links pulldown menu. On a news site, it's sending me to a 2007 article when I try and click on the Science section.

However, if it persists it may be as simple as one of those add-on things that get installed into control panel. Just go through the add/remove programs and clear out any weird stuff. Like porn dialers.

I do have to use IE for other computer(s) but this is completely optional on my current PC with this garbage. Just an issue of familiarity with IE. I'd probably want a log for a killer to get a better understanding as to whether or not I'm can-of-worming other browsers before installing them. Ideally, when I find malware/whatever that interferes enough with my computer to make me waste physical time because of its function, I'm interested in locating its component(s) so I can dissect them. And to (redesign them in order) to error-report hammer them.

Uh. Just do what I said and avoid using hammers on the computer itself. Static electricity, pebcak and last but not least hammers are known to cause damage to equipment.
Also uh.. yeah. Uninstall it. Go through add/remove programs. Remove all the shit that doesn't look like it should be there. You might need your windows disk for the reinstall IE if for instance you don't have internet and you have a magic interface for the tube series. Before rebooting, go to start/run. In the box type msconfig. Disable all that start up shit. Reboot. Now start enabling it until you run into the same problem. That there will be the fly in the ointment. Delete it with extreme predjudice.
