Hey I'm a returning player. I started long ago on AOL in 1996, continued to play through 1999. Came back for a few months in 2003, but now I'm trying it out again. Always loved GS but never had time to play. I have a few questions about items and things they do, is there an appropriate place I should be asking these questions? I didn't seem a forum dedicated to returning players or anything.

Alright thanks. I'll try here. I've been reading krakipedia and it's informed me of a lot of things mechanics wise. But I'm still carrying a few things that I have no idea what they do haha.

Here's the list.

a silvery blue potion
a virulent green potion
an opaque vultite falchion (if I remember this is 4x damage weight?)
an onyx-hilted invar claidhmore
a massive vultite greataxe
a golden orchid etched vultite wakizashi
a basket-hilted imflass longsword
a scattering of deathstone granules (I saw these cast death cloud but don't know how to activate?)

That's pretty much it. I'm pretty sure the weapons are old and before any of these treasure items I've been seeing lately. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

an onyx-hilted invar claidhmore - +2 claid, if it has an enchanters mark, it'll be worth a bit

(1) Standard treasure drops: Check krakiipedia.ORG
(2) Other non-unique items: Google site search of nilandia.com
(3) Unique items: Find a bard
(4) Unknown: All of the above

I made this toon to be self efficient and he pretty much is... I remember putting points in FA for skinning but it seems now that you need FA and survival... I guess they split what points I had the conversion. I'm wondering is skinning really worth it? Should I dump FA and the few survival points I have for more CM/MOC? Also am I going to be able to pick my own boxes at 2x with spells for the rest of my career?

Additionally, I experimented dumping points into TWC and 2HW... but I wasn't able to keep my spells and picking with the hide/ambush. Does that mitigate in the higher levels to make it a viable option?

Sorry for the ton of questions just wanting to see how viable I am right now.

Seriously, WRoss is the man. He can be abrasive at times but he really is a good kid. IM him for useful info. Every now and then, don't be surprised if he drags you outside the gates to rape you. It's just his way. We still love him, he's just capped so there's really nothing you can do about it.

Skinning can definitely be worthwhile, if you're hunting the right things. First Aid also cuts down on the RT for eating herbs, which can be really handy in the field where every second counts.

When I was 1x survival as a rogue at about level 50 in Pinefar, I got crap from skinning. (Was conscious about where I was damaging, kneeling, had a knife, and was a halfling with 100 Dex). Unless you're willing to go balls-deep in skinning skills, I'd only really fuss with it as a ranger or empath, personally.

With a sword-board ambush build, I wouldn't go more than 5 ranks or so of MOC just to offset a little FoF. MSTRIKE isn't going to be that useful unless you're using a TWC build. THW and (to a lesser extent) TWC builds are a bit expensive. Use the spreadsheet from tsoran.com and check for yourself if you can fit in what you want.

At around level 70 or so, 2x picking + 4 ranks MnE won't quite cut it in some areas. Until then, you should be able to pick all of your own stuff and above.
