Just curious here, and I'm guessing a lot of people won't want to answer, which is OK. What kind of medicine do you routinely take? It seems like every other commercial these days is for some kind of prescription med for a problem I didn't even know existed. It also seems that people rely too heavily on a pill for this, that, and the other thing... I've been guilty of it myself. So what do you take? I'll go first.
-Ambien (maybe twice weekly)
-OrthoCyclen (every day)
-Claritin (every day)
I try to avoid antibiotics when I get sick unless I really need them, and the few times I've needed something as as trong as Percocet or Vicodin I have to cut them in half if I don't want to be out for a full 14-15 hours.

I'm serverly anemic so I take perscription iron 3x a day. Monthly B-12 shots. I have a compromised digestive system (hence the anemia), so I have to drink protein drinks every day and take lots of vitimins.
I have damaged nerves in my shoulder and arm, so I'm addicted to pain pills. I take 3 a day, (down from 6). Hopefully in another month I'll be off them completely. They told me it would take at least a year for the nerves to heal completely and thats if I didn't aggravate it. Of course in my line of work I aggravate it daily, so its taking much longer. The good news is, it IS getting better.

I just take GNC Solotron multi-vitamins. I've taken about 3 months worth of Vioxx since August for my knee though. No regular pills though. And my pain reliever of choice is Aleve.

I don't really take medicine unless I'm sick or having really bad allergies. I take Claritin for those, usually.

A multi-vitamin and 1500 mg of Calcium, daily. Excedrin for aches and pains, when needed. That's it. Fortunately, my health is good so I don't require medication. :)

I take a few prescription meds:
Neo- Claritin for hay fever and skin allergies
Ponstan for my period pains
and I do take anti-biotics a lot because I get a lot of ear and UT infections.
I was taking Microgynon birth control pills for 5 years but I had to go into hosp a few months ago because of some superficial vein problems (blood clots of some sort) in my arm and I was told I cant take any birth control pills again. :(
I Also take Co-codamol with my ponstan cos they rarely take all the pain away. I take cranberry capsules to help prevent the UT infections and a Vit B complex to keep my hair/nails healthy etc.

I take nothing. Even if I'm sick. Unless it's a major illness. I'm of the firm belief that medicine only makes your immune system weaker.
Considering I've only been majorly sick once in my life, and that's cause we had our heat turned off in the middle of winter, I think I've done pretty well. I had bronchitis for 2 and a half weeks before I went to go see the campus nurse, too. And I only went, because finals were coming up.

My pills come in a liquid form I like to call alcohol. And then of course asprin to cure the occasional hangover.

I feel the same way. This started when I was around 13 or 14 and had a severe allergic reaction to some antibiotic my mom got me for a cold. That was the last time I took anything other than asprin.

Holycrap! TheE might be George Carlin!
I don't take anything unless I'm sick. When I'm sick, I'm a baby and will take damn near anything to feel better.
Edited to be on topic.

One calcium pill, two vitamin E pills, one "multi-vitamin" pill, and the only actual prescribed pill I take is Kariva.

I take lexapro because I have really bad anxiety disorder. I'm completely crazy without a medication for anxiety.
Also I have a weird disorder that makes me pass out frequently, so lexapro controls the anxiety and I'm less likely to pass out.
Also yohimbine because its suppose to raise your blood pressure and keep me from fainting as well, but I think it's a bunch of crap.
They don't know what to do with me, so they just keep sticking me on random medication. I won't turn it down though.

I totally empathize with you. I pinched a nerve in my shoulder in 2000. It was so incredibly painful that I was unable to work for a month. I got a couple of cortisone shots in it as well as some prescription pain killers that knocked me out for hours on end. Had the pain endured longer I probably would have become addicted as well. I am very glad you are getting better.

Flintstone's Complete
I got disillusioned with painkillers when my orthodontist muffed something up with my braces (almost ripped a tooth out, the fucker) and I was on the Tylenol (which they recommended) and it didn't do a damn thing.
Now if I could get some prescription stuff, maybe I'd have a different attitude.
Since Latrin mentioned teeth can anyone tell me why one of my molars is all of a sudden hyper sensitive to hot and cold? I have never had a problem with hot or cold hurting my teeth until about a week ago. I hate dentists but I guess I will be making an appointment :(:(

Mint - get a checkup on the molar, they might want to do x-rays or they might just conclude you have a minor inflammation in the gums and clean it with a high-pressure waterwash. Never know when it comes to teeth, and better safe than sorry.
As for meds - I had a tumor removed from my thyroid and have to take a maintenence synthroid dose daily for life now. Sometimes I forget to take it, but I don't notice any difference the next day <shrug>
Alieve for pain if I catch the headache/cramps in time, but if I don't I throw it up because the headache and cramps upset my stomach as well. Usually I'll just lay in bed and be miserable til the pain goes away a few hours later.
Twice a year I ask the doctor for a Percosette or Vicodin scrip that'll last me two weeks each, because the barometric pressure change in fall/winter and winter/summer usually grind my vertebrae something horrible and I can't move without narcotics. This year I was lucky though - the pain wasn't any worse than it always is (which I'm told is pretty bad for other people but I'm so used to it I kinda forget to notice it)
I live on Nyquil in the winter from the first day I get a cold til 3 months later when the bronchitis finally goes away. Again - I've been lucky - no bronchitis for the past 2 years, no colds either.
Other than those isolated situations and my thyroid meds, I treat everything else with aromatherapy and diet changes. From mood swings (cut out on dairy, wheat, eggs since I'm allergic), to mild headaches (lavender oil and peppermint oil) to minor congestion (eucalyptus oil and chewing raw garlic) to skin rashes or excema (tea tree oil and eat more carrots).
Oh and Miss X - if you're getting so many UT infections that you take antibiotics often, you should probably find out WHY you're getting them and treat the cause. Antibiotics will treat the symptom (the infection itself). If you wear pantyhose, stop wearing it. It's *one of the* primary causes of UTI in women. Learn to love stockings, knee-highs, and 100% cotton undies (not just cotton crotch - we're talking hip to leg cotton). And no thongs either! Silk works too and feels nice :)

Thanks for the advice, the reason I get them is because I hardly drink any fluids. I try but most of the time I forget and go a whole day with only 1 drink. Apparently this makes it easier for the bacteria to stick to the UT and cause infections. I take the cranberry help but I still get them a lot. My mum, aunt and grand mother are just the same, just one of those things I guess.

I'm like that too Miss X. Sometimes I'll go two days without a single glass of water, only 2 cups of coffee total to drink - which is a diuretic, so it would dehydrate me if ya think about it :)
I'm just lucky to have a kick-ass immune system. I very rarely get sick. Just menstrual cramps and severe back pain from 2 degenerated disks in my lower spine. I even stopped getting migraines finally after having one every month for over 15 years.

The only major illness I've ever had was appendicitis when I was 11. I was diagnosed with severe endometriosis when I was 15, and my doctor put me on the pill three weeks at a time to just cut out period cramps completely (because I would be curled on the floor in a ball just whimpering).

Just read up a bit on Klonopin and serotonin uptake, Stanley, dear. Of course, you will need to have some knowledge of physiology, but I'm sure you can get that from a Merck's Manual. :)
Here are a couple of tidbits to whet your insatiable quest for knowledge
"By increasing central nervous system relaxation, benzodiazepines can lead to lessened excitement and sensation. They also may decrease levels of testosterone, a hormone essential for sexual desire."
"Increased levels of serotonin are believed to interfere with sexual function, and benzodiazepines may reduce serotonin levels."
BUT...
"Unlike other benzodiazepines, clonazepam causes an increase in serotonin levels, and therefore, tends to lead to decreased sex drive and orgasm."

I dont usually take any medicine, but I did get my first prescription (anti biotics) a few months ago when I had strep throat. Not really fond of popping pills unless its unbearable.
holy chit, I think i'm gonna need a new fix
wait wait wait wait wait wait wait
It may increase seratonin, but i'm sure that it's incomparative to your classic SSRIs and MAOIs, I mean, them shits really effect sex-drive, not clonazopen or ativan.
And fer cryin' out loud! Ya ever read the side-effect warnings for something, Um, I dunno, TYLENOL, in the PDR? You'd think the shit was fucking hemlock.

I am only perscribed extra strength tagamet (damn bleeding ulcers before i am 30!) and claritin (allergies) But.... I enjoy on a regular basis, hydrocodone, soma, vicadin, oxycontin and the occasional percoset and demoral, pain pills and muscle relaxors are my weakness

Haha you poor, poor sick people.
The last time I can remember being sick.. like SICK was when I got the Flu my freshman year of High School. Since then, I may have had some allergies, a slight fever here or there in the winter, but I never ever ever get sick. I can't even remember the last time I've thrown up. It has to have been at least 6 years.
I take no pills, though I should probably start popping vitamins.

I take a multivitamin that is about 7 separate pills.
I take 3 diet pills a day, and you better believe those bad boys have Ephedra.
I take Motrin for my bad ankle 800MGs a day
Excedrine for any headaches
Claritin for any allergies
Dyphenhidromene(sp) HCL 100MGs whenever I cant sleep.
