Pat Tillman died yesterday in Afghanistan while on patrol as an Army Ranger. For those who don't know his story, he gave up a $3.6 million contract with the Cardinals to enlist into the Army in the hopes of being a Ranger with his younger brother.

He didn't do it for publicity, in fact he refused to speak to the press after he made the announcement.

I hope this puts some things into perspective for those piece of shit assholes who are suing the NFL for not being able to enter the draft without being 3 years removed from College.

There is more to life than money, and there are at least SOME good people left in the sports world. Not many people in this world, let alone sports, would leave that kind of money for that kind of risk. Bless him and his family.

I don't quite understand why you're so vehemently against guys wanting to get while the getting's good (i.e. before their bodies are destroyed) but then you and I rarely see eye to eye.

It could be because the NFL wants people to go to college? I don't know, that's my opinion. I'm glad the NFL is not like the NBA where people can come out of high school to play. Basically, you can be GREAT out of high school, but to get anywhere, you at least have to go to college and make a name for yourself. If you don't go to college, you can sit out of football for 3 years, then the NFL won't want you...

You knew what I meant- way to let the little things go. The NFL has a rule. It is a PRIVILEGE, not a RIGHT to play in the NFL. To be a Trooper in the state of NJ, you need to be 21, with 60 college credits or four years in the armed forces. It's their rule, who the fuck am I to challenge that? If I want to get in at 18, tough shit. Surely, the Troopers nor the NFL arbitrarily set up an age limit "for shits and giggles".

My point was, you have people who play sports for the sheer joy of it, and you have people who play sports for the money. The almighty dollar has more than ruined all professional sports for myself and many others. It's refreshing to see a man like Tillman that doesn't give a shit about the dollar signs.

A couple years ago, I played in a recreational softball league. I did not meet the age requirement. Nor was I compensated for my time. Just because someone pushes the age or any other chronological limits of an organization does not mean they're greedy "piece of shit assholes". For all I know, Clarett and that other guy are greedy POS assholes, it's not like I'm close personal friends of their's. I can see another motivation, though.

I think the reason the NFL wants people to go to college and "grow up" is because they don't want more Ryan Leaf's running around. Clarette is a peice of crap anyway, personally I hope he never makes it to the NFL....

Hell, I wish they'd make it that you had to graduate with a degree from college before you could play professional sports. I don't see the big difference between 18 and 22.

And for all those kids who are bitching about that...

Pat went to ASU and graduated in 3 and half years. I don't remember what he got his degree in though.
