Okay, so it's been a long time since I played an ambusher, and it seems that I get found alot more often then I the last time I played a rogue ambusher. so the question is:

What modifies the hide/stalking check when creatures search for you?

Do Dex/Agility affect it at all or are there other stats that are considered now?

Thanks

What are you hunting right now?

In my experience, if you're uphunting a few levels (7+), that would be a factor. Also, certain creatures are very perceptive, and will pull you out of hiding a lot.

Hope that helps.

Well at 18 I'm hunting Wood Wights and Rotting Woodsmen which are 20 and 23. It seems that the wights are the ones that find me alot though. So maybe they are just extremely perceptive. I'll check out that krackii page. Thanks!

In general, undead are pretty hard to hide from.

To my knowledge there's not a ton of stats that affect how well you hide. What goes into the formulas hasn't been made very clear. It was like pulling teeth last year to find out that there were racial modifiers to hiding--I think they're up on krakii. As I remember it sylvans and forest gnomes get bonuses in wooded areas. Humans get bonuses when the room they're in has the "in town" tag on it. There might be some more.

Dacatchman is right about undead--they're very perceptive, as are four-legged creatures or really anything that is an "animal." Natural room lighting conditions are also a factor.

Yeah, you're not going to be able to stay hidden from those guys until after you can't get experience from them anymore. If you want to hunt undead in that range, go for the zombies in Potter's field near the Landing. You'll have plenty of time between searches to hide, smash, and stance back up, and there aren't any faster or casting critters there to mess you up.

Also, if you're a rogue, bone up on your sweep. It's great for keeping perceptive critters in RT while you hide.

Or learn dirtkick which can be used from defensive stance just as well as offensive.

This won't let you stay hidden against perceptive undead.

I know some people swear by dirtkick and write 120-270 posts per year (Grendeg) from 2006-2009 touting its efficacy... but that shit's stupid, and there are way cooler Rogue CMANs.

As to dirtkick, I have no idea if it's effective in the least, but whenever an enemy is pissing me off I feel a lot better after kicking dirt in its face.

Thanks everyone for the help. To be honest, it's the Wights that piss me off, can only stay hidden from them about 20% of the time. The woodsmen only find me about 10-15% of the time. Smastery helps a good bit it seems, I'll try to keep in mind all the recommendations and work on those guild skills.

You will never be able to hide from most undead and not be sniffed. That's just a fact of the game. Lots of relatively young undead can find level 100 triple trained hiding rogues.
